I'm playing Titleist 100S. They are good for me up to the 8 iron
Stop over thinking it..?? if you think there not for you, your mind is made up and you will make a more mistakes. Because your pre-routine is thinking about a miss-hit not where on the green you are aiming at or you strike. I hit the RF's and I'm a double figure handicapper (64 yrs old), and I love them. I focus on every shot (pre-routine), if I don't I do hit them toe or heel (get lazy). But that my problem not the clubs. Also my score only changes by 1 or 2 shots (total score) no matter what clubs I hit, so I stop blaming the clubs a long time ago, and stop changing clubs next time I got in a bad head space and now I play much better golf because I know where the issues are (it's always me, my swing, and we all can push through it & fix it). And you are correct, they are the best looking irons I have ever seen.
I think you should sell them since it seems the new club bug has bitten :). Nothing against the clubs just time for a change
Why aren’t you playing the Vega Irons?
They’re beautiful..on a wall 😂. Play the ping i525s. Great forgiveness but workable and look great.
Well I bought the PXG 0317st blades all black and they look so good but I probably shouldn’t be playing them so…… I do have the Mizuno 223’s in the corner just in case it gets crazy lol…. The RF’s are really nice looking for sure mite get a set and hang them on the wall lol
Put those things back to where you found them. They'll your life with misery and woe if you put them in your bag. Grab the Mizunos again.
If you think those are hard to hit get your hands on some mp33’s w/ x-1hunny shafts and get ready to hate life. 😂
send them my way!
Ah buddy I understand the issue. I have played for 12 years and 6 years ago I went to 2 sets for different times of year and honestly I play blades in the winter to focus on strike and the summer set are the forgiving set and fly more consistently for scoring. Winter is practice time. Keep the Cobras and get good at golf hahahaha…. Great vid
Just put the p770s in the bag or some apex pros
I am playing Titleist 718 AP3. Love them! I was playing the 2016 Big Bertha…and I hated them. Struck them well but they were so ugly
I definitely wouldn’t sell them , I think they are super cool clubs. Jus maybe not the everyday club
Changed from tm m6 to tm p790 . Love them so much more feel through the club face
Currently playing Ping i210’s and may eventually upgrade to the i230’s as I believe they may be a little more forgiving with the tungsten weights in the toe and heel. I’ve never understood people’s fascination with unforgiving blades – are those people also playing a 250 cc wooden driver with a steel shaft?
I play apex pro 19, need to get 6-P replaced by a blade. I’m catching too many flyers or little pulls off my short to mid irons. Sometimes I crank a 225 6 iron and I’m only playing for a 195. Puts me in really bad positions. Or maybe moving into the Callaway TCBs. I’ve heard the pro stock models have a softer face. Does anyone know anything about the “double dot” Callaway apex?
sell sell sell to me me me
Definitely a great looking set of irons! That 4 iron top line is a butter knife for sure. I'm currently playing the Callaway Mavrik irons because I need forgiveness as a 15 handicap.
The irons look amazing. I'm sensing a give away to your subscribers!?!?
Yes I play these in summer. But I do hit the rouge St Pro in winter
Cobra have never made a decent blade.
Great stuff James. Loving my T200’s
Those irons are absolutely stunning…but I’d be scared to hit em😂. Currently in the bag are Wilson Staff D9’s i got just before Christmas. I’ve only gotten em to the range so far, but the good hit look, sound and feel amazing…the not so good shots, not so good. But I’m coming from a set of single length iron, so it’ll take a bit to get used to regular length again
I play the Taylor Made Sim Max Irons I can't even imagine playing those tiny little blades but they seem to work for you James I would keep them in the bag but I I would also have a backup set of more forgiving irons
Mate. Get fitted for a set of takomos, the 101t's, put your ego away and become a better player.
I use the callaway dcb irons which for me are by far the best set I've ever played with so they'll be staying in the bag for 2023 and beyond
I just bought P790s. You should try the P770s. Ditch the Cobra's. Like you said, Ricky won't even play them.
Loving the content. Currently play a split set in the Callaway APEX range, 4-6 APEX Pro 7-PW APEX MB, love the forgiveness I get from the long irons, with my previous set being all blades from 4-PW.
I’ve played a lot of irons ,yes I did play ping g 425 ,and a lot of pings ,not to mention adams ,callaway, and cobras ,one length and same in normal length, and I did play to nine with pfg forged irons and Wilson driver killer whale ,and ping putter ,back then set up was driver ,3 wood ,1 iron to sw I had the worst slice that you will , ever see ,!my first game started at 16 hc 1986 ,and never improved,in 1990 for two years couldn’t hit under 100 ,because of my slice played a 3 wood from left to right 150 m on a par 3 ,wow ! I was using the old hot dot balls from Kmart ,$1.27 but being a traditionalist old player, loved the forged feel ,today I play the srixon zx5 irons, ping g430 driver ,Cleveland 4di ,5/ pw srixon irons ,50/56/sip core wedges, and a Mac daddy 60 ,and a ping putter ,!! 15hc I just love the srixon z5 ,long and consistent, and forged ,the best feeling irons that I’ve ever had. I guess that if I was to play mizuno irons which I never have ! Brand name ? But that’s just my opinion,30 odd years later ,I don’t slice any more, thank god ! But today I watched a lady golfer clean us up with a nice easy swing on our drives ! 17 hc ! Just love golf and really like your shows so thanks,George from down under cheers
Stick with them for a few months James at least until the soft winter conditions ease. If your still stood over the ball not sure what’s going to happen then you can get back into magpie mode and chase another shiny new set. I play Wilson D7 forged love them
James you can play these clubs. I'm a 7 hdcp and literally tonight i had a couple of friends over and shot a -3 and they were well into the positives. i also noticed a bit of a drop off with distance but that comes from me being tentative, being scared of a miss hit. so I typically slow my swing down and focus more on strike then distance. and i gotta say my ball striking is better then ever. I also played the the King forged MB's before and when in comparison to my eye look to be the same size with a slight less middle MB byes and a very deceiving top line they're basically the same club in my view. hope this reaches you. and good luck in the new year.
