This week we have seen the release of the brand new TaylorMade Irons for 2023… the New TaylorMade P770 irons, TaylorMade P7MC irons and TaylorMade P7MB irons… but many people are asking, where are the new TaylorMade P790 irons? In this video we discuss just where the new P790 irons are, when to expect a new set of TaylorMade P790 irons and also just what the TaylorMade P790 irons did for the game of golf and for mid handicap golfers and high handicap golfers everywhere! after the hollow body iron generation truly took off we then saw the likes of the Ping i500, ping i525 irons, cobra forged tech irons and even the Taylormade P790ti irons… the less said about those the better I guess!

  1. I have the P790 in my bag. I got them in the spring this year to replace the AP2-AP3 Combine set. A great improvement on the Titleist.

  2. I use these James and im off 7 I think they are awesome cuz I haven't got the fastest swing in the world 👍🙂🏌well done James

  3. I've got the original P790 the whole new you showed are gen2 as original has full Taylor Made name on back still love them I'm off 8 and they could easily take me lower. Think I would like a diff pw though

  4. I'm playing hdcp 15 now but I used to play 10-11 before I went on a golf hiatus because of work. I'm wondering which would be bwtter for me: P790s or P770s.

Could you do a comparative video please? Thanks.

  5. Hi James. Love your content. Not a golf expert but in my opinion limited improvement in irons and since titanium used in drivers very little improvement there as well. 34 degree 7 iron of 10 years ago travel still just as far as the latest model available. On drivers maybe a 10 yard difference which over 300 yards not really much of an improvement. Will love to hear your thoughts on my statements and maybe do a test of what l said.

  6. I'm a TaylorMade guy myself. I started with a cheap set of ping Karstens tsk or whatever. Than the TaylorMade RBZ first Gen. To now I have the Burner XDs 5-lw. Someday I'll have a better set but for now the irons I have are great for me. As I work on the golf course as a greenskeeper here in MN

  7. James I think you are better off looking at the Takomo 101s for less than £500 new rather than a first gen P790 second hand. The 101s are a mirror image of P790s with similar lofts, head size and offset and are gorgeous to hit.

  8. I had a fitting and tried the offerings fron TM, Cobra and Ping, but settled on Callaway Apex DCB. £500 for 6-GW from Callaway pre-owned. If they had been used, there was no sign of it. Absolutely as new, and 14 days no quibble trial period too. I knew what spec I needed from my fitting, and was lucky enough to find my set in exactly the right spec. Even though I'm a 70 year old mid handicapper, they absolutely fly. When I hit them properly that is!

  9. You can buy brand new tour edge C523 irons for about $100 less. They feel great and perform great as well. Easiest irons I’ve ever hit.

  10. I spent 2.5 years wanting for a set of 790s. Found a guy in 2020 that got them, didn't like them, had to get rid of them. $850 for a set of the 2019s that had been played 5 times. I may never buy another set. Love these irons!

  11. You're definitely not wrong. You'd be hard pressed to go wrong with just about any set of P790s

  12. I. Had the originals and got rid of them because of the feel and flyers. The flyers were caused by the foam that would deform then pop back. A clue about the odd release of the P790 – check out the lawsuit brought by PXG against TaylorMade. Just bought the P790s again. Love the feel and performance. Flyer problem supposed fixed by the new foam.

  13. James your title scared me a little I’m not going to lie. I bought the new P790’s this time last year and they’re amazing. Some of the best irons I’ve ever bagged.

  14. Was fit into the current P790's back in June. I had the RSI's in the bag previously. Was a struggling 17 handicap golfer and have managed to shave 3 shots off my handicap since then. Absolutely loving them and cant wait for my first full season with them in the bag.

  15. I was lucky enough to order and purchase the limited edition black gen 1 p790 with the black KBS shafts when they first and I love them and will never get rid of them

  16. I got the 21 edition P790s 4-pw about a year ago now. I bought them on Facebook market place from a guy who won them in a raffle and couldn’t get on with them. He sold them to me for £600 and have not looked back since, love the feel through the clubs, including 8-pw which are slightly mor bladed.

The only down side is that if I hit them too well they can come out hot adding 20y to what I was wanting

  17. Got fitted for 790's a year ago and love them, the feel off the face is fantastic and would certainly recommend them

  18. I had these for a month after coming back to golf after 30 years and found then absolutely rock hard off the face but I did play blades. I don’t know how anyone can call them soft, I’ve changed to mizuno 921 forged and they are much better

  19. im fitted for them i like em im not a high handicap or a pro i play between 6-8 but you're right about the fliers .. had 165 par 3 and 8 iron went about 185 but thats really the only shot that flew too far

  20. I just bought the 2019 version of the P790 (the older ones that you have in the bag). The clubs are awesome !!! The OG version is the club with Taylormade written on the back of the club. The 2019 version just has the TM logo. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

  21. You were showing generation 2, not generation 1
Gen 1 had a full Taylormade logo on the front. Not just the “T”

  22. Hi James, tried both existing p770 and p790’s and must say the p790’s club head felt better balance with my particular swing, shaft combo fitted with stiff neo green shafts gave a lovely balanced club to use.

I don’t know how this happens? If there is a difference? As they are marketed with the same ‘tech’ maybe the design ie, tungsten in certain places makes a difference? Who knows.. lol. 😊
