Legendary football commentator John Motson has died “peacefully in his sleep” at the age of 77.

Motson’s career spanned over 50 years. He covered 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships, 29 FA Cup finals and over 200 England games during his long career.

  1. As an American it was rare moments that I was able to hear him back in the day. But his involvements with the FIFA video games were fantastic and made an indelible impression to me. You lost a great man my UK friends.

  5. I met John outside Stamford Bridge after a game, I spotted him heading to the underground car park in his sheepskin coat. He said he was in a rush but he took the time to stand there and pose for a photo with me, a photo I’ll always cherish. R.I.P Motty x

  11. We all can't forget the "Aguerooooo" scream when Aguero scored at the last minute in 2012 for Man City to win the league. Rest in peace legend.

  12. "The Crazy Gang have beaten the Culture Club." – My first memory of the great mans commentary. A vopice that would be with us for the next 35 years or so, both watching the football and before being immortalised in video game form. RIP

  13. I'm from America, I've been a supporter of Liverpool FC for 33 years. That being said, There has never been a commentator like John Motson, he was and will always be a legend.The Golden Voice of the Premier League. RIP John, My prayers are with his family and loved ones.

  14. When the original Wimbledon (now MK Dons) defeated an already-crowned league winners Liverpool back in 1988, John Motson made this iconic word: "the Crazy Gang have beaten the Culture Club".
    Also, when England failed to qualify for Euro 2008, Motson said that it was a "big desolation for Wembley".
