Making changes to your Winter golf bag set up means so tough decisions, so I remove one of my favourite golf clubs of 2022?

I look at swapping out my TaylorMade 9 wood for the TaylorMade DHY long iron.

  1. I am changing a lot to the bag. I am changing irons. I am pulling the 3 hybrid out of the bag also may be pulling the 60 degree. I am doing a reveal on the channel on what Irons I am getting because they play longer and make the hybrid inefficient. I used to play a epic 7 wood but I replaced that. Love the content.

  2. I personally dropped the 4 iron and replaced with a 22* hybrid. I carried a 7 wood (22*) and a 4 iron (23*) for the past 2 seasons. I have had some issues getting good form with the 4 iron so dropped it. Simply use the hybrid on holes where I need to keep it lower and run where the 7 wood I use on high soft shots.

  3. Andy, what good sence you make.
    I carry a Taylormade 9 and 7 woods.
Viewing your video I will certainly try out the 4 DHY iron enabling me to rest the 9 wood during the winter months…. Keep up the good work on the videos!

  4. In the winter around the green I tend to use less the wedges and more irons such 9 – 8.For rainy conditions, with the wedges, my swing is too steep and I take deep divots, instead by chipping with irons I brush more the grass and the swing is shallower

  5. My bag stays the same all year as I quit playing when it gets pretty cold air I get walking pneumonia almost every year as my lungs can't take the cold any more , so I only play about 6-7 months a year !

  6. I find that the lie dictates the club especially at this time of year when the only good lie is on the tee or the green. As a 14 hcap I don't care whether I get left a 50 yd or 30yd chip, it's the putting that counts.

  7. I did exactly the same thing a couple of months ago but it was because I prefer the shape of an iron behind the ball but unfortunately the cost of the DHY’s are out of my budget so I opted for a Macgregor Mactec X 21 degree and it works on the tee and from the short stuff (if I’m on it 😜).

  8. Not for me. No need to when I’ll mostly be playing Toptracer golf at the range.

  9. I currently have 6i and then 3 hybrid. There is a gap to be filled this winter. Candidates are (at the moment) TM DHY 4 or the new 23˚ Mizuno 2023 Fli-hi hybrid. Will be an interesting comparison of the two. Left 5i out of the bag few years ago.

  10. I'm using 3h(19), 7w(21), 4h(24) 5 iron
The 4h vs 5 iron is as you said for flight height or lie @180 ish. I tend to use 4h more.
3h for lower boring flight 200-220, won't stop though.
7w for landing nicely at around 200.
    Driving around 240.
It works really well for me.
No 3w so never get tempted into really long green attacks over 200.
Clubs lower than 16 degrees off the deck are generally not my friend.

    Seed01 in summer
    Seed15 in winter.
By the way evnroll putters are brill.
I'll never get rid of mine.

  11. I do change my clubs for winter, due to increased wind and no roll conditions. I found with my single length irons that I had to get a good strike to get any distance increase with the 6 iron compared to the 7 iron ( Arccos data) , then I noticed the 7 iron started to bunch up closer to the 8 iron. To remedy that I put a same lofted hybrid-irons ( Tour Edge E521) into my bag for more carry distance. To deal with shots into the wind I use a 19 degree single length Hybrid ( Cobra F9). It flies lower than the average Hybrid and is easy to shape shots, chip near the green, punch out of the trees etc. I find it carries about the same as my 22 degree Hybrid ( not in my bag now) , but in summer runs a lot more. I tried an older driving 3 iron, but i was erratic with it.

  12. My 19 hybrid and one of the wedges will go for winter. However the hybrid is going to be replaced by a 7 wood

  13. WITB out is my 15 degree 3W a positive summer with the 3W, the 5i gone and 5 Hybrid won a place after GIR from 175-190 yards.
7W Stays at my local course is very hilly but 7W still makes 210-225 Yards.
I gap each clubs distances my bag every month with my R10 anyway as biggest non constant is me !

  14. Man this guy belongs on the discovery channel. He's pretty good at making simple things a huge dramatic problem and takes several minutes to get to the point.

  15. You my friend are my bag set up consultant !!! The Ping Chipr will be on the bag no matter summer or winter. The problem I am having is finding a 9 wood in a lefty Club. I would also like to play the DHY which I'm sure they make in a left handed club. I am looking for the 175 to 185 club and would play both if they work. I play in Northern California where winters can be wet and windy. While Summers are warm mostly, I live near San Francisco so I can play alot of coastal wet heavy temperatures in the 50s during summer. As well as a 30 to 1 hour drive to 85 – 90 deg ball flying very well and easy. This can be in the same week. It feels like if I hit both clubs like in the same week all year. I have no problem using different bag setups. So with you help I have made an appointment this Sunday to see if the numbers will match and be good year round. Perhaps they both work or neither do and the fitter will find 1 or 2 clubs that give me what I'm looking for. Whatever happens I feel like the last problem area in my bag will be solved and a big thank you Avg golfer for making these videos that cover real avg golf issues. Please keep it up, and I'm telling you other avg golfers to get the Ping Chipr or the Cleveland chipper and start saving shots now!!!! My 3 putts have been just about a thing of the past the last 6 weeks!

  16. I debate all year long between 7 wood, 3 hybrid and 4 iron. I find my 4 iron is a club I have confidence in and it is my utility club for hitting low running shots. So it's 7 wood or 3 hybrid? I also juggle in and out my 60 degree wedge, which I rarely play and just don't feel confident with. For me, it just depends on the course, weather and how I feel that day.

  17. great video….I have the 3 and 5 DHY clubs and LOVE them….looking at getting the Titleist TSR2 4 wood and 7 wood also…clubs are away for the winter we just got a foot of snow….farmers need the moisture this winter so its all good…..hope to be golfing in March of 2023…saving up for those woods till then…. Have a great day Andy and stay safe….cheers from Canada

  18. You need 18 clubs that you can
substitute depending on the condition and which course you play that day.

  19. My 5 wood is a Cobra FlyZ and usually sits at 20°. I'm cranking it down to 17° for the coming months… SmartPad sole design is pretty great…

  20. Driver 3i 6i 9i 50° and a putter. Following your ethos, I used my high handicap power bats (rather than MP60's). Including an 8 on a par 4 – and a 20 mile an hour breeze (30 kph). I shot my second best round 85. I suspect I may even break 80 next time.

  21. I'm taking out my 2 iron and putting in a 5 wood. Also fitted for new irons to bed them in over the winter.

  22. Bag goes from 12/13 clubs to 6/7, this depends on the weather. The surprising thing is I score the same, only difference is we play lift, clean and cheat during the winter conditions.

  23. Funny, I've gone the other way, dropped my 5-7 wood an hybrid an put my 5i 6i back in bag an now hitting very very sweet…only 17hcap 63yrs an v v happy

  24. I think based on the time of year, you make club adjustments to accommodate the course conditions and how you are hitting the ball and what appeals to your eye. I like to be flexible so if it works for that day's conditions I change. By the way Andy have not heard you with any videos on your swing change?

  25. You would laugh at my bag Tony. All hybrids and woods expect for a sand wedge and two chippers of different lofts. Hybrids are Ping G 425 and Woods the same. Ball is the Callaway Supersoft. Love the pink ones and they are so much better than they used to be. They hold green well now. Thanks to some help from the Dow Chemical company and Callaway team up.
