Matt and Dom break down the likelihood that U.S. stalwarts like Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, and more stars will be picked for Captain Zach Johnson’s 2023 Ryder Cup Team. Matt also gives a fascinating history lesson on the Ryder Cup.
It seems like golf's eco-system is really an ego-system. The PGA is the premier golf organization in the world and doesn't want to share the spotlight with anyone else. Empires hate competition.
I think you are right; the fans don't care, but the media wants to make this into a big deal… I like the LiV tour, I like the team format and the guys in Liv seem like they are enjoying life more.
At this point its clear as day if someone from Liv makes top 6 points they are going to be on the US Ryder Cup or Euro team. And it’s looking very likely someone someone from Liv will get picked.
The owgr is taking too long already. It’s time to do something with the points.
The majors are making it clear: they want the Kiv guys in their events using the team events.
Yes. The Ryder cup is an international team competition. Clearly. A pga tour team is not as interesting to most people. If a team loses they can say they didn’t have this guy or that guy. The Ryder cup needs to be as open as the opens.
Phil is that senior player whom should be on the team. He should have been on the US team after kiawah.
There should DEFINITELY be some sort of Senior Tour points awarded. The Senior Tour today has many players that, if not playing the Senior Tour, would be playing on other tours and securing positions and points through those Tours. Today's 50+yo players are choosing the Senior Tour for the money, and the relaxed pace and nature of the Tour itself. They are not choosing the Senior Tour because it is the only option available to them. Korn Ferry guys should be thanking the stars for this fact, or they would be losing to their fathers. That's just a fact. The technology of today's equipment has created an enormous number of older players whose short game is capable of counteracting the inevitable loss of distance that accompanies aging. Yes, the longer hitting youngsters are gonna hit it past them, however the great majority of shots still occur from 120 yds and in.
As a golf fan I just want to see the best players competing against each other in as many tournaments as possible. There’s circa 20+ professional golf tours globally and none of them have been penalised like LIV. It’s all about the big wigs at the PGA worried they’ll have to pay more players decent money and get a few less $millions in their dividends. LIV has been the shake up the PGA board needed and this sport we all love will be better for it.
what sort of event doesn't have the best possible players playing its insult to the history of the event and the public and sponsors putting up the cash to have these events if world ranking points are now biased to one tour are they now becoming not relevant
Problem with LIV is the players made their choice to leave the PGA and now they want back in. This isn't a problem that can be solved by putting someone's picture on a beer can.
When the US beat Euro team this year, by a thrashing, all eyes should be on Rory and other Euro figures who campaigned against LIV players….Euro team have not lost in Europe for a very long time
Even if they are deemed eligible, which seems unlikely, I don't think Johnson would select any of the LIV golfers. We have more than enough quality guys without them.
We all saw what happened in the Presidents Cup with the Internationals. No Cam, No Neiman, No Abe Ancer, No Louie, + other possibles was a disaster viewing wise. This could also be the case with the Ryder Cup…..yes USA is very strong with only PGA tour players….But Reed, Dustin, Brooksy…not even in consideration..OMG. European team….Well you have a sacked captain in Henrik….undermined by Donald…with the possibility of G Mac, Westwood….being co captains. Then Sergio, Casey, Pieters, Poults, Weissberger…..not even considered….this is really silly to be honest by all concerned.
Just like the majors if the Ryder Cup doesn’t include all the greatest players I won’t watch it. Ryder Cup light would be an insult to best players in the world and be about letting the PGA Tour make this about politics and not being the great event it should be
The more questions you ask, the sillier the PGA Tour looks. The fight is at the top between the commissioners – put them in a bar and let them fight it out. The Ryder Cup is a great opportunity for healing, If a LIV golfer comes close to qualifying, e.g. Koepka, and is not picked, @ZachJohnson won't be a true captain, he'll just be a mouthpiece, and his reputation for honesty and integrity will take a huge hit. And, after the Masters, who would not want to see Phil and Jordan in a 4-ball match? The 4-somes are not for Phil now – too wild off the tee (I'm sure the rough will be high like before). I'd like to see some exceptions for LIV golfers, maybe we could start with the top 3 not already qualified like @TheOpen does for different events on the PGA Tour and other events around the world.
I most certainly hope that Zach Johnson and Luke Donald respect the sport of golf enough to keep the circus members from participating in a long-standing, supremely respectable event. Yes, no doubt that some of the LIV circus members can still play golf at a high level, BUT there's more to the big picture than this year's Ryder Cup event. A line has been drawn and as the circus departs from the PGA Tour the gulf of talent and/or professionalism will also separate. What will this look like in 2027? Do you force inclusion of 2-3 circus tour members based on 2023 precedent? I say the line is drawn–you want to participate then stick to the PGA Tour. If you want a big pay check, join the circus. A lot of people like the circus. A lot of people like the WWE. A lot of people might some day like LIV. But this is golf–not the circus! There are a lot of new stars rising on the PGA Tour and this is their opportunity–not those that park Brinks trucks next to their collection of sports cars . Maybe LIV can create their own version of the Ryder Cup–oh, wait, they already did (e.g., Hairy Backs versus Ponytails, or whatever they're teams are called). End this discussion now!
Wake up guys. The media is under pressure from Monahan. Then they rigged the world rankings even further. The fans want the best players. No LIV, no best team.

Good listen.
Hi Matt All these players have made many cuts to make the tour!!!
For me, I don’t want any American LIV player even considered for the Ryder Cup.
If they don’t pick the best players regardless of which tour they play — it’s a meaningless Ryder cup
I won’t be watching and many others with me

Just Look at Adelaide’s LIV tournament, fans don’t care who’s tour it is, why have the worlds best golfers locked in America?

PGAT players should be thanking LIV
Your gonna love those PXG,s. Had mine for about a year, love them.
Even Tiger's simulator league will be fun
Dom has finally realized that LIV is not evil..its just another tour
Brooks would kill Homa….has Homa ever contended in a major?
Simple answer is yes liv players should if selected should be aloud to play. Fan's want to see the best players compete.

There is a level of comradery amongst players that I think a at large LIV pic would be difficult to achieve.

Id luv to see both Ryder Cup captains say “screw this shit “and pick the LIV guys who they know should be selected
