All you have to do is slow down your golf swing. When I learned to “slow down” my golf swing, the ball started going farther and straighter. I didn’t feel like I was swinging hard. No, quite the opposite – I felt like I was swinging easier. For me, it felt like the fastest part of my swing was the slowest part. Golfers usually try to rush the golf swing and they end up struggling to play well. It’s tempting to rush your swing to get back to the ball, but you need to do the opposite to play well. Instead of rushing back to the ball, learn to slow your swing down. When you do this, your swing gets faster and you hit farther with less effort. You feel like your swing is slower, but you see the ball go farther. It’s an amazing feeling that you can get by watching this golf tip.

I'm going all in on your style. Take it back to the inside. Hands low. Weight forward. Slow down the hips. Slow down the transition. I'm a 1.8 handicap, but my short game is carrying me. I believe I could easily be a plus 2 with some better ball striking. Here's hoping your methods can help me 🤞
Enjoy your video, I’m going to try this out and hopefully it’ll help me out. Thanks for sharing!!! GC
Since the golf swing is only occurring is about 1.5 seconds, you can’t think or have more than one swing thought. To get this stopping point or tempo, my swing thought is a child’s swing set. Think about the swing seat momentarily stopping at the top of the arc before it begins its downward movement. I like to get my grip on the club where I can feel the clubhead in my swing. So I imagine the clubhead is the swing seat to the top of the arc, then momentarily stop before feeling it swinging through the ball to the top of my finish.
Ryan Fox would disagree.
5:16… the perfect swing! 👌🏽
Out of thousands of tips from others over the years this just simplifies and nail’s everything down to where/when the body should move and without thought! including a easily achieved balanced finish. Brilliant it stops all the silly muscles trying to get in on the action at the wrong time- makes me remember K.I.S.S.
Best instructor on YT
On the range today: my usual jerky swing, bad shots, then I remembered master Saguto's advice and slowed my swing … and instantly the shots became better, much better actually. Not all advices work that well but this one does … try it!
Just the video I needed Tom! I’ve been playing with a groin strain caused by violently snatching at the ball from the top of the backswing, I feel sure this will help me thank you!
I rarely like and comment. However, since you are the perfect combination of instructive and hilarious, I gladly honored your request. Keep it up. Your work is fantastic.
That’s crispy chicken right there!!
Love it!!
Buttery mashed potatoes and krispy KFC chicken! It works!
Another fantastic video that has really helped me from going over the top!! Thank you!!
Just stumbled on your channel and it's pure gold. New subscriber here!!
Great tip, Tom! I'm a 15.9 handicap and one of the major challenges for me is "grooving my swing" to avoid mishits which is topping my iron shots more often than I would like… I'm curious to find out if the position of your arms at the top of your back swing appears to be between the 10 to 11 o'clock assuming that your solar plexus is the center of the clock.
I think your tip may help me groove my swing so please let me know specifically what you think is your arms' "clock position" so that I can try it out on the range. Thanks in advance for your time.
I started shaking my buttocks several times before each backswing, but now my main playing partners hate me.
Thank you Tom for the amazing tutorial video. I sincerely believe this advice you lectured is the last piece to my golf swing. I can't wait to try it out~
I noticed your feet are always flared open at address. Is this something I should be doing? I’m always square to the ball…
Pure gold! Wow, I needed this
I agree 100% But I still struggle with it. Front nine I'm pretty much in a good rhythm but I lose focus and tire the back 9
Since I have been following your teaching and as a member of your online school, this video ranks as one of your "Creme de la Creme" pieces of advice for any follower of your technique….I watched the vid a few times and, played a round today…I can say that it was some of the most consistent golf I've played in a long time…Just the thought of stopping at the further most point in the turn and and returning the club at that moment has cleared up a lot of "noise" in my golf swing and have kept my wrists from "getting in trouble"…Thanks Tom…
I’m 56 and a 5 hdcp. I’ve always been a great driver of the ball and great around the greens to score. My irons have been thin and mostly a pull-fade ball flight. I watched your videos for two days and then went to the range. After 1/2 a bucket I started hitting the best irons of my life. This new swing worked with every club in the bag and will take several strokes off my hdcp for sure. Bring on the par 3s!!! Thanks so much for making golf fun and for offering these videos for everyone to enjoy. It really worked for me!
This guy is hilarious and teaches well.
Genius you are 👌🏻
This is right-on!
“Tell me you got one”
Yes, I have an arm lol. 😂👍
yes, the "cross roads" of golf. i'll never forget the look on pete cowan's face when i said to him that the downswing doesn't start until we get into the hitting area. and, it's just as you say: we should have a stop point. but, i don't think we should get to the top and stop, as tommy armour tells us in his book. when we have swung as far back as we can we should keep pushing back with the joint of the left wrist and the lower part of the right arm. the body, and the left side of the right forearm, then react against the left wrist joint and lower part of the right arm. and, really, we first have to work out where the hitting area begins. from a down the line perspective the club moves further on the inside in the start of the downswing. so the force that is directed into the clubhead moves away from the ball in the start of the downswing. then, as the club continues on its arc, the club starts to move towards the ball. and, really, the hitting area can't start until the club starts to move back round. and, it is when the club is at its furthest point away from the ball- from a down the line perspective- that the left hand is to the left side of the club. and, this is key to the release. and, it is at this point that the downswing begins- though a player may not be consciously aware of this, whilst swinging the club.
Hit a beautiful little 5 iron thinking "gotta go full "Hideki".
I love watching your YouTube videos and am certainly considering your classes offered on your website. The one thing I seem to struggle with the most is the change in length of club and how this affects my golf swing. I have a difficult time jumping from, say, a 9 iron straight to a 5 iron without having to regain the "feel." I also tend to slice more as the club length becomes longer. I am extremely happy with everything up to an 8 iron but start to struggle with a 7 or lower. The strange thing is I feel like if I swing "harder" with my hips this seems to somewhat fix my problem as if the centrifical force fixes the problem, but this quickly tires me, even pulling muscles and I'm pretty sure it is an uneccesary fix. I'm not exactly sure what is causing the disruption in my swing. I'm guessing I'm over swinging, bending my right hand or some other disturbance in the force as the club lengthens, but I'm not exactly sure. I would love to hear your feedback about club length and how this affects a novice golf swing as you are so wonderfully concise in your teaching. I feel like it is something small that I am missing. You have improved my golf swing more than anybody so far, and that's just from watching your YouTube videos over the past month. If you address club length in a previous video, please let me know.
Am I just seeing things or are you using JumboMax grips. I've noticed it in previous videos and I've been considering changing to them based on another YouTube channel. Actually, a number of them. I've never seen you discuss this and would like to hear your thoughts on it. You've given this 68 yo kid a lot to think about and I really appreciate it.
Thanks. Made me laugh. All those jerky "don't do this" moves? Looked like me…..
What you say makes lots of sense. I'll try it out on the range…..
