  1. Will have to try that. I found that a wide stance encouraged me to hit behind the ball as I was stuck behind it.

  2. Good stuff on the perspective of the instep and not just the feet being at hip width to create gateway. I'll try today. Cheers!

  3. Thanks Russell always insightful.
Would be great if you could explain compression in simple terms – break it down in terms of physics?
The ball compresses however we hit it, but I think compression is used to mean:
    1. Ball first with forward shaft lean at impact
    2. Centre strike
    3. Shallow path.

    Is this correct?

  4. Wonder what iron he was hitting? It looked like the ball was left of center or closer to the lead foot. However, that might have just been the camera angle. Perhaps he was hitting a longer iron that he would purposely play forward. Don’t know?

  5. Ok Russ, you pegged me. I think honestly this video was for me. My big question has always been how to keep the head back whilst moving the weight forward which is counter intuitive to keeping the head back and arms moving forward because my head via my shoulders is connected to my arms! So I am that guy who lunges forward at impact to ENSURE my hands are forward. Awful results but that’s what my brain says. I think something you don’t say that is also crucial is your hands exiting near your left thigh which for me – my arms are farther out and therefore FLICK to early.

I am grateful for the lessons you have given me and will continue them for months to come. Best ROI online of any online instructor.

  6. If you could answer the question exactly “how do your hands end up ahead of the ball whilst you head is back? Is it just a matter of “not releasing too early or is there something mechanical in my body movement that guarantees my hands are forward of impact? Maybe this is just habit for me. I still flick and release early and am very frustrated because I don’t understand the fundamentals of why I still flick.
