How the fuck is the match tied of you get 3 TDs and the other guy keeps getting escapes?
Got is this terrible if it passes.
The ankle ride, maybe working to turn? Those should be stalling, but the rest of this is just…terrible.
I'm gonna miss yelling 2
Wow. These are big changes.
What about a minimum number of matches rule to be able to wrestle at the NCAA tournament?! It should be twenty matches!
The only rule they need is the pushout rule
With these new rules, do you think Penn State will win? Max Dean shoots as fast as you can reload a revolutionary musket (pretty sure I’m quoting Shane Sparks) Think about it
I think a reversal needs to be 3 then. Imagine taking someone down, they get an immediate reversal, and then you stand up. Now you're winning 4-2? A reversal is simply a takedown from the bottom position. It deserves 3 as well.
Whaaaaatttt??? So sick
Too many wrestlers are ok with being up by 1 point, he’s even said it Jacob Warner off the top of my head is ok with being up by 1 point, I think college wrestling has become boring because coaches are saving there wrestlers until the end of the season, besides the sporadic dual here and there are so many wrestlers ranked in the top that will never meet each other until the finals which is absolutely mind blowing to me? Example fix this year never wrestled aruajo or McGee or rby, how in the world does this even make sense from a coaching perspective, also I think the toughest tournament Iowa wrestled was the army salute classic something like that? Is that a joke?
Going to just take down wrestling. People that don’t understand the sport don’t will like the changes people that understand what it takes to ride and top wrestle will scratch there heads and ask wtf
In 79-80 NAIA
decision(win by 1-7 pts)=3 team points
major decision(win by 8-10 pts)=4 team points
superior decision(win by 12-14 pts)=5 team points
tech fall(15 point differential)=6 team points
fall=6 team points
Still had riding time
TONS of action due to the scoring system.
Keep it folkstyle or go freestyle. I don't care either way but don't change the rules. The riding and stalling on top is ridiculous. It doesn't have to change drastically just go back to the rules.
Really like all the proposed changes except the 3 point takedown. Takedowns are already twice as valuable as an escape. Awarding 3 points has the effect of reducing the value of being able to prevent your opponent from escaping. It's also less interesting to watch a takedown and immediately the opponent is set free with no wrestling on the mat, which it will encourage, especially where it's not such a gamble (2 points v 1 point) to choose that strategy. A rule change I'd like to see would be to call stalling much more quickly. Pet peeve is watching a "better" wrestler get ahead, then spend tons of time wrestling to a standoff and obviously not trying to score. It'd be a much better wrestling match if that kind of stalling is called very quickly (as quickly as in freestyle to put a wrestler on the clock). Sometimes when the "better" wrestler keeps wrestling, you never know what will happen (ask Real Woods how much one move can cost the favorite).
i am new to watching wrestling , and actually got interested in watching it because of MMA for some reason I love when people just purely dominates an opponent by riding him, even though it is borderline stalling.
5:30 *Cough* Spencer Lee *Cough*
I’m old school…leave well enough alone…
If they pass the 3 point takedown rule, I’ll be the verge of never watching college wrestling again… it will be painful, but this is just criminal to me
Definitely moving in the right direction. I think these changes will improve the entertainment aspect of college wrestling. Folk style is so much less exciting to watch than freestyle, but I think this will fix that and encourage wrestlers to push the action.
If they are changing the rules this drastically, they may as well go to catch wrestling.
Did they address limited video review time? It is ridiculous and takes conditioning out of the equation significantly. Also I do not like the 3pt 3sec nearfall. They just made the refs job so much more difficult and their calls will be critiqued much more. We know the count is difficult enough. This will likely cause way more video reviews which is horrible.
Hell yeah
I think riding time still should apply without the turn. I like the three point takedown. A lot of wrestlers would dominate the match and loose at the very end.
Dumb.
Insert Ralph Wiggum “I’m helping” meme
I dont want to stop yelling “TWOOOOOO”
So can we just make escapes 0 point
😂
Great video. Fu*k the NBA
Only doing away with riding time makes sense to me. I get the motivation to increase the action, but mark my words, if they implement a three-point take down, it will not accomplish that. As it stands we see a lot of passivity by both wrestlers on the feet because they fear losing the take down, and another point will do nothing to change that. And, anyway, anyone who still loses after having more take downs should improve from the top position. Folk style is all about being the best in the aggregate, and a complete wrestler has a better chance than someone who is merely dominant in one of the skills. I otherwise think the goal in rules revisions should be to remove referee subjectivity as much as possible from the matches, which fans would support, and new fans would better be able to understand.
One thing about freestyle I like is the shot clock. If folk style would implement a version of that in the first period it could look thus: If after two minutes it is still scoreless, split the final minute of the first period with each wrestler being put on a thirty second clock, with one point being awarded in each case to the opponent for a failure to score a take down. No more stalling calls.
From top, with no riding time point awarded, the only thing the stalling rider achieves is saving an escape or reversal. Therefore they've done a minimal job and gained no major advantage from the position. No stalling call needed.
From bottom, an escape gets you a point. A wrestler with the lead from bottom who wants to stall out the final period should be able to. It's incumbent upon the top wrestler to be able to turn or cut and get more points. If, on the other hand, the bottom wrestler is behind, they need to get out. To prevent the scenario whereby a top wrestler runs the opponent out of bounds repeatedly, award an escape to a wrestler who can stand both of their feet out of bounds.
As someone who never wrestled but is a big fan, why not switch to freestyle rules all together? Legitimate question
Not being able to sit on the ankle would mess up PSU’s whole top game!
I'm not a fan of "cheap tilts" and racking up the score. Give 1 point for a back exposure and 4 points for a 5 swipe. I think this will help the refs and replays too. The exposure helps reward feet to back moves slightly and also discourage "cheap tilts" in my opinion. Reward exposure but really reward controlling exposure. Also, maybe cap near fall by period or match. Maybe 8 NF per period, 12 NF per match. Again incentivize genuine unsuccessful pinning attempts and pins.
More enforcement on top stalling. Keep riding time and no requirement for a turn.
1st top stall lose half riding time,
2nd top stall RT is cut in half again plus bottom is awarded a point,
3rd top stall RT cut in half again, bottom awarded 1 point plus the escape(an additional point).
Might have to incorporate RT into bottom stall penalties as well so double stall calls are even. So bottom stall calls would double riding time.
Impartial to 2 or 3 point takedowns, but a reversal needs to match a takedown. If takedown and reversal goes to 3 points, stall points need to change to remain and effective deterant. I could even see 3 points for initiated takedown, 2 points for defensive takedown.
Push out rule could help with stalling and action.
I'd love to see high school and college rules match. If riding time is eliminated this becomes closer to reality. But if riding time is eliminated there needs to be a non-subjective deterant to stalling on bottom.
In freeStyle,, it is a minimum of two points for a takedown, and no escape points. When the wrestlers face up after the. Takedown, it is 2-0. Now when the down wrestler escapes it is 3-1. Pretty much the same so what’s the big deal?
