Matt and Dom discuss the huge new changes announced by the PGA Tour that may leave some players on the outside looking in when it comes to making it to the top of the game thanks to more limited field designated events.

  1. …more spillover from PGA to LIV for guaranteed money…I see so many names I don't even recognize on PGA leader boards…

  2. If you look at the backside of this. The PGA knows they will lose the legal case. They won’t be able to not allow the LIV players to play on the PGA. So once the LIV guys start getting points again and qualifying for these events. The PGA has figured out a way that points don’t matter for their tour

  3. I’m not a fan of all these moves, especially changing the traditional events. I’m into smaller field events and no cuts and ‘evolution’ but this is just kinda sad.
    Adams is right to doubt.
As for their reason: aside from having the top stars all 4 days the argument is by ruining pga tour life for rank and file it somehow does not ruin life for the rank and file events.
I would argue getting players in the 8o to last place really helps no one. The Hondas are going to say thanks for giving me 80-to last. But no thanks. Honda is gone already. If I’m a Honda I’m kinda gone too because at least the old way i was almost assured at least a few bigger names. But now with the top 8o having their own special little tour, the chances are very few if any of the top guys show up to smaller events. Some top guys will be loyal to certain events. But that’s loyalty. That’s not a good system that gets them a few big names to be the protagonists of their events.
And no even thou golf geeks may know some guys 8o and down, those are not the guys tourneys and tv need. Those guys would probably still be at a ton of those events anyway because a lot of times those guys play more than stars.
The whole thing is a mess.

I did not catch jacks comments at the Honda. Specifically what he thinks of memorial having its field cut in half —not by him. But i would have to assume Arnie—the great uniter— the life of the party- would not be thrilled for his party to be cut in half by others. For starters it’s their events. They are the legends. They should be the ones making these decisions. I hope they are and that Rory isn’t fast talking the legends as well now. All to get his way, which is to continue his immature fight against billions being poured into the sport while doing what’s necessary to get as much as possible. At least that’s how it comes out. Imo.

  4. PGA plagiarizes LIV. Might as well have Greg as a commissioner. Eliminate the useless middleman. 🤣

  5. Too many designated events. Should be max of 6 apart from majors, players and playoffs. Max of 14 elite field events. Also too many automatic spots from prior years standings – should be max of 40 from prior year plus next 40 hottest players with a cut to 60 players. If a popular player doesn’t make the cut there is a low chance they would be on TV anyway.

  6. Good discussion. I simply agree with the old bromide: If you want to make more money, work harder, get better, PLAY BETTER!
I watch the so-called rank and file players week after week, and they rarely improve their position in the field. Lots of factors contribute to that: age, disability, not as hungry, family life, et al. Something separates them from the players that are highly motivated and hungry, and usually in the hunt or at least make most of the cuts. Golf is a tough game and very difficult to maintain focus and sharpness week after week after week. Dom is right on. Golf purses derive from TV ratings and popularity. Big money does not get generated from events that lack stars.

  7. Not watching or going to my local event. I want to see liv change their format back to the traditional golf now.

  8. I am sick of the pga they are becoming Woke and privileged assholes I hate it , old enough to offer an opinion

  9. I think because of this pga change, we w see more players move to LIV, perhaps 5 – 10 more, maybe even this yeR

  10. Tiger Woods 986 world ranking, tell me never get back top tier, lost his popularity since gone against new tour on block, he won't make top tier events unless they give him invite, the game is not just one man it's thousand off people.

  11. You have to play the younger players in order to advance some of them to the next level. All and all, the rules suck, and let’s face it, if you have your card and it’s not a major, than you should play. Majors being invited

  12. The reality of all sports now days. Is trying to get as much GUARANTEED money for top athletes. And now golfer are no different.

  13. WOW .. do we forget this is a game .. I love playing and watching golf .. but it’s called “playing” golf for a reason. It’s a game. It’s not finding the cure to cancer. It’s not finding the answer to world peace. It’s not producing anything of value and we pay millions .. yes, millions to put a small white ball into a hole in the ground 350+ yards away. We, I mean the people watching .. and I love watching the PGA .. need to get understand .. it’s started out a spectator sport that raised money for charities … and now it’s PGA this, LIV that .. let’s just plat golf .. oh, the WM open, the Genesis and last weeks Arnold Palmer we great … and, while the field wasn’t up there at the Honda Classic .. the entertainment and story were ..
BUT LETS REMEMBER … IT A GAME

  14. Hey, you remember what rabbits were? Trying on Mondays to qualify. Who were they, and who cared? Win, and you’re no longer a rabbit. I like what the tour is doing. The Hanns are just rabbits. Just win.

  15. "Standard events" are going to die. That stupid swing season bs is going to die. They're going to reduce the number of tournaments each year. All things that need to happen anyways. LIV forced their hand.

  16. Nobody wants to see Spieth or JT or whoever when they're having a bad week and are at +6. Let them miss the cut and move on and let a lesser known player playing good get that spot that week. No cut is stupid.

Their weak attempt at competing with the XFL, aka LIV. What a joke.
