I take a look at the modern day golf blade iron and in particular the new Srixon Z Forged II Iron and putting it up against the Srixon ZX7 MKII Iron to see what the difference is in looks and performance. These two golf clubs are forged, look great, feel good but which would you go for?

  1. Beautiful clubs. I wish Srixon would move the look of the ZX7 more toward the blade in terms of top line. Would clean them up ever so slightly and make an already great looking club even better.

  2. I've only ever played blades. Ironically I hit blades better than your 'normal' irons. I currently play with Piranha v-blades.

  3. I play MacGregor Muirfield 20th Edition from 1988 2-PW
Modern clubs don’t feel the same, they feel vague in comparison to older forged blades

  4. Been using Z-FORGED for 4 years now …. already ordered these of course…. is just magically stable in all aspects…. not over drawing or fading…. and loss of distance off centered hits is not that much actually … feel with this hits are not all that bad as one might think either…. and THE LOOKS MAN …. ;)))))

  5. The Z Forged even for a 33 degree 7 iron had really low spin numbers, like suprising low spin numbers, the zx7 has also

  6. Hogan Icon 7-pw. I'm not really a good enough ball striker for them, but I still love playing with them because if the pure feel when I do have a pure hit. I do think the help keep my swing more fundamentally sound and from my swing getting too sloppy.

  7. Played mizzy 221 for the last while found them to be a little boreing. Switched to the new King CB/MB and the blades are so pure

  8. What kind of balls are you using? 4500 spin for a 7 iron is scary low no matter how high you hit it.

  9. Horrendous at address (0:58). Hardly a blade with that much offset and topline seen many cavities that look much more bladish at address. Perfection is the 620 mb or my personal favorite (just got a set 4-9) the new cobra blades. They are amazing. Topline bigger than 620 but its beveled and looks smaller than it is and zero offset. Look absolutely majestical at address

  10. I'm playing the potentially nice combo set you mentioned. 6-P Z-Forged II, 4-5 ZX7 MK II. And it's delightful. Blades are definitely not dead. They're alive and well and offering more than they ever have with the Z Forged II. Nothing like the punishers of the past or even some peers now. ❤ them!!

  11. I wanted blades. Found a nice set of Taylormade Tp MB traditionally lofted.

Hated them until I calmed down. Great clubs.

  12. I play Miura blades 7-9 from June-Sept. Miura CB 501 4-6. I start season annually around May 1, as we live in heavy snow area where my course does not open until then. I start season w/501’s 4-9, once I’ve got my swing back and have played 7-10 rounds, I swap in the blades.

The CB501 is not a pure perimeter weight cavity and has a quite thin top line, thinner than Z-forged, it has same offset as Miura blades. As above average ball striker, I could play the CB’s year round, I just prefer the feel of pure blade in my scoring clubs. In terms of consistency, they are very similar. I never have the unexplainable jumpers. The only difference in performance I notice is the blades hold our extremely fast greens just a bit better than the CB’s.

I was visiting my son in January, he lives in Houston thus plays year round. He wanted to play my CB’s so I played his Mizuno 225’s. The feel and sound was more ‘clicky’. I REALLY struggled with distance and gapping. I think he said 7-iron was 31*, mine are 36*. I found myself hitting 7-iron, normally a 165-168 yd club, 180-185. Once I realized the distances, I still struggled on a couple approaches holding greens.

I had one approach from a perfect fairway lie 182 to front, 186 to pin which was on elevated section with green sloping away on backside. I hit smooth 7 cut looking to land front of green and stop below hole. I flew entire green to buried lie in bunker 🤦‍♂️. We paced it from hole that it carried at least 193 😳, from a cut 7. I guess I understand the oe’s jacking lofts and engineering for distance but if I’m pulling a 7-iron or shorter, I’m looking at a birdie opportunity. When I flush that shot, I must know the exact carry within +- 3 yds and that it will spin enough to hold most greens on 2nd hop. That round was 4 months ago and I still haven’t forgotten that shot 🤣🤣.

