One of the key aspects in placing your top hand on the golf club is getting the middle of the wrist (the snuff box) over the middle of the handle. If you approach the club with the hand in the wrong shape (flat or flexed) then it is a big faff to try and manipulate it over. Advanced players would intuitively prepare the shape of the top hand before they apply it to the handle.
