Once again, JT talking out of his rectum…I think you’re overdoing it with the “playing the same equipment as the pros.” And, btw, if ams want to use the same equipment, they certainly can…nothing stopping them from using the dialed back ball…then he comments as if the ams will be using the dialed back ball…gives no examples of the USGA’s decisions that have been selfish…not even sure what that means…how is the USGA selfish? Love JT’s game, but the more he talks, the more he should just shut up…
OMG!!! Justin Thomas's comments should be echoed from the highest mountain because these rules officials definitely got their darn heads stuck in the clouds. BREAKING NEWS,,, we've just learned that a new proposed rule from the USGA is that players will only be allowed to play with 6 approved golf clubs because history has proven that 14 clubs are too advantageous to other players. Also, players will no longer be allowed to wear golf shoes with spikes nor shoes with any traction advantages as this will eliminate golf courses needing to grow a special grass to accommodate these shoes. Crocks will be the official golf shoe to better the game and golf courses for the future. These new changes are to make golf better for the future so everyone will be on the same level no matter how talented they are because we want everyone to be the same,,,, even though everyone is not the same. Makes perfect sense👎
Its about time this is long overdue as a senior golfer playing this game for 60 years i have seen the ball benefit the younger generation my children included it has gotten out of hand how far they hit it…….
Further divides the golf world in my view! What they have to realize is golf is an "ego" sport where us, the am world, like to think that we are playing with the same equipment and same rules as the pros. We don't want to think that we are not competing on the same level as the pros even though we are 10-12 hdcp, "ego"!😅 Just makes it more fun IMHO! I did hear that the NBA was thinking of lowering the basket 2 feet for the shorter players and that the NFL was limiting players weight to 175 lbs so we'll have to see how that goes, lmao! Seriously, I could see more players defecting to the sickening exhibition liv tour. Wouldn't surprise me to see LIV come out and say " come over to LIV where you can play whatever ball you want". Want to fix the distance problem, have the courses reduce green sizes from the 8000-9000 sq ft average for pro tournaments to 5000-6000 sq ft range thus saving the courses money in nutrients, watering, equipment etc. and making them harder to hit and hold from shorter range for the bombers. Just an example that there are other options out there to consider……
The point here is, Jack and tiger knew this day would come, blame governing rules of golf to not limit golf ball manufacturers to a distance limit. Obviously titleist is to blame they created the “super ball”. The iron Byron and other machines can replicate fast if not the fastest club head speeds, they know how far a ball can travel. It’s too late you can’t go backwards those balls are out there, if they decide to limit balls it should be every ball for every level.
Extending the mile is a great idea. Likewise lets just gather up all the crappy range balls around the world and let the pros use those and get us some new ones on those babies.
Im disappointed in JT. This is such a dumb response. I have to think he is just trying to spin this the way Titleist wants him to. If its "a solution in search of a problem" then why have they been lengthening courses for last couple decades. It's hardly a new problem let alone a non-existent one. 🤦♂️
Narrow the fairways, harden the greens..and heighten the rough at 300 yards plus… reward long and straight… the problem is these guys are bombing it 330 into rough and not worrying about not being able to attack the green…
Most ppl already dont play the same clubs/lofts as pros, don't play same course setups, don't play same tees, many don't even play the same ball now. Bridgestone has had versions of their premuim ball based on swing speed for a while already. This outrage over the idea that the pros have a pro version of ball while ams play an am version is ridiculous.
Idk if the ball is the best way, but something has to be done, and the ball does seem like the simplest solution. And its hardly noticeable. Would ppl rather their driver looks like its for hackers cuz its twice the size of the pros? Personally I think size of driver head is another viable option, but if the ball change is so offensive, I imagine the driver would bother the same ppl a lot more.
This is like working for a corporate company and executives who have no idea about the job start coming up with stupid ideas. There is no problem and having two different flight balls would ruin the game. Golf is hard enough even for pros.
And you blame the guys for going to LIV? LOL! Stuffy white shirts trying to control everything! I bet if a few more top guys threaten to leave, that would be the end of that discussion!
Its funny to me that he didnt mention the fact that theses balls and equipment are getting significantly better every year. It has nothing to do with the athletes at all. Im not sure if he noticed how the courses have to be lengthened every year because the ball and clubs he and everyone else nowadays are using is making the game unrecognizable and not as difficult as it used to be. In. 20 years just think of what the courses will have to look like to keep up with the technology. It will take 7 hours for you to play a round of golf because the courses will be 150% longer then they are now. It makes perfect sense to me. The driver is limited to 460 cc or whatever, i believe the golf ball should have certain limits as well period.
Justin Thomas, is missing the point, all par 4’s are pretty much driver wedge for these pro’s, they are even coming close to driving 360 yard par 4’s. So pro’s are using 4 wedges now because the ball is going too far.
If we all want to play with same gear, and even the blind can see the modern players are over powering old courses, then why don't we all play a shorter ball, like Jack Nicklaus suggested years ago. Far cheaper than changing golf clubs, and altering courses.
The entire USGA board , committee needs to resign and go back to their old jobs. It’s incredibly stupid & ignorant the way of thinking they have collectively concluded this BS!!!

Play the same ball you play??? What BS. There are tons of different ProV1 versions on tour. There are only 2 of them that people can buy.

“Trying to create a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist.” Seems like there’s a lot of that going on these days. 😕
Its about time this is long overdue as a senior golfer playing this game for 60 years i have seen the ball benefit the younger generation my children included it has gotten out of hand how far they hit it…….
Agree 💯! USGA is lazy and just plain stupid at times.

Different balls is a stupid idea

Keep the ball as is… grow the rough higher…
Narrow the fairways, harden the greens..and heighten the rough at 300 yards plus… reward long and straight… the problem is these guys are bombing it 330 into rough and not worrying about not being able to attack the green…
First step in destroying the game!
Another reason to join LIV GOLF!

Things like this will drive more players over to LIV. If the PGA isn't thinking of that, no one is paying attention.

I agree with the players. I like to see bombs and to do this to satisfy some old pga players who don’t like being shown up is wrong.
Justin you are making total sense but politics makes no sense. You can't fix stupid.
And you blame the guys for going to LIV? LOL! Stuffy white shirts trying to control everything! I bet if a few more top guys threaten to leave, that would be the end of that discussion!
Just put severe hazards in at300 320 yds ,good pot bunkers will resolve. A pro will always outlive all amateurs by 25 %
Totally agree with Justin just make the courses harder ?,simple

Usga is a joke and I hope they see this!!

Make the rough such a penalty that the pros will put a greater premium on accuracy over bombing it.
