  1. Tournament golf is hard, yes your head is your strongest ally to score well, having the shots and not executing them is the challenge

  2. You really only botched two holes — 7 and 10. Without those, you're basically Top 20, which is darn good for someone doing his 1st pre-qualifier. Keep it up. You can get there bro!

  3. Thanks for sharing you experience. I learned a lot about your character in this video. NOW go shoot a 69 tomorrow!!!

  4. Man, this sounds all too familiar. I think it gets better the more you do it so keep your head down and keep grindin!

  5. Matt, Matt, Matt. You are out of your league. You are a golf connoisseur. Leave the wine or whiskey connoisseur duties to someone who know what he's doing — Wlodkowski. 😂

  6. I was playing in a qualifying tournament one year for the Georgia State Amateur. Lots of good players for only a few spots at a course near Atlanta. I was playing well. On a par 3 I lagged a long putt up close to the hole and one of the guys in my group said “ That’s good pick it up”. I’m not sure what happened but I literally zoned out. I picked the ball up. The penalty kept me out of the state tournament by one shot. Oddly enough another player withdrew the week before the big event and I got in as an alternate.

  7. It's insane how much our golf game is linked to our mental game. I've always said golf is 10% skill, 80% mental and 10% luck.

  8. I call it the golfers paradox. You have to try as hard as you can and focus at your highest level all while not giving a crap about the results in order to play your best golf.

  9. Matt, come on dude. Don't read off the flavor notes f

Matt, dude. Don't just read off the notes from The distillery.

    Just report what you sense.

  10. detach? No. You connect with the moment at hand and have fun like a 12 year old, knowing Mom will have dinner ready when the game is over.

  11. Play regularly a pinball machine, and release your frustrations on it, customize your own surface with the wife's picture, so you can slam the flippers and make the metal ball go where you want it to. Every little frustration released is less that can creep up on you. Good Luck next time. This time you're a Tuna named Charlie- sorry Charlie. You let the sound of the can closing interrupt your focus.

  12. Another good book is Mind Under Par. When i played tournament golf. My routine was the same on every shot. No Matter What. I would focus on the flight of the ball and not my swing then do my best to "execute" the shot. One other thing i did was. After my tee shot. I would think of funny movies or funny comedians. Anything to keep my mind active and in a good spot. Once I got to 30 feet from my ball. I would take a DEEP Breath, relaxing my shoulders, body and mind. Then I would start taking in the information. The yardage, the lie, the wind. Any obstacles that I need to maybe carry. Note that I did not say "Hazards" Hazard is a negative thought. Once i hit the shot. It was over. on to happy thoughts no matter what. Always look forward to the creativity of the next shot once your there. When you thought it was over. You played really good golf. It is not always about the golf. The inner peace and enjoyment you feel when you play. Also. Stay out of your way. Never question your abilities. I hope you red this and can get something out of this. One more thing. Can we get some more short game content please. Thank You. Jim H.

  13. Mental strategy sentences written in your notebook for each hole. One minute of quiet study, being reminded by your own words, remembering the way you said them, and your head is clear, and ready for the next shot. You've imagined the perfect round, now talk yourself through one, no distractions, no doubt. Write down every thought you're going to think for every hole and think them as you play them.

  14. You need to give it away until you can play one shot at a time and let the score look after itself. Your quote sums it up ‘from there I just hit myself…’

  15. What do I know of Golf? Who was Phil Mickelson asking on Jordan Spieth's YTC April 2021 what Tom Brady had to do with Jordan not winning? The very next month Phil is being asked about Tom Brady in a Major Winning press conference.

  16. Write a short story to yourself on how you win your 1st Golf Championship. You will write that story again before every shot you take.

  17. I know Tom Brady, his wife has made sure to meet me twice after I make the REF blow the whistle "on himself" in Tom's face in the opening drive of the 2nd half in Buffalo November 23, 2015 near midfield on the play following Brady's cheating "QUICK COUNT" play. In my entire life, I have only had one NFL JERSEY in my closet- #10 Brady's nemesis, Eli. I own Tom Brady, and Phil, and Jordan. Tom Brady's wife paraded herself before me in my Hannaford Market behind Tom's back. It was Phil telling Tom what I was telling Jordan about Gisele, that woke Tom up to who his wife was, is, Serleena of MIB-2, the why of God, an avatar shell being projected by an invisible 500 lb. million year old tardigrade, and I have been 13 inches from its teeth lined end from swallowing my face, and my face is still here, Like Animal after Godzilla put its foot down, so, the key to not getting swallowed by life you're not measuring to be there, is to measure more space in front of your face. You think all life lives where you measure it can live, and that is retarded. How many senses was your body born with? How many does it have now? What do you call zero growth in sense since birth? Sounds like a dormant pupa stage, to me.

  18. The guys making through the Monday are shooting 65 or better very regularly on weekend golf while your shooting a couple under on your good days on familiar courses set up very easy. There tournament golf moves to -2 to -5 your tournament golf moves to +3 to +7 and that gap widens the harder the course becomes and the more pressure involved.

I’ve played golf with Ken duke steve Elkington @ (60 years old) and they are playing a different game than you my friend. Idc how many books you read they are flat out more skilled. They have better impact positions better speed control better misses they are just better in every aspect. I do think if your playing your best a have a few good breaks u could possibly get through a smaller pre qualifier. An actual Monday prob no chance.

Not saying it won’t make for good content for your viewers etc etc and great learning and lots of fun but your not at that level currently.

  19. Love your channel, ever hear of Dr. Bob Rotella? Golf is not a game of perfect. Great read. Mental coach to some great ones…

  20. The mental side is something I don't focus on nearly enough, I was close to breaking 80 recently and experienced a melt down on the 15the hole which dashed my chances, it was unfortunate because it is a relatively easy hole. Gonna check out the Jim Murphy book. Hang in there Matt and get back out on another qualifier!

  21. I appreciate the insights on the game. But you are getting sponsored and you can’t do your sponsor better than that. Why would I try a product that you have to read what their website says and then the next one you say taste like high school?

  22. Great stuff! I've been working on this recently too surprising how much better you come back and bounce back after a bad hole or shot. If you can detach yourself from the bad ones and let it go

  23. Your game sound just like mine. I can shoot 68 or sometimes 78. If I create a game plan of golf course management, I can usually get around a course without any huge numbers on the card. Just keep plugging along, and thank you for sharing your experience.

  24. Love this series of videos! Keep going, stumble, get up, keep going! You’re attempting what we’ve all fantasized about!
