Matt and Dom go through a deluge of comments from our fans about the new golf ball regulations the USGA and R&A have set forth. You can join the conversation during our live show on Youtube at 8 am EST Mondays-Thursdays.
How does the math work? Seems like everyone should lose 10% equally… You're saying the bigger hitters lose less distance; and the shorters hitters lose more distance… Doesn't seem right
OK seriously thinking about this, methinks this is a brilliant move by the R and A and USGA. The talk of limiting distance has been around for years. By making such a radical move and saying " This is what it will look like" they are challenging pro's and fans alike. IMHO No one wants bifurcation in golf, it is one of the sports strengths and everyone loves the long ball, both men and women. The only question is "what do fans want to see? The protection of traditional golf courses or super low scores on those golf courses? They will get their answer through this proposal. The answer to me is easy, I love that that US Open is super tough and I love to see these elite athletes grind for those four days and they can set up just about any tour course to do that , but would I want to watch that every week, for me the answer is no. I want to see birdies and eagles, I want to see an "OK corral style gunfight" with guns blazing and birdies galore. It is all relative and most fans don't care if par wins or 25 under wins, we just want to be entertained. I think this message will be conveyed by fans and pros in such a way, " we as golfers don't want this" to such a radical proposal, then the governing bodies can put this issue to bed forever.
Guys work hard for these advantages. These are preppy golfers who developed every muscle in their body. It’s not an unfair advantage. They want to penalize golfers for trying to be healthier, longer. It’s a sin really.
Make the Tour pros play wooden drivers with steel shafts and a balata ball…then they might stop bitching…modern equipment has added 25+ yds to drives…and created 200yd 7irons
No problem with the ball. Never heard of someone coming for a lesson cuz they are hitting it too far. The players have got faster and stronger. Modify the courses. Fwys and rough.

Could this lead to more golfers defecting?

It will be funny when the new ball becomes law…the ball OEMs will claim they have the longest pro ball…ha ha.

The future yardages they lose will take them back to like 2006 distances….what's the big deal…
What stupid idea, I'll just stock up on 2023 balls on market they still be in play in 2030. The power to be in golf going down wrong road.
