  1. Been playing a combination 5w/ 7w; 3, 4 & 5 hybrid for the last 8 years or so. Like the 4&5 hybrids as options around the green as much as forgiveness (7.2 index).

  2. 99% is too high more like 75% would benefit. Irons these days have a lot of forgiveness even when you hit on the bottom grooves.

  3. I just was fitted for new clubs. Ended up with Driver, 3h 7wood 5h, 7iron, 7h, 9iron, pw, 45.5, 50, 54, and 58. I really hit hybrids well.

  4. I'm a relative beginner, playing an MP-29 2-iron alongside my 221 irons, and the 2 is one of my most reliable and consistent clubs. I may drop a wedge for my 1-iron.

  5. I switched to hybrids over 20 years ago. Replaced from my 4 iron to 8 iron. Never looked back. Took a couple of years to get comfortable with them. Canada played on a course that is fairly hard in western Canada. 68yrs old playing better courses now I have time.

  6. The lofts are very strong, so I hit my 6 iron off the ground, but I save my 5 iron to hit off the tee on tight par 4s. I don’t use a 4 iron, I use a 4 hybrid. Works well!

  7. I purchased G430 4 and G430 5 hybrids this year. Thinking about trying a 3 hybrid from Srixon after this video.

  8. Big fan. Absolutely love your reviews. Just can’t come to terms with dumping my 4 and 5 iron.

  9. Nar keep yer hybrid’s I’ll stick with my traditional iron set up 3 iron to pitching wedge.
67 in May and still knocking it around in low to high 70’s with the odd sub 70 round. I’m just about to get fitted for a new set of Mizuno MP 225’s 3 to PW I love the fact that I can work my irons left or right, flight them up or down, they just work for me. My first set of irons were a half set of St Andrews blades 3, 5, 7, 9, SW. The club pro told me that “if you can hit a 3 iron lad everything else is easy” when I can’t hit a 3 iron I’ll pack it in!!

  10. I quite like my 5 iron, I never got a 4 but I've just got a mizuno clk 2020 3 hybrid, I'm looking at ditching, 3 and 5 wood and going 3 hybrid but I may knock it down to 17° and a 4 hybrid ild like a 2 but there quite rare and I'm not paying £280 for a hybrid new

  11. You are dead on right. I used to only have a driver and 3 wood in the bag, and I often hit a 2 iron. Now I have 3 woods, and 2 hybrids, my irons start at 6 iron. My long game has much improved even at a sr age.

  12. I just prefer long irons.
However, the the soil in my area is a dense clay and I've found that irons can be difficult to play when the turf gets saturated after heavy rains. I use #3 & #4 hybrid when the course gets sloppy

  13. I ditched my 4, 5, and 6 irons for Tour Edge E522 hybrids about 3 months ago and have no regrets. I would consider a 7 hybrid as well but not many manufacturers make them especially for lefties.

  14. I have Srixon 3 and 4 utility driving irons and a TaylorMade SIM 2 hybrid. Easily my 3 most versatile and favourite clubs.

  15. Would you recommend still gaming a traditional hybrid if I’m already playing with Taylormade hd hybrid/irons?

  16. You need a low iron to get out of trouble. Punch hooking or cutting a Hybrid is not an easy thing. Much easier with a low iron.

  17. They are better for any club speed. More forgiving, better launch angle and spin. Toe and heel, well any mishit for that matter, go further than mishits with an iron. Yes they are different and take a little time to get use too, but once you do, you will be glad you did.

  18. Wish i changed 20 years ago and had a 9 or 7 wood. Not landing a long iron on the green and stopping for me. Plus so much more forgiving to hit and out of the rough.

  19. I love my hybrid (an old Callaway RAZR 4 hybrid) and when I change my irons next I’ll probably stop a 6 iron, possibly 7 and go into new hybrids.

However, I don’t get this insistence that they’re right for everyone. I have mid handicap mates that love hitting 3 and 4 irons and hit them consistently well. Why would you and Crossfield constantly push clubs onto people whose game you don’t know?

  20. Whether you should drop an iron for a hybrid all depends on your swing speed and the loft of the club. I have an average male swing speed and I know that any iron with a loft below 25 degrees is pretty marginal for me – below that and I do not have the swing speed to consistently launch the ball, as a result my longest iron is a 5i. Different iron designs, for example a game improvement iron with a lot of mass at the bottom, might allow me to play an iron with a little lower loft but I doubt it.

But the loft issue also applies to hybrids. For me there is no point in hitting a hybrid with a loft below 20 degrees, I just do not get enough launch. At that point I need to switch to a higher lofted fairway wood.

So in my bag my longest iron is a 5i (i210 so a loft of 26 degrees), 4 hybrid weakened to 23 degrees and then a 7 wood with a loft of 21 degrees

  21. Longest iron I play is a 7. Then its a 7 hybrid, 5 hybrid, 9 wood and driver. With my swing speed gives me a lovely club gapping all the way up to 220 yards. Great out of the rough too!

  22. The Srixon ZU range are rhe easiest long irons I've ever hit. The Z-U65/85 are cheaper, versatile, as easy to hit as a hybrid but can keep it lower in wind etc.

  23. Play with a wilson staff utility 15 degree-use instead of driver, very happy with it eventhough lose distance. Then use 2,3 and irons after which I adore and wouldn't dream of replacing for hybrids. Personally never could quite get used to driver and hybrids but each are different in style of swing etc. Nothing beats the feeling of hitting the 2 iron sweet spot and seeing it fly?

  24. 4 iron is my club of choice for hitting through trees and punching out under branches, which means it gets a lot of usage. I do carry a 3 hybrid, which I use from 4 iron kind of yardage in the rough or fairway.

  25. I've been playing four years now. Yes, longer irons and longer clubs in general are harder to hit, but you should learn how to hit them. I play Ping i525 irons and my 4 iron goes further and straighter than my 4 hybrid. I play a SIM Max 3 hybrid and 3 wood above that.

  26. Play G425 4-5 hybrid. I have the speed and can hit a 4 and definitely the 5. But why work harder? I find it much easier to hit them high and straight and also like that I can get a bit extra out of them if needed.

  27. I never liked hybrids over the years…recently bought Ping 425 3 Hybrid on sale to replace 3I…and cannot believe how well I hit it….now thinking of buying a Ping 430 2 Hybrid to replace 3Wood….
