Larsa asks “When you’re doing the throw action, can you show me the hand, wrist, arm, hip, body action?”
It can be confusing to think of all the actions your arms, shoulders, hands, and body need to perform in order to complete the golf swing. Eliminate over-thinking it by remembering how to throw a ball. When you throw a ball, your body naturally aligns to what your hands are doing. Try not to complicate the swing by focusing on all the individual variables, first understand how your hands operate and let your body follow your hands.

I throughly enjoy the simplified direct manner in which you teach golf.
Love this. But what about the vertical hinge? Aren’t there other drills you’ve shown to hinge upward and then swing back?
great video and congrats for the 100k…nice to see that you started to answer…ciao from italy
Congratulation to 100K! Its not easy to obtain! You sure have a way to explain things in a simple and understandable way, which I appreciate very much.
Agree with the right hand action, most golfers over 14hcp should work on it and get it first,if like most they are right handed playing right. But it is the ability to get onto the left side that gets you down to 7hcp and if you can use the left side even lower!
I would like to think that we’re all winners with these great tips you put out, thank you.
Wow this video is fantastic. Thanks for putting this great explanation out there
Can you explain this title that states the body follows the arms?
Great video and congrats.
Mike, this video is the ah ha moment that ive needed ,Ive watched alot of videos .Im inspired by your knowledge of the game and your teaching.
Once your brain understands what the "downswing" is, your motions getting natural and athletic. The word downswing is missleading (in my point of view) cause the swing to the ball is a underhand throw which goes UP. If you try to hit down to the ball, you will never have it.
Every pitcher pronates when throwing…
Grats on the 100k subscribers, Mr Malaska.
If you're rolling over during the downswing, look at your backswing, odds are you're not taking the club back square, you're rolling in the backswing and compensating in the downswing
At 3:05, your palm is facing in front of you, not downwards as you claim at 2:33. You are not doing what you are teaching because it would be impossible. If it were, the face of the club and elbow at the top of the swing would be facing downward making the weirdest chicken wing. Just try it. What you teach simple does not happen 🙁 And no, one does not throw a baseball like you said. The kinetic chain is a succession of movement which go from the large articulations to the small ones. The small parts always follow the large parts.
Better add in some shoulder turn… you cannot get an inside out arc without getting the front shoulder to rotate back and under the chin…*backswing*– then getting the back shoulder to swing and rotate through the strike zone as you swing forward, down, and through the strike…( the SHOULDERS are the LAST point of connection of the fingers, then hands, then arm bones and elbows to the BODY itself… the body will pretty much move in tandem with the shoulders because it "has to")
The actual amount of addition of the wrists cocking or uncocking to impact is kind of "optional" and secondary…. as in adding feel to the impact… but, all in all, in my view, shoulder swing is the heart of a good golf swing….(look again at your own video here and watch your shoulders..)
Thanks Mike for all your Help, it's been all positive!
How can anyone take advice from someone who can't brake 80? Lmfao you know what makes you better? Absolutely nothing, if you don't have the physical ability you will never ever be good. There are no clubs no bs youtube video that will ever help you. Stop lieing to yourselves and realize you'll never be as good as you think you are. Golf is not a game for the untalented wanna be athlete. Bs videos or teachers do nothing
love it!
Wow, all these simple tips make such a huge difference .
My wrist was going up & down & not back and forth. No more cupping in the wrist & fades have gone
Thank you Sir
Hands will react or not to arms body relationship…
The rest doest not matter
Well said! I always show people what a curveball hand/wrist motion looks like. Then ask if they want to throw a curve ball or a fast ball.
Have to point out that what you're demonstrating with your right hand motion is clearly not what you're doing when swinging the club. Just look at 3:05 in the video. This may be what you feel, but not what is actually occurring. Maintaining vs throwing away right wrist flexion is not a minor issue. You clearly are maintaining more flexion.
Awesome explanation!! Thank you.
Ball striking will improve dramatically if you practice this wrist action.
This one principle has brought more significant change to my swing than any other in my 20 years of playing the game. I am so grateful.
