Patrick cantlay did not react the way I thought he would!! On Sunday at The Masters, Patrick Cantlay got a lot of heat from both his competitors and fans for his alleged slow play and in my opinion it was well deserved. There is nothing worse than slow play right?
At one point, Viktor Hovland was seen approaching the green while Cantlay was still far back on the fairway!! WOW but there was no holding back from Brooks Koepka at the masters 2023!! Brooks was totally Furious With 1 Golfer particular golfer at the masters 2023 and i am not surprised!
Brooks Koepka is no fan of slow play on the golf course and he has not held back his feelings on this one! We have seen a lot of talk about slow play on the golf course, how what are golfers actually doing to stop it? Do they need a tutorial on How to Avoid Slow Play in Golf (PACE OF PLAY)!! Pace of play is always going to be a hot button topic when it comes to playing golf… but you never thought you would see it at the masters! I have had enough and i ill be providing some recommendations that I really hope golfers listen to this.
Was Brutally Slow” Pace Of Play An Issue At The Masters? I certainly think it was! There was a noticeable slowdown in the pace of play at the Masters in 2023, Brooks Koepka called it “brutally slow” and i am not surprised! Brooks was saying the group in front of them with Patrick Cantlay and Viktor Hovland may have been responsible.

Brooks Koepka also noticed the slow play. He played alongside Jon Rahm in the final group while Cantlay and Hovland played in the penultimate group. The four-time major champion was asked about the slow play from the group ahead.

come on! What about this reaction? I need to know what you think 👇🏼
It would be interesting to know what the average round was at The Masters?
Slow play or not, the discussions with the caddies and not being able to use a rangefinder in a tournament slows play down, when they are off the fairway the caddie has to count steps in order to get the yardage, we should stop this in professional golf. And having green reading booklets should also be forbidden. Reading greens should only be done by the player and not by the caddie. Just like tennis coaching is forbidden during competitive play.
Excessive talking on the green after putting out and on tees after teeing off. Plus where bags are left
I'm 65 years old. I can play 18 holes in 2 hours!!!! 3 hours should be a maximum time to play 18 holes of golf anywhere.
How does the time of the first pairing compare to the last pairing and were there any large time gape between pairings in the field?
Before you win a Major – you're slow
After you've won a major – you're deliberate
I am 65 and my regular playing partner is 68. We play 2X a week walking a 6900 yard course which according to his tracker is over 8000 yards if you factor in the distance between tees and tee boxes. I usually shoot in the low 80s to upper 70s. We never take more than 3:45hrs to play the round.
Real cause for slow play is the caddies, yardage’s,wind direction, club choices, how to hit the “shot”, where to aim,etc.etc.etc.
What about putting a time limit on a round of golf, say four hours fifteen minutes, max for a fourball then you can take as long as like on a shot but have to walk faster or walk slow and play your shot faster. At my course it takes three and a half to four hours to play a fourball match even when playing in competitions.
Okay guys, Rahm 4putted his first hole and it seems it did't get to him a bit…is it just me or does Rahm look mentally so strong that if keeps the form he is capable of winning Grandslam in 1 year? He is capable for sure but does he have realostic chances to pull this of? @back9 and everyone else what is your opinion? Almost 100 years after Boby Jones did it (masters wasnt there in 1930). But when Jon was describing his 4 putt and his thinking process it is "scary" how mantally strong the guy is this year
It's a dirty shame an American didn't win The Masters. Any American who pulls for a foreign golfer is a traitor to their country. Guarantee nobody in Spain was pulling for an American. My Americans are such front running no loyalty losers aka trumpers.
I used to be a slow player, but I learned how to speed up, I started practicing for my next shot while other players were putting or hitting shots, I started to assess my putts before putting while others were putting. Patrick Cantlay is dreadfully slow on the greens, and he needs to speed up, I can't stand watching him, he's the worst!
The faster I play, the better I play. Walk up and hit the ball or putt the ball. If I have to stand around and wait for every shot, it drives me nuts!!
Ready golf and give them range finders. The caddie stepping off yardage when they hit it someplace they shouldn't takes a long time. Maybe limit the discussion period the player and caddie have with some kinda clock. The 3-4 minute debate on what shot to hit is a little bit too much sometimes.
While watching the rounds on TV, it was obvious from the living room that Cantlay was the lone slow player.
There is no comparison between recreational golf and a pro tournament of any kind, period. That includes pace of play. Recreational golf shouldn't take 5 hours but that can be mitigated by course rules for new golf especially. Patrick suggested he was waiting for the group in front of them as well. For any twitter golfer suggesting they wouldn't play behind Patrick, can't. You're NOT good enough anyway. The level of ego from the weekend golfer is laughable. Just another arm chair quarterback otherwise known as Captain Shankopotomous.
Where I play we have 5+ hour rounds on the norm, and it’s due to no marshals and poor play! It’s not unusual to see people hit 3-4 shots until they hit a “good one!” It’s truly pathetic! Go get a couple lessons, and learn some of the etiquette and rules of the game.
Has anyone watched Aaron Rai play, he's a nightmare and ridiculously slow!
If we know the Cantlay/Hovland group took 4:50, how long did the group in front of them take? Simple answer. Where is it?
It's almost as if Cantlay was doing it on purpose. Ain't no way to grow the game allowing him to do that. It had to be the worst Masters I have ever seen. It never ended. PGA will not gain 1 new view if they allow events to go this long. I like the LIV format starts at noon ends by dinner.
