Robby Shelton’s journey to the PGA Tour is a story of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Born on February 25, 1995, in Wilmer, Alabama, Shelton grew up playing golf with his family. He attended St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama, where he won multiple high school championships.
After graduating from high school in 2013, Shelton committed to playing college golf at the University of Alabama. He had a stellar college career, winning four tournaments and earning All-American honours in his junior year. In his senior year, he helped lead the Crimson Tide to the NCAA Championship, where they finished as the runners-up.
After graduating from college, Shelton turned professional and began playing on the Korn Ferry Tour (formerly the Web.com Tour) in 2017. He struggled in his first season, but he kept grinding and eventually found success. In 2019, he won the Nashville Golf Open and finished in the top 25 on the Korn Ferry Tour money list, earning his PGA Tour card for the 2019-2020 season.
Shelton’s rookie season on the PGA Tour was a mixed bag. He made 16 cuts in 29 starts and had four top-25 finishes, but he also missed the cut in his last six starts and finished outside the top 125 on the FedEx Cup points list, meaning he lost his PGA Tour card. However, he didn’t give up. He went back to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020 and won the Wichita Open, which helped him secure his PGA Tour card for the 2020-2021 season.
In his second season on the PGA Tour, Shelton had some solid performances, including a tie for fifth at the Puerto Rico Open, but he struggled with consistency and missed the cut in 15 of his 26 starts. Despite his ups and downs, he finished inside the top 125 on the FedEx Cup points list and retained his PGA Tour card for the 2021-2022 season.
