Soccer is FAR tougher! The players are so strong that the barest touch brings excruciating pain to either the shin or the face and the players are so tough that as soon as a whistle is blown they can ignore that tremendous pain and continue playing as if nothing had happened. You dont see that level of physical ability in NRL or NFL players.
They are both tough the differences are the rules to the game. Swap the rules to find out. Eg no high tackle, no tackling using your helmet etc…. play grid iron the same way with some rugby league rules and visa versa. I reckon it will save a lot of lives/injuries/casualties or whatever you want to call it.
And all I'm going to say is AFL
NRL does not have offensive & defensive sides the team does both for 80min
I played both but yeah it's definitely rugby hands down my injury from both sports speaks for itself still recovering from a broken wrist
Rugby is harder. Not just because of no protection. It’s continuous play and a third longer in terms of time. An American football has 60 minutes of play spread over a couple of hours or longer. Plus the squad size is larger with fewer on pitch players. Plenty of substitutions and rest periods by comparison.
Pads promote more ballistic hits at the speed that you would only do once in rugby as the injuries would be immense for both players.
A big issue for both sports is concussion. No amount of padding protect the brains rocking about in your skull. Same for rugby. Especially in rucks and mauls.
No sport is worth acute brain damage and/or early onset of dementia later in life.
Rules need to be changed quite a lot to combat this.
No one even hold back playing rugby league because of no pads ,that's a ridiculous statement. Just because that how they feel doesn't mean that's how it is.anyone who has ever played league know that.
ive played both and can can say rugby is much tougher the time and amount of stoppagesas well hands down its rugby,my old school tried getting a team of americian football players to have a short game of rugby would not do it ,quote no pads or helmets your crazy
Like both; but rugby is defintly tougher.
A.F.L. is the most demanding.
The comparison shoild be between rugby league vs union. Grid iron is not in their league of toughness
I'm a league man and cant stand NFL, a critical factor in their game is that each play is with minimal fatigue meaning every tackle or every run the players are fresh so they can go hard at it 100% every play. In saying that State of Origin is the pinnacle of beastmode for me, Mighty Maroons.
American football exists because of Rugby – fun fact
I call bs! In rugby league we don’t hold back!! You are either a man or play soccer. Show me a sport where blood is pouring from a player and he still wants to stay on the field?! Wear your helmets and pads, it doesn’t matter what you wear, this is war!!! We would rather die than lose. Australia/NZ and our pacific family don’t know any better! And our English brothers and sisters playing the game will tell you exactly that too.
Below the nipples for the girly men.
NFL players are far more athletic. I see a lot of "try playing straight for 80 minutes." You are forgetting that as time goes on, players get tired, so intensity decreases. The NFL has fresh legs in and out every play. So, every single play in the game is FULL intensity at the highest level. Nothing is more physical than the NFL. Not even close. Hockey would be 2nd. Then rugby.
An nfl field is only 92m long, 62m wide and goes for 60mins with too many stops in between.
Nrl players don't hold back at all
NRL
You failed to mention that 'Grid-iron', consists of two teams, periodically being changed over. Players spend half their game time sitting on their backsides.
Also, the stop, wait, ready , go, stop, measure, has it crossed the imaginary line?, CHANGE TEAMS, wait, wait, ready, go, stop, wait………….. mmakes it bloody boring to watch. With Rugby League, you're watching action for 40 minutes at a time.
I dissagree that if NFL players played without helmets that they's be tougher. It's exactly because of the protective gear that they can take risks. Rugby players mostly run/ram into you with shoulders or their arms. Common sense and self preservation will prevail. Rugby is the tougher sport handsdown.
NFL seems like they have more powerful hits…NRL more conditioned fitness. It’s a different game so you can’t compare them straight up.
NRL hands down… few players of 80min no stoppages… BUT…. NFL quarters of 15 minutes can go on for hours. If you then add 30-40 players on the bench some player get less than 2 min a game…
I think the only thing that makes NFL tough is the passes which are essentially hospital passes if defence gets through. The so called protective doesn’t protect at all only increases area of impact. But NRL I’d say is tougher.