Team Koepka giving advice, team Koepka slow pace looks to be all even to me.
If a player's round is affected by another golfer's slow play, it's the fault of the former. These are professionals and should be ready for and able to emotionally manage anything that they encounter on the golf course. This is not implying that slow play is okay and it should be addressed, only that each golfer is responsible for their own emotions.
Slow play has nothing to do with money at stake in my opinion. Rory is a good example and usually prefer to go out first in Ryder Cup not to be bothered. Would we accept to wait 3 minutes on every freekick in a football match or on a freethrow in a NBA game? Penalty shots is the only solution since thousand dollar fines for multimillionaires don't bother them!
Cantlay is pitifully slow and always has been. I took the time to count once he got over his put. He should know the line roughly the weight once over the ball but it still took him 33 seconds to pull the trigger. Baseball has started timing hitters and pitchers and the fans love it.
Slow play is a habit that needs to be broken.
I remember when Jack Nicklaus called out Glenn Day for brutally slow play. He called him Glenn "All" Day. That was years ago, and things still haven't changed.
I understand that it can get frustrating having a slow round, I have definitely had slow rounds, but I feel people have gone overboard with how fast they want people to play. Golf is about playing a sport and being out in nature, not seeing how fast you can play. I get that if you have some groups in front of you who aren’t great or new to the game it can get frustrating, especially if they don’t let you pass. I see too many singles/doubles in a cart that expect everyone to let them pass so they can finish in an hour or they get upset about slow play. I don’t see any issue with 9 holes taking 2-2 1/2 hours or 18 being 4-5. For pros to complain about slow play is just ridiculous in my opinion. They are getting paid loads of money for playing a sport, outside, with beautiful landscapes. What’s the big deal about a round taking 5 hours? If you don’t like it retire or find a new career. Pro athletes nowadays have turned into entitled children.
Be ready to hit your shot when it's your turn.
Here's one way to speed up play a little bit: a rule prohibiting a player from touching their ball if it's within 2 ft. of the cup.
The MLB started a pitch clock. Change is good! Golf NEEDS to fix the slow play! PGA players have therapists and it doesn't seem to help them think faster. 😮
I play golf for 4 hrs after that I walk off.😮😊
Slow play on tour overflows into non professional golf!!!
People want to play like the pros and play the equipment the pros play, wether they should or shouldn’t!
Public Golf course play is brutal now days because it isn’t just about people who are beginners, who should be putting money into lessons vs taking 5 hours to play a round but me and friends I play with get behind people who appear to play decent but just plain take foreeeeever! Nothing stinks more than being a non-slow player who shoots decent scores in the 70’s and has to deal with slow play!
I had a round last summer that took 6 hours. This is BS! If no one is in a course or I have a morning t time, me and whoever I play with can play a fun round at about 1.40 hours per 9 holes!
Now we’ve been going to out of town courses that are not as busy to try and enjoy a decent pace of play round!
Covid got a lot of people into golf and unfortunately, people who should never get into golf are on the course duffing 8 shots before they are even in the green, then taking 4evvver to line up a putt!
Slow play is killing the enjoyment for good golfers!!!
Politely Get these slow players off the course! It’s great you love golf but get some lessons for gods sake! Why hack up scores of 10 & be slow?
Slow play is BS!
I wonder if it was done on purpose.
The governing authorities will not say or do anything because they don't want to run another guy to the LIV tour. LOL! I guarantee they will stay tight lipped. They are not rocking that boat!
OK – here's some thoughts:
* MLB implemented a pitch clock. How about an "at address" clock, posted at either the TV towers or on grounds leaderboards? My guess is that players would think less on the mechanics of what they want to do and more on what they've rehearsed time and time again on the practice tee – like NBA players have done with their free throws. Ya don't see a free throw clock do ya? Meaning they'd train to not pay attention to the "at address" clock.
* What about an 18 hole cut? It would speed up the rest of the weekend. (quick playing LIV players would love this). And it would redefine trunk-slamming. You're a pro golfer? Yeah – we all are out here and our numbers are growing – can't beat par out here? Not Pro enough! (this week).
* I hate to say it – don't dial back the ball like we've heard whispers of.
* I watch enough golf to say confidently that I have never noticed Cantlay playing slow. Maybe that's why we don't see him as much when he's not quite in contention, even though he can get hot as we just saw this weekend.
I watched and I believe that they both slowed down the last round just to get into Brooks head. Jon rahm and cantley did that on purpose. They could not bear to see a LIV golfer win the tournament I think they planned it before the round started. That's why I don't watch PGA tour anymore.
Watched it all day the end of the 3rd and final start. I'm not even a fan of koepka but I agree with him as soon as that round began I knew cantlay speed was gonna be an issue especially on the greens for him and Rahm. I have never seen a pro mark his ball read a putt replace his ball remark it reread the putt place the ball mark It again then finally putt multiple times in a round. I also don't think I've seen a pro eat that many sandwiches or take as many bathroom breaks as Rahm in that round either lol.
Cantlay… The new Langer
A two ball 5 hour round is PAINFUL. That's just ridiculous.
Once the players get to their ball a clock should start just like there doing in the major leagues. Screw the wind pick a club and hit it.
Koepke's got to harden the funk up. He's sounding like a sore lover.