I cannot see a time where some of these ‘players-distance’ or whatever they are calling the hollowbody clubs like 225, would find its way into my bag. I’d rather play a full bag of blades, knowing if a bad shot occurs I’m the one to blame, than a club that may be forgiving on a mishit but I have no confidence I can execute the required shot w/any consistency, even if I put a really good move in it.

  13. I just tested these and saw similar results – similar dispersion and distance, with the ZX7 flying slightly higher, though I also got more spin out of the ZX7. The Z Forged was quite forgiving for a muscle back and I would have happily gamed it if it wasn't for the ZX7 having the better flight. I will be getting a ZX7 set once I can sell my T100s.

  14. Play the Ben Hogan Ft. Worth 15 blades 5-GW. Very punishing on mishits and I shouldn't be playing them, but I love the look and it forces me to practice more.

  15. Playing mizuno 221 pw-7i and 223 6-4i the blades are forgiving and have made me far more consistent in distance and ball flight. On mishits I may see 5-7 yds shorter but I would rather have that than 25yds further with game improvement irons. Pair that with the beautiful look of them and I could not be happier.

  16. I play Mizuno MP-60 5-P or my Hogan Ft Worth 15 hi, practice with Hogan Radials

Grow up with Wilson Staff fluid feel late 60’s or early 70’s version.

Golf is more fun playing with a knife 😅😂😂

  17. I play pxg gen 3 t irons. Haven’t played a blade in years. Too many companies now make a nice top line and forgiveness blade style iron. No need for a traditional blade anymore. IMO

  18. Learned with blades and played with them for years. Have switched to Players irons now (Wilson D9 Forged) and love playing with them.

  19. Nice review. Funny seeing two reviews recently of the same irons with vastly different perspectives. About a week ago Mark Crossfield also reviewed the Z-Forged Mk II blades and also found they were extraordinarily consistent (https://youtu.be/BzHJpCJlmLY?t=401) and yet he basically trashed them as not even worth considering relative to the ZX# lineup, which demonstrated significantly less consistent dispersion. Appreciate that you spoke to the pros, cons and similarities of each iron in equal measure and followed the data to the conclusion that if a player has a consistent swing, they could benefit from a very reliable iron game with the blades.

  20. If I was at the peak of my powers I would have the z forged in the bag without question but now a lot older and only playing once a week so give me the forgiveness all day long! Got the Srixon z585's in the bag and very happy with them.

  21. Got fitted for the Wilson Staff model Blades after seeing your review for them a few months ago. Wish I started playing them when they were first released. The most underrated golf clubs on the market !

  22. I bought the previous model ZX Forged and was amazed at how easy they are to hit. I don't think anybody should be afraid of Srixon's blades.

  23. Playing the mizuno mp5 irons, sit between a blade & players cb. I don't think I will change from these they do everything I want them to do, I tend to club up & play the back of the green yardage so mishits still get me to the front edge.

  24. More than just the club comparison, I enjoyed and visually learned from your fluid and well controlled repeated almost identical swings. Thanks for showing several swings in rapid repetition. Hope I can emulate you with lots of practice. Would you consider giving YouTube lessons?

  25. Mizzy mp20s,had the 32’s for years…nice thing about blades is the feedback, you can tell if you hit it a groove low,but there so consistent

  26. I agree. Played with the ZF II yesterday for the first time. Good feedback on poor strikes but beautiful feeling on good ones. ❤

  27. I play KM-700 Miura and love the feedback, look, feel and sound. They are forgiving if you hit them on the sheet spot😊. I am willing to sacrifice forgiveness in favor of learning how to be a better sweet spot hitter. If you put in the work, you will be rewarded. 6:41

  28. No they are not dead. I play blades. I am a consistent ball striker and have been playing golf since I can walk. I prefer the feedback of blades. It makes me focus.

  29. Cavity backs and game improvement irons have helped so much that the average handicap hasn’t changed in 30 years. Pure marketing from the OEM’s so they can sell you more clubs.