Beautiful coach ..
Really helpful stuff.
Hand action looks simple without a club. When you hold a club though it's harder to reproduce that same feeling with a grip running through your hand. That's why the club face gets manipulated.
Great stuff. One thing i m not sure about is where the wrist hinge occurs in the back swing. Some say not until u r at the top of your back swing: bearing in mind each person has a back swing distance b4 the wrist hinges????
So true. Malaska method is pretty much the same as Tiger/Butch Harmon year 2000. I saw all the videos above. I feel my hips (back swing and downswing) getting out of the way (push back and push back force). I copied Tiger's back swing. (Similar to Malaskas) when I'm abt to complete back swing, I just move a bit my upperbody to the left and get my hands down club head out Malaskas move. And voilà, L to L finish and finally I'm hitting like Tiger.
Doing this steps all the other good things happen. I really don't think abt anything else than what I wrote above. Malaska is the best.
If my right hand flaps straight back, then my swing will be extremely flat, and I'll never be able to touch the ball.
Excellent tip. Do this and ball striking will improve quickly..
Mike great Instruction simple intuitive golf.
How can one get private lessons?
Very powerful lesson. Only 1 correct wrist hinge. The body reacts to the swinging of the club and the timing of the hit. Mike is teaching Henry Cotton and also truth. If I think body, its over.
I get at least 20 yards more swinging the club with my hands than belly whipping it with my hips or driving with my feet or legs or turning my torso/shoulders. They all come into play but in support of the hands swing the club. My ball contact is also much better than with the other methods which may account for some of the extra distance.
Any look at golf instructions forums will quickly make us realize that golfers don't agree on much. I've seen less petty arguments and disputes at my family Thanksgiving dinners. But we can agree that a good impact position has the hands leading the shaft and clubhead. So however fast you swing the clubhead you better be swinging the hands and handle quicker. Personally I focus on swinging the grip in sync with my rotating hips. The club shift is a constant and one of the few laws of consistency in the game of golf other than the stationary ball. Yes there is some torquing of the shaft but for all intents and purposes its a constant. So by focusing on the hand swing and path simply following my hip turn im able to avoid casting and clubhead throw away which causes me all kinds of issues. It fells like a smooth connection in my swing. Not the connection where my arms are locked in too tightly to my torso and I feel bound up but just more synchronization between my hands and body. The clubhead is always lagging in this scenario and I get into a very good open impact position. Just a thought that works for me. I also no longer feel the need to kill the ball. I definitely swing fast but no harder and faster than I can swing my hands. Much better balance of myself and also the balance of the club during the swing.
Excellent Sir. But but that action you state, doesn’t it make the left wrist sort of look like a scoop action at impact ? If we do the bowed fashion look like the gold world states then the wrists can’t perform your way ??.
At 3:05, watch in slow motion, the shaft is clearly rotating, toe up at parallel to ground, to square at impact, and toe up again in follow through parallel to ground. What Mike is demonstrating is what Jim Hardy calls an RIT release for the single plane swing, but then when he hits the ball, the shaft is rotating.
Your golf swing lesson is the most effective and should be taught by other golf instructors.
Thanks for the explanation. I still have a problem with right hand release and getting to L on the follow through.
Yes. This is the best way to swing. I has less thoughts (set up cues for me still in my conversion from "normal" instruction), less tension, control given to physics rather than "how to move your this or that". Swing the thing.
AS ALWAYS… very good
Mike You probably won't read this comment but I wanted to say "thank you" for emphasizing the key movement of the wrist is the hinge, so that you are adding club head speed when unhinging, in the direction of the target line/ ball flight. So my question is why do the vast majority of teachers seem to ignore hinge and instead emphasize wrist cock, which as far as I can see, is an action at right angles to the target line?
I have always read and heard that the dog wags the tail. This appears to be the opposite of that?
Play my best golf when I think of my hands getting to my lead thigh at impact. If I get out of that and try do some other crap I play crap I get stuck
I was taught that the hands should follow the body not the other way and it works for me!
