THIS $500 DRIVER Is Now JUST $100… But WHY!? When we see new driver releases we always think that the technology must be the best yet! They must be the longest driver, the most forgiving driver, the best driver of the year? In this video I take a look at a driver from almost 10 years ago which promised to be the latest greatest golf club ever and the technology would change the world of golf clubs as we know it… just for it to be dropped a year later and we moved on… let’s do it and let’s do it now!

Hopefully it's coming back!
marketing needs fancy words. tour, speed, face so they can sell distance that dosen't exist or dispersion that varies from day to day. when you don't get either you need lessons. when you get those it's the club. Santa 🎅 still visits my house in December.
You should do a video on Nike SQ Driver from 2008. 15 Year Technology. Why Square Driver didn't work?
suiiii
I wonder if maybe the Big Bertha name had something to do with it? Pretty much all of the Big Bertha lineups over the years have had a stigma of game improvement attached to them, so perhaps, as good as that driver was, better players just steered away from it because of the Big Bertha tag?
Golfer's vanity
btw I game callaway ft 5 or the 9 depending on my mood. I have multiple of each. 29 to 44 usd. I only buy the premium ones.
Reminds me of Captain America's shield 🤔
I had this driver! What a piece of crap!
The double black diamond model was supposed to be for high speed low handicap players only. Ultra low spin and not forgiving at all.
Double black diamond is still available in the current Rogue. There was never supposed to be a big market for this.
Can you do a video on the taylormade P770 2 iron? The website is not listing it as a UDI or anything, just says 2 iron
Didn’t titleist have one where the rod was horizontal?
The gravity core progressed into the jailbreak. They realised that attaching the crown and sole together gave increases in ball speeds.
The new big birtha clubs coming out shortly I personally think there going to be the best woods and irons for all kinds of golfers but I already know one iron cost just over £400😂 so an iron set is going to be close to £2.5k and that’s without the woods🫣 so my guess the driver is around £500/600 🤷🏻♂️
There's your answer of modern clubs vs old stuff from the 80's and earlier — the high "toey" shot at 7:35, heck, he'd have barely made contact with the driver heads of yesteryear
I have that driver in my shop thanks for the video I'm thinking of pulling it back out and comparing it to my stealth thanks James
I can guarantee it's not coming back next year. Next year's Callaway driver will be quite revolutionary.
The problem was that almost everyone suited CG low, so it was useless tech but cool, like the gravity port thing in the Cobra LTD
But too technical for the average golfer like myself, we have shaft settings etc the core just adds another differential to the equation…keep it simple..very interesting video james
I believe that jailbreak technology came out the next year.
have to give it to the manufacturers for constantly trying new things. lots of experimenting in the last 15 years.
That price is for a fair condition used, isn't it?
I thought the Taylormade M2 driver was the best driver ever made and is still competiitive, It had a nice feel to it. A bit head heavy so you could feel it. Still have it too.
My buddy switched from that BB Alpha to the epic Flash 2 years ago and gained 20-25 yds. Alpha did nothing but hit balloon balls. He’s an accomplished former college golfer too. So it wasn’t a swing change.
You got the gravity core wrong. Heavy portion towards the sole is more forgiving and more spin. Still have this, and it goes nowhere.
The weight higher moved the cg closer to the face causing the low spin. That’s why the SLDR was so low spinning. Weight forward. But gosh forbid you hit it off center.
Just picked myself up a 2018 rogue for £90 off eBay as an upgrade for my 2014 x2 hot. Came with a £100 upgrade shaft in – guess that’s a win
Jame..You do some great reviews and finds on clubs that one can buy for much less money then there were marketed for..Would you also include the URLs of these site for us American Fans…..Thanks….
I had a square Nike driver. Never got on with it. Probably still in my basement somewhere.
Think noise is bit loud should try nike square driver that sounds horrendous and loud
I owned that driver a few years, but with the Fujiyama shaft. Easy to hit, but way too much spin. Maybe it was the shaft? I switched to the Epic Flash and gained 15 yards, same weight and flex shaft. The driver looked great too. I wasn't a fan of the sound. It's fairly loud and more of a metallic clank than than a thwack. That said, it was a fairway finder. Very forgiving. A great club for a mid to high handicap golfer.
The various tech only matters for shaft, forgiveness, workability and trajectory.
All conforming drivers are capped with a COR of 0.85. Meaning if a ball contacts the face at 100 mph its bounce of the face can not exceed 0.85 or 85 mph.
I heard the driver kept complaining about the rod stuck up its bum. So they got rid of it.
Stick with my stealth for a couple of years then see what technology comes out in the future 🏌👍Well done James 👏
I still game this driver today. The only reason people give up on this driver is that marketers want to sell you new drivers.
