There is not one cookie cutter drill that works for everyone, full stop. Everyone has a unique swing and good teachers and coaches will develop drills based on each individual student's needs.
I have tried these drills and found them difficult to do and they did not really help. Best drill I found was your shallowing drill. This improved my overall swing quality. Thanks.
Proper fundamentals should be the main foundation to every swing. After that, it's experimenting during practice sessions, to the point where your swing is free from thought, smooth and in rhythm. Speed should increase through the ball, not at the ball.
I come too far inside, so the drill that works for me is an alignment stick in the ground sticking up and I keep the shaft outside, when I play I feel straight back or even over the top, but I'm really coming in at a good angle, that drill and like you say it's all about the face angle coming into the ball. My best ever drill came from
shanking, I place a cereal box filled with rags (and taped shut) outside the ball, if you hit the box you're early extending or too inside, if you're over the top you'll hit the box, it gets my swing path right.
The step drill. Start with the feet relatively close together and step towards the target with the front foot as the club gets to P2 in the backswing. Causes a much better sequence and pressure shift.
The Ben Hogan "right hand training grip" with thump and forefinger in the air is my favorite training drill at the moment.
That punisher drill didn’t work at all, my instructor didn’t seem to care. The drill that worked for me is the figure 7 I learned from you and the left arm around the post to stop the chkn wing. Thanks man i wish I’d known about you 10 years ago.
Most drills do not help me. I tend to over exaggerate the point when in a drill. Your verbal instruction and Mike Austin's help me the most to FEEL the flush. Thank you Steve.
The drill of the tee about rolling your wrist
Hi Steve, I am a fan of Henry Cotton’s tire drill as well as your swing around a pole without breaking your elbow drill. Good stuff.
Thanks Steve. A really useful video
Steve,
My top three in descending order: Best-your chair drill for maintaining posture, really put me on the path to consistent powerful ball striking; second-the pole drill for proper release of the hands; lastly-the Austin pivot as a concept for repeatable weight transfer and swing path.
