Another Aussie – 42-year-old Adam Scott shot a round of 4-under-par to put himself in the frame for a shot at a second Masters title.
Phil Mickelson carded a solid 71 in the opening round despite a double-bogey at No. 11 as three-time champion returned to the Masters after missed it in 2022 for the first time in 28 years.
The 52-year-old missed the first two majors of 2022, including his title defence at the PGA Championship, as he stepped away from competition amid a backlash over comments he made about the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit.
