  1. I felt like those were the first and only game improvement iron that did all the g.i. things – distance, forgiveness, tight dispersion, hot face but somehow they engineered jumpers out of it.

I stopped playing g.i. irons because as I got better the help wasn't was as necessary but the jumpers came more and more.

When I was missing greens by flying an extra 22y past my club average 3 or 4 times a round I was over it.

I demoed these irons the other day just for fun and couldn't believe how they never ever had a crazy long jumper.

That alone is enough for me to put these in the only g.i club on the market I'd consider "downgrading" to.

  2. Brilliant Mark! The first reviewer on You tube to review any iron over the last few weeks and mention the fact it's the lofts that make the balls go further not any tech! 👏👏

  3. Mark, you nailed it! There are NO standards in lofts throughout the industry. Every manufacturer has juiced the lofts on all of their clubs. They need to get rid of numbers on irons and switch to putting “Degrees” on them!

  4. I was disappointed that Ping went all in on the jacked loft game…
Game improvement irons are so gimmicky.
I’ve hit them for years but switched to i230s. I still get forgiveness and my distance control and dispersion are so much better!
High handicappers need loft so they can launch high and hold greens. Distance doesn’t help you if you can’t control it… but it sells 🤷‍♂️

  5. I got these 45-5 reg graphite. Previously had call st max iron. Ping is so much better feeling and looking for me.

  6. Always enjoyed Ping. But the price increases the last couple of years I think will hurt them. Yes, right in line with everyone else’s pricing…….but they were known in the past for great performance and a price savings over everyone that does make ridiculous claims.

  7. Revolutionary set with 2 gap wedges. It's PW, then 45.5 and 50. 5 iron is 22 degrees, but not as bad as the Cobra Aerojet 5 iron which is 20.5 degrees.

  8. I've played exclusively PING for a few years now. I have the G425s, but recently got fitted into the Mizuno 923 hot metals (standard version). The fitter commented that I hit the PINGs fairly well, but need different shafts (mine were too flexible), grips (mine were too small), and lie angles (mine were too upright). But I decided on the Mizunos because….well I put it this way….."If I hit the heel, I want to be able to feel that….but I don't want to feel like killing myself when I do." When I hit those PINGS towards the heel side the feeling is that atrocious. And this is coming from a huge PING fan.

  9. I have been considering these. I currently play the G's and think maybe an upgrade would be in order. I will get fit but I am more of a Ping guy so these are probably in my wheel house. Probably only the 7 and up though

  10. one pet peeve I had with the G25 GI irons was that I saw the back of the iron when I set up. I don't see the back on the G400. How are the G430's?

  11. As someone who plays the Ping G iron (from the release when they dropped the number) they are equally as boring.

Both they and my G irons aren’t bad looking but in terms of looks the TM P790 and Mizuno Pro 225s fit into a similar category but are significantly better looking irons.

  12. I think they're missing a trick… Manufacturers are using the tech to create this amazing launch and forgiveness then decreasing the loft to call it 'longer' then you need 3 million wedges to fill the gap, maybe that's the sales ploy… Especially if you prefer a bladed wedge that doesn't have this tech.. just stamp a '5' or a '6' on it and enjoy the benefits.

  13. Mark – on one of your shorts with another iron set (Titleist CB's) you mentioned that moving from mats to the great outdoors will increase spin by about 500 revs. Is that fair across all irons when testing indoors vs. dirt?

And how much will that extra spin reduce distance from a % standpoint?
    Cheers

  14. Will you be checking out the Stealth HD irons? I’d like to hear your thoughts vs the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons. Thinking of getting a super game improvement iron set when Spring rolls around. ⛳️

  15. "The 7i is really a 6i". So true Mark.

As I play i210s, I compared the lofts of my clubs to standard lofts of G430. The G430 lofts are almost exactly one club stronger. So if you buy a set of G430s 6i-PW + 45 degree wedge, you have the same set as my i210s 5i-PW, with maybe a touch more forgiveness and slightly higher launch – in my hands i210s launch pretty easily, even the 5i, so the higher launch isn't interesting to me.

Mark is completely correct about Ping, they are boring…they only launch good clubs, never make the outlandish claims that others do. They can command a price premium because you know you will not be disappointed by your purchase
