  1. Gee, I’d love to have your adverse winter conditions. I’m looking out the window at -12C and 8” of snow😢. Welcome to Canada, eh.

  2. In my regular 14-club bag, I too break the rule of NOT carrying 2 different clubs that go the same distance – and I too break it with an 18-degree 5wood & an 18-degree hybrid – for me, the 5wood is very high and the hybrid is mid/low. My 9-club Sunday bag is <Driver, 4-hybrid, 6/8/9/PW, 52/58, Putter>. My 4-hybrid is a #4 22-degree Taylormade GapR Hi, which I play open/de-lofted at 20.5-degrees with a nice heavier Steelfiber i110gram X-flex – serves many roles.

  3. Great video mate. Very interesting. I always tend to club up more in the winter. For example if I was 75 yards out it would normally be my 54 degree but in winter I will choke down on a pitching wedge to concentrate more on the strike rather than forcing one with the softer ground. My Chipr came on Saturday and I absolutely love it. Surprised how heavy it was. Got up and down with it 3 times yesterday. Great around the green but I actually loved it from about 35-40 yards. Straight at the pin every time. Consistent strike. My new fav club

  4. My winter bag is rain cover on and stored indoors. Can’t play here with frozen ground and snow. The sweatshirt and hat are really great!

  5. I carry all year, so my bag of 14 doesn’t need to change. Initially, I could only make 10 holes before getting tired, so invested in a push trolly. As my stamina improved I gradually dumped it off. Haven’t used it for over a year now……and I’m older than you, Andy. Winter bags, like lunch, are for wimps. One thing about being a higher handicap player playing a tight course, my bag gets lighter as the round progresses! 😂

  6. I have been using what I call my travel bag of clubs; a half set more or less. It takes up less room in my vehicle and is easy to carry if I can't hire a cart/ push cart in the country courses. The bag is a light weight Cleveland carry bag. I have Cleveland Hibore Driver, Cleveland FL3W 17 degree ( 4 wood), a Wilson Fy-wood 19.5 ( similar club to the Hy-wood), Cobra F7 4-5 Hybrid, a single length 7 iron ( 33 loft= similar to many 8 irons) , Tour Edge iron -hybrid PW ( 44 loft) , Single length SW 56 loft. If I am playing a course with hard sand bunkers I put in a 60 LW/ 04 bounce. If I am playing a sand green course I take out the 56/60 and put in a Wilson chipper. In general I can play pretty well with less clubs.

  7. seems like a waste at the top of bag, you can just use a 3 DHY instead of the 4 DHY and the HYwood.
I also carry an 8 club bag often…putter, 56 Full toe, PW/8/6/4i, 7W and Driver. My driver has a 3W shaft though so it's a lot more versatile, I have hit it full out 270 or little bunt cuts about 230-240y.

  8. This video very similar to a recent one you did about dumping a particular club ptimarily due to the weather. As I previously commented, I don't change my clubs but I DO change to a softer ball. For me the Callaway Supersoft works well, but for others with faster swing speeds a ball with a bit more compression would likely work better. The main thing to me is to go softer than a ball used in warmer weather.

  9. My winter bag is clubs put away and they are here sitting in the bedroom closet as there is 6 inches of snow on the ground and it just snowed this weekend

  10. Hi Andy love your show. Unfortunately I can't play outside winter golf like yourself. I live in Canada. I also find that when I need to do a 3/4 swing ii find that maybe clubbing up is probably a better option.

  11. Not winter here in OZ thankfully … Have a similar setup in the fact that I have 2 clubs with similar loft … Got a great deal on new SIM DHY so got 3-4 & 5 (hate hybrids), but have also kept my Mavrik 7 wood in the bag … The 4 DHY & 7 wood give me versatility even with similar lofts, which is what this game is all about … Growing up playing sand greens made being able to play multiple shots with every club just part of the game & became second nature.

  12. I make no changes for winter, I don't really see the point, when I'm swinging well my clubs perform and the weather doesn't really change my needs. I will add my biggest issue is cold hands… I do use hand warmers in the winter. BTW…if you are riding why does weight matter? If you want to play rounds with reduced # of clubs I do see benefits, but nothing specific related to winter. Practicing 1/2, 3/4 shots is useful all the time.

  13. Current winter bag, driver (12 degree loft), 18 degree hy-wood, 21 degree 7 wood, 6 hybrid, 8 iron, Cleveland Smart sole 3 wedges (42, 50, 58 degree) and putter.

  14. Winter Golf is fun, cold, wind and some times rain ever snow…but the big difference is the balls don't seem to want to go as far….I find it is best to club up one or two clubs with the same swing and keep warm….Thanks…Oh about the only clubs difference I do in winter is carry more long irons instead of 3 wds or HYB….gound is too hard for them so a sweep swing works best for me…..

  15. During the Winter (north of Chicago), we play INDOORS (at the X-Golf simulator). In fact, we played there this morning, with outdoor temperature of 34 degrees and a forecast calling for 2-3” of snow tomorrow

    … yes, SNOW!!! 🥶

So I bring a lighter bag as well in the off season:
    a driver,
    a 5-wood,
    two hybrids (a 5 and a 3),
    four irons (7, 8, 9 and a PW),
    two wedges (a 52 and a 56)
    and a putter.

I could probably get away with just one wedge (the simulator doesn’t know), but I want to get better at them and the simulator gives me good feedback (spin, etc).
I could also probably get away with just one hybrid too. 🤷🏼‍♂️ But, yeah… try different shots, flight it down, make it check up, etc.

  16. Andy, I tend to split my in approximately 25 yard increments so putter, sand wedge on a full shot is 100yds, AW or GW depending on the set, 9i, 5i, 3H or 5wood, 3wood, and Driver go in the Sunday bag.

  17. When I played Elland in West Yorkshire my winter bag was very different from my summer bag. I now live in Thailand so it will be staying the same.
