  1. Id also say one of the big reasons people struggle with fairway woods, is a bad swing plane. Particularly where players are attacking the ball too much from inside or under the plane. From this position you cant generate any kind of strike, and the strike is usually significantly in to out

  2. Great tip Mark. So many amateurs don’t have a clue about this and are scared to hit down, even on irons!

  3. Wishon 929HS bendable hosel Fairway metals; carrying 3w (15.5°), 5w (19.5°), 7w (22.5°) all bent to my flatter lie and higher lofts for carry-then-stop trajectories. Blends into my modern distance irons nicely, with the 5-iron at 23° at the top.

  4. My 3 wood used to be one of my better clubs, but we have fallen out lately 😆

Struggling with the ball coming out low and left.

  5. I love my ZX mk1 3 wood. It's the 13.5 degree strong 3 wood.
Great off the tee when a driver is too much club, but I'm more than happy to smash it off the deck into long par fives if needed!

  6. Thank you Mark I took this advice today at my club (Silloth on Solway) we are off mats but it seemed so strange to put the ball back in my stance and handle forwards but the results were fantastic I have a Ping G 400 5 wood and wow wow

  7. 4:58 gave me a "holy shit" kind of realization about my swing. Such a simple concept yet I've never heard or seen it demonstrated. Always have struggled with a slight slice (or terrible lol) with my 3 wood. I've never been able to hit a pure straight shot and this just clicked for me. Ball has always been to far forward in my stance!

  8. I'd love to be able to hit driver😂
my 3 wood is my Driver (no tee) which is around 260 metres off the teebox.
generally 5-8 metres less than my playing buddies "good" drives.
just picked up a callaway XR 3 hybrid that i can shape both ways so i don't have to carry a 13° 3 wood and a hook machine 5 wood😁

  9. Great tip. i finally got this working when I finally set up to the 3w about where I play my 5 iron. I basically imagine I'm hitting an iron.

  10. I’ve been trying to implement this method with varying results. One issue is I’ve now started hitting the turf behind the ball?

  11. The new Z Star XV would be an interesting review,, always enjoy your ball comparisons.

  12. I have a 16 degree 3 wood and I can hit it off the deck. My issue is it sometimes fades right. The part of this video about ball position will help me a lot, because that is a struggle of mine; not knowing where the ball should be in my stance. There are times where I hit a nice baby draw because the ball was in the right position and other times where it fades because the ball was in the wrong position.

  13. great video instruction thanks, i recall seeing the famous Snead v Hogan shell match , and seeing Hogan blast a 4 wood onto the green, he gouged out quite a divot like an iron rather than 'sweeping' the ball off the turf, in fact i think we average golfers have been told too often to 'sweep' the fairway wood rather than your advice ! cheers

  14. Mark, thanks a lot for this. Tried it today (granted only at the range) and I went from a fade no longer than my normal 6/7 iron to low, bullet draws carrying 200 total 230 with my 17 degree utility wood. That’s now my current driver range, tried the same with driver but got the short fade, weak shots but wow what a difference, thanks. Now I need to work out my driver to go further than my utility wood😂

  15. Great video Mark! For me the issue is playing the FW like the driver instead of more centrally located in my stance. This isa game changer – thank you!

  16. Tried this today with my 5 wood ( the 3 and 5 wood are the two that I struggle with) some improvement, I think I need it further back, great tips, I saw a few start looking a bit better.