Blades are very difficult to hit James. I’ve always believed cavity back irons are way more forgiving.
Another informative video James
I’m currently using Cobra air x irons with graphite shafts that I was fitted for in march after a 12 year break from golf and I’m improving regularly.
However, whilst I was being fitted I was handed a different 7 iron to see about the shaft length or something like that but after hitting about 10 balls I really liked it a that’s stuck in my head ever since and the worst part is I can’t for the life of me remember what it was 😂
All I remember is it had a black line on the sole of the club 😊😊😊
Whichever your choice will be fine. Those blades are for the elite golfer my friend. And I believe people should play irons to the feel they want regardless of what they are. My TFD blades are soooo dated lol. I prefer those over Improvement irons strictly because of the workability they can provide "once" one has honed their skills to the feedback a blade can give. And for the casual round the T.A. 845s come out.
Very amazing video James. Golf is never perfect when you want it to be and stings when you dont want it to LOL! I use Ping G10 irons. From first swing they have been perfect to hit even when not a great swing. They have really let me enjoy the game! They and YOU also led me to my Ping ChipR!! Amazing wedge all the way out to 130 yards!! Keep up the great content 😁
I play MP-20 MB 6-PW, I love them. but for this season I will move to i230 for a bit of extra distance and forgiveness.
Currently playing pxg 0211 hit them great but came from mizuno jpx 900 forged and I really miss the forged feel
With your experience James, I know 100% that you know these were never the play. Sure they are beautiful, my Hogan Apex blades were beautiful too but it's irrelevant. Find me 10 pga/dp tour pros using a complete set of pure blades and then tell me you're as good as any of them. Perhaps these are the show pieces you take out once or twice a year for an Ambrose? Apart from anything else, the RF blades are categorically not as performant as the Mizunos you binned. Golf is a game of averages over a season or more, not one good 3 hole stretch on one day when you filmed.
These irons seem to have a notorious reputation as the hardest pure blades to hit consistently in the game. You need a bit of offset to square the blade to target line. I remember when Faldo was the best golfer in the world in early 90's and all the young junior golfers whi were very promising talents – their parents bought them cut down Mizuno blade irons??? They could not hit them well and all it did was give me a chance to compete with them. Blade irons are a hype, a pro marketing con. I've gone back to the Ping iblade irons from the Blueprint irons now. The only pro I could think could get on really well with these cobra copper blades is Jack Nicklaus in his heyday as his McGregor tiny blades are a tad similar with minimal offset. Thats my two cents – if anybody wants to add to that feel free. Lovely candid video again from the master guru James.
Very good video James, I am currently using ZX fours in rig steel love them from seven iron to PW sixes OK five can be a little problematic so I don’t often use it. I use my Cleveland launcher XL halo four hybrid instead although I choked on on it just a little.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever – keep the copper!
James has a very interesting swing and is getting more solid every time I see his videos. I must admit it is very difficult to follow the Pete Cowan method of not allowing any 'manual' hand arm manipulation to keep the clubface sqaure throughout the swing. I can tell James and I have very similar swing thoughts in our swings but his swing has a lot less loose moving parts than mine. But it is always such a plaesure to hear his explanation on things. He certianly has a wonderful passion and understanding of the game.
Titleist t100 is a nice middle ground
I'm a cobra fan and have been using a set of pro cbs for years ,those are a beautiful set of irons but if they don't work for you then maybe a change is for the best
If Cobra would produce these in a players distance iron with the same finish, they’d be the best selling irons of 2023!
Use Harrold Bird Pinsekers of the 80's🤔
I think you should keep playing them. It would be interesting to spend the year keeping all your numbers and then switch to a more forgiving set the next season. We are always told that playing blades like these will improve our ball striking and control. Only one way to find out and you are a good player, so the results might be very meaningful. I go back and forth between Tour Edge Exotics C721 irons (which are super easy to pay and hit) and the 1973 Ben Hogan Apex blades. The Hogans are tiny and incredibly satisfying when I strike them properly. To be fair, i play off a more forward tee with the blades but i just enjoy trying to get the right ball flight out of them. Keeps golf interesting and fun for me. Good video 🙂
Mizuno pro 225 are for you!😊
They are wall hangers. Buy a nice rack, put them up on the wall and enjoy them every day as it should be.
