A shot-by-shot hickory golf course vlog featuring Long Island, NY-based hickory golfer Christian Williams playing pre-1935 hickory golf at Wequetonsing Golf Club in Harbor Springs, MI. Williams is a golf historian with a high handicap, sharing his passion for the game through this channel where he shows how to collect, repair, and play with antique, wood-shafted golf clubs. In this round, Williams, is using his pre-1935 “modern” hickory golf set featuring authentic 1920s and early 1930s golf clubs (details below). Welcome to the channel!

Joining Williams in this round is fellow hickory golfer and golf historian Andy Grow. Andy researches and writes about historic golf courses in Michigan as well as his travels overseas playing hickory golf in Scotland. Follow him on Instagram @hickories_and_links

Wequetonsing Golf Club (“Weque” to the locals) is one of the oldest golf courses in Michigan and dates to 1896. Details of its early history are spotty, but local newspapers report that in 1920, land adjacent to the original course site was acquired and an 18-hole golf course was laid out by Robert and James Foulis. Further improvements to the 18-hole course were made between 1920 and 1927, and the current course layout has been mostly unchanged since then with the exception of some adjusted tee boxes and improved drainage.

Weque is a private course during the summer months but opens to the public briefly toward the end of summer and into the early fall. Rounds during this public season can be arranged by contacting head golf pro Andy Bell: http://wequegolfclub.com/
