I did tip #1 last week on the range boy were my hips ever sore for 3 days, I guess I was doing it right. Good tip Mark.
Been doing these types of moves in speed training. It’s transformed my swing. Speed and strike. What’s not to like.
As a younger golfer I always had good hip drive, but my timing was way off during my downswing which resulted in a mean slice when I usually played. Now that I am a few years older and slightly wiser I figured the timing needed to change in order to put that power to good use 🙂
In order to initiate the hips first, on the back swing I turn my torso, the hips stop first the torso second then the arms and wrists, sorta like a coiled spring, when I'm at the top and feel the coil I release the hips and let the rest just happen, this works for me, with plenty of practice.
I tend to stiffen up as I get tired and I get SCLAFFY. This video should help.
Love how you explain this and it really does work and work well. Been doing this for about 4 months and my strike improved. it did take a while for me to figure out my new aim, but once I did the ball went close to where I wanted. Plus, my speed increased quite a bit, which translated into longer carry distances. I now have to go get a gapping test for all my clubs. What a great problem to have. Cheers.
Love this!
I had big distance success and better strike doing the preshot routine of wavering from left to right foot. Getting that loose feeling, lightening the grip and feeling the weight shift
Hmm, a new "dance" to try…
How do you advise keeping the hands behind as the hips fire forward. I find that the harder I turn my hips the more my club gets thrown out towards the ball, kiss of death!
I went to the driving range the other week and worked on pushing off my front foot so it moved back from the explosive movement. I was wearing my normal runners when I did this. The next day I went out to play 9 holes and noticed when I tried the same movements with my soft spiked golf shoes I couldn't get the same explosive movement because of the spiked sole. Do you think it would be beneficial to change the type of golf shoe to help get that certain feeling in my swing?
I'm worried that this will cause me to early extend (again).
Really one of your very very best videos! So great!!!
Marcus at Zen golf on YT has been teaching this sequence for years. Seems to solve most swing issues
I have a tendency to early extend.. would this be a good drill for that problem ?
Can see the excitement in your voice that it works. It’s a bit Matt Wolff and Molinari with the lead foot pulling back on downswing. I’ll definitely be trying it 🤣👍🏻 Still the best content on YouTube Mark
Kyle Berkshire does this in a huge way to hit BOMBS with his 230 + BAll speed!!! Mark Crossfield reaching 170 ….. COME ON MARK BURKSHIRE CROSSY, let's see 170 consistently!!!! 😁
that's assuming the student moves the lead hip properly already though. otherwise you're just reinforcing early extension or having the trail hip getting in the way early..
If I knew how I would do it!!!!
Srixon Q Star Tour and Vice Pro
As some one who has used the ground force plates it is frightening how much earlier you have to activate things to hit your maximum speed potential. these drills make sense
Great tip. When my right hip “hangs back” it’s no bueno. The further my right hip goes in the follow through the better the strike. Mark is the best instructor on YouTube.
Great video. I'm a 50 year old with a fairly stiff back, 3 handicap, trying desperately to do this but struggle. I have a net and record my swing. I like the alignment stick through belt buckles. I did have a couple of weeks standing 20/30 degrees open like Freddie couples/Willie Wilcox which really helped mid to shorter irons but I could not get on with driver. I found it hard to aim and it was not easy knowing how far forward or back to have the ball. I've now gone back square. Any thoughts on this? A video maybe? In the old days they used to teach you to stand open 100 yard pitch shots or less. Chipping was always open stance.
Keep up your good work. I've watched you for 4 years when I came back to golf and feel like you are currently at your peak again with a passion for teaching. Cheers
I have vertigo and it really effects my golf game some days. Especially putting.
Love the visuals Mark! The whole dynamic way of teaching body movement in conjunction with the golf swing is just awesome… It’s kind of amazing how much crisper your strikes tend to be lately and even miss hits aren’t all that bad for you.
I have been working on this for a while and it really works. I just need to get a bit more consistent! Practice, practice practice.
Just worked on a few of these feels this morning mark and gained 3-4 mph with irons and 4-6 mph with driver. Strike with irons was much more solid to. Felt effortless as well, thank you very much
Best video and the first drill is not only something I have never seen before which is unusual for YT but it 💯 works.
Cheers boss
MARK!!!!! Wish I could triple quadruple like this video. Going to take this to the range soon. Hope it doesn't ruin me, but right now the mental picture is vivid.
Bobby Jones did something very similar. He had a forward turn/left knee move as a trigger to start his swing. What is old is new . . . . Keep up the good content sir
Seen this 3d modelling (link below) for the first time ever today. Is this visualisation / manipulation tech something you have access to? You can describe golf like Brian Cox describes physics. I can understand enough to pretend I know. These visuals with you talking would be 👌 for distanced learning
Love you!

Are those shoes comfortable? I'm on the fence with those and puma ignite.
Those Srixon gloves are awesome especially for the price.
Mark, are you actively moving/rotating your hips or is it something that just happens? My hips are open at impact but if I try and rotate them thinking about doing it I either come over the top or get stuck and have to roll the club to square the face
Great video
