  1. I've never heard ANYONE explain match play like this. The explanation makes sense but I'm skeptical because no one does that…🤔

  2. I love your edits! What program do you use? This course looks awesome!

  3. biGgesT 9 aNd 15 haNdICap fRauDs I'Ve EveR SeEn! 👀😂

Pleasure playing with you mate! What about those views though?

  4. I know swing changes aint easy, but have you considered trying to make a swing change, so its not so extremly flat ? And causing trouble left side none stop
I was the same for a few years with a extremly flat swing, and it was doing my head in with left misses/hooks
Was tough to change, but handicap dropped alot efter i finally did make a change

  5. The phrase "hit it you dickhead" whilst leaving a putt short is the most relatable thing I've ever heard on any YouTube golf channel! 🤣🤣

  6. Where did you find or can tell me where to look for the match play rules that you mentioned in the beginning of your video. I need to show my fellow playing partners. Thanks in advance

  7. I have always argued this. I have also always lost the argument. USGA states that in match play, the lower handicap plays off of a zero handicap, and the other players play off of the differential.

  8. It works both ways, but I don't think this is the proper USGA and RCGA method. They both state that you zero out the low cap.

Also, I think there used to be a rule where for match play everyone plays off 75% of their handicap. I have no proof of this haha.

**edit: I see this has been mentioned already

  9. I wish you were right on this matter.
But the rule is that the lower handicap player plays off scratch, while the competitor receives strokes equal in number to the difference in handicaps, applied 1 through n according to the stroke index on the scorecard.
Cf: the USGA “Rules of Handicapping FAQS”.

  10. I played the Saguaro course in December. Incredible course! Fun to watch you play it after having played there myself.

  11. So what that amounts to is the 15 handicap gets a stroke on handicap holes 10-15 and the rest are played straight up or am I wrong?

  12. I recently realized I have watched more rounds of your golf than any PGA tour pro. Congrats, you are my favorite golfer!

  13. Love your channel…so relatable. We play off the lower index player to keep it fair. Giving the best player strokes on the hardest holes definitely gives them a significant advantage, especially if the differential between the lowest and other players is large. Virtually guarantees they will win the hardest holes…

  14. In the USGA Rules, specifically rule 3.2c (2), it says that the handicap as applied in this video is correct (as opposed to the guidelines which "zero" the lower handicap) At my club we typically give 75% of the H.I. and zero the lower handicap player.

Excerpt from the rule: Each player is responsible for knowing the holes where he or she gives or gets handicap strokes, based on the stroke index allocation set by the Committee (which is usually found on the scorecard).
Thus, my H.I. of 15 gets strokes on the 15 most difficult holes, yours as a H.I. of 9 gets strokes on the 9 most difficult holes…I get strokes on six holes where you get no strokes… and for the nine most difficult holes we play basically off scratch as we both get strokes. At least that's how I interpret it… subject to clarification.

  15. I think the methodology of which holes to give strokes on really doesn't matter ultimately. You could theoretically pick random holes to give strokes on. A better player is simply going to have a better chance to do better on every hole statistically, and it will all average out in the end anyways.

  16. Actually the stroke indexes for the holes do not indicate which holes are harder than other holes. The hole indexes show the ranked differences (usually by side) of the difference in score for lower handicap players compared to higher handicap players.

  17. I’ve always wondered why match play wasn’t played this way…. Really should get strokes on the holes the lower index doesn’t get strokes on. The lower index shouldn’t be penalized for being slightly better and then magically not get strokes on the 6 hardest holes.

  18. Another great video! Nice win. I have not seen a match play game scored like that before. Interesting. I guess the normal theory is that the higher handicap player will need more help on the tougher holes.

  19. Nice video but we can handle a longer one, say 15 mins video for a 9 hole match.

  20. How u played match play today is exactly how I was taught to play match play, but I'm relatively new to golf (started during covid)

  21. Why Not Just Let Both Golfers Use Their Full Course Handicaps?

Why is it done that way – the subtracting of one golfer's handicap from the other, then one golfer getting zero strokes? In our first example above, one golfer had a 14 course handicap and the other 10. Why not just let them both use that number of handicap strokes during the match?

The USGA directly answers this question in the decisions section of its Handicap System Manual. So we'll quote that answer:

" Handicap stroke holes are established to maximize the number of halved holes in a match by assigning strokes where player A most needs his four strokes in order to obtain a half on those holes. If both A and B receive strokes on those four holes, the better player (B) will have a greater chance of winning those holes."

The way you guys played is incorrect according to sources online.

  22. Love your channel but this is exactly wrong. Lower person plays off scratch and gives the net difference to the higher index on the lowest index holes.

  23. Love your videos and been following you since the beginning. Question – Can you make a video on how you record your videos, what do you use for shot tracers, equipment etc. etc? I’m interested in possibly starting filming/documenting my golf journey but would like to know how/what you use. Thanks!

  24. The one thing Adam does really really well in his swing is clear his hips (rotates around them) and does not early extend. I feel like that is the secret sauce to a consistent swing.

  25. Hi Adam, love your channel but you are wrong about the match play handicap rules. It absolutely is the higher handicap player using his handicap minus the lower handicap player's handicap. The lower handicap player always plays from scratch.

  26. Let me see if I understand both side here. Everyone agrees that Luke gets 6 strokes from Adam. The question is does he get them on stroke index 1-6 or 10-15. Is that correct? I do not see in the USGA Appendix C where it says where the strokes should be applied. Saying that the lower handicap player goes off zero does not provide an answer. Please point to the verbage if I am missing something. Thanks.

  27. The USGA describes their match play philosophy that by stroking off the low ball, the higher handicap will get shots where they need them most, resulting in more holes tied compared to won or lost. If players used full handicaps in match play, the better player will have the advantage on the more difficult holes and the weaker player will have an advantage on the easier stroke holes. Resulting in more holes won or lost due to handicap strokes.

  28. Hey. I work at the Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae, CA (Dr. Mackenzie Course). Would love it if you came out and tried this track out!

  29. Yeah this handicapping format didn't seem right to me. it would award the worse player strokes on easy holes and the better player would likely win the harder holes.

    See USGA FAQ below:

    Handicap Competitions

    Q. Why does the player with the lowest Playing Handicap™ play at scratch (0) in match play?

    A. By stroking off the low ball, the higher handicap player(s) receive their handicap strokes on the holes where they need them most – resulting in more holes tied compared to holes won or lost. If players used full Playing Handicaps in match play, the better player would have the advantage on the more difficult holes (because he or she would also be getting strokes) and the other player(s) would have an advantage on the easier holes.

  30. This guy is wrong. This is not how match play works. Defeats the whole purpose of 'giving' shots if the better player gets extra shorts on the hardest hole too.

  31. Well I am very confused by all of this, including the other comments. I thought the higher handicapped player took only 3/4 of the difference between the two handicaps! No-one else seems to be mentioning that, so maybe it was a local rule specific to my club!
