Burnley failed clear resulting fixed ball, leaving Jamal Lowe to attack from the left and Martin take a six-yard header and seal 2-1 win. After a run of just two points from the previous 21 points available, Gareth Ainsworth’s side couldn’t be expected to worry a team that had secured promotion earlier this month. But Rangers stunned Turf Moor in the 58th minute, taking lead with captain Sam Field, a reward for their determined show under intense pressure. The goal owed a lot to the poor defense of the home team, who couldn’t handle a routine long throw from Ethan Laird. Allowing ball to bounce, Burnley was penalized when Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ half-space was met by the unmarked Field, who scored with an impressive volley from just inside field. Burnley thought they had at least saved a point after 76 minutes, when Manuel Benson picked up a pass from right, cut field and curled unstoppably into far corner of visitors’ goal. But looking for three points they needed to secure the Championship title, Burnley had to bury QPR under halftime goal avalanche. Kompany’s team missed three spectacular chances in a matter of seconds with a phenomenal event in the ninth minute. Benson smashed Anass Zaroury’s halfway up post, Ashley Barnes’ shot from rebound was blocked by goalkeeper, and Benson shot again only for Rob Dickie to clear line. The same Rangers defender came off the line from an Ian Maatsen shot just six minutes later. And that set the tone for numerous Burnley chances as Barnes strayed away from a good opening and Harwood-Bellis lost six yards while linking with the Josh Brownhill cross. The resistance in first half was impressive for visiting team, which has only won one win in their last 20 league games, but shock of being behind clearly bothered hosts. Harwood-Bellis was shown a yellow card for a foul on Sinclair Armstrong as substitute left pitch, after QPR bench called for kickout. Kompany tried to find a way back using the bench, but substitute Jay Rodriguez followed the example of his teammates, going straight to Seny Dieng from Benson’s mid 73rd minute.
