I discovered a new way to learn the downswing that will improve your golf swing and ball striking faster than ever before. The golf swing is very consistent and powerful when you can get the downswing on the proper path. This new technique ensures that golfers of all skill levels can have a simple, repeatable golf swing that gets great results shot-after-shot.
In golf lessons, I was working with students who struggle with the downswing and they really wanted to improve their ball striking – but they felt like they couldn’t get the downswing correct. To make the golf swing simpler, I came up with this new way to learn the downswing that makes it easy for any golfer to get repeatable and amazing golf ball striking with every club in the bag – from irons to driver.

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

What if you are too shallow “picker” with basically a 0 +-1 with a club path 5-8 in to out
Great lesson!! What will it cost to fly you out and give my son lessons?
TS !
If you are already in the slot, why is there the need to shallow your club, I’ve never heard you speak of shallowing the club
I've always found it difficult to get the same feel with the golf club than a bat, as a former baseball player, I'm curious on your thoughts whether it helps get that feeling with the fatter grips..I noticed you're using a big grip. The hand alignment is different with a bat than a club.
Just tried this, my feeling was that the logo of my glove wipes across the inside of the ball (my side of the ball) it squares the face ridiculously cant wait to hit the course with this feeling
Went straight to the range after watching this and in about 3 swings got a totally different feel/result. Much better, more consistent contact and ball flight. I played a lot of baseball in my youth, but never used the "shallowing" idea for golf. It really worked. Another great video.
Good video Tom. Also noticing how the baseball player's head doesn't move at all either, just like golf should be. As for me, lately I've been working on squeezing the elbows together at the top of down swing and only thinking about rolling the elbows/upper arms through impact. Seems to work well, especially with driver. Would you recommend that swing feeling?
Love the launch monitor data. What system are you using? Keep trying to spread this information, we all need the reminder or the new information
another great heads up for the right feels tom, thankyou, it would be
even greater to see your name pop up on a few golf tourneys also
,you have more than enough talent to compete and do your stuff ,
👍🙂
I am a fan of your swing philosophy as well as your videos which are informative and entertaining. I have recently been switching to the stack and tilt method based on your videos and believe this is the best method for amateurs. Keep up the great videos.
I want some more course vlogs! Loved your first two
Been looking at nets to practice….really like the one you use. Can you tell me where I can purchase one like yours… seems nice & sturdy. Thx
I think one thing I noticed was how much hip turn you have. I think that must help in allowing you to shallow. I feel newbies often swing over the top because they don't get their hips out of the way and there is no place for their arms to go.
Dont give too much away now.. i need to win a few matches first lol
Doesn't shallowing the club move the swing plane?
Tom say's " Play the best golf of your life". I'm doing exactly that and having a blast. My buddies can't believe it, 77 yesterday because I practice what Tom teaches.
I've been a Saputo-golfer for a few years now (from back when you were rocking the 'Elvis' look), but it wasn't until this video that I noticed you using a ten-finger grip. Have you always used that grip, or was it just for this baseball-related video? I like a ten-finger grip; it's what I learned with. I only abandoned it when I became a 'real' golfer.
What size grip is on that club you are using? And are all your clubs fitted with that size grip?
Thank you so much tom for teaching me this video. I really appreciate it and you’re one of the best golf instructors that I’ve ever had I’ve been mashing the ball crispy, KFC mashed potatoes. I really hope you can make a video of how to hit long irons and Woods. Thank you so much
Excellent Tom. Finally I understood how to shallow the club in the downswing. Nice golf setup with the launching machine. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼⛳️
Loving my baby draw with my new Saguto swing. ⛳🏌🏾
Quick question what are using for your simulator for yard ages etc
Great video. Been watching your YouTube for a couple of months now and it’s helping my game a lot. Thanks Tom
My first wife always said I was shallow….is that the same thing? 😀
I know it’s your superb show but may I make an offering?
I found this out for myself but there is an important change in the way your wrists move!
I’ve gone away from rotating the wrists to a movement that is similar to beating a rug. Or say slapping. Imagine hitting a hockey stick. You wouldn’t rotate your wrists.
This not only takes a shallower and longer divot ahead of the ball but also keeps the club face square in the impact zone for longer!
Plus it’s easier to shallow the club.
I not only hit it further but also I have lost my left hook.
Plus!!!! It helps to create forward shaft lean!!
Not many trainers mention the wrists.
this baseball type swing is a great practice for someone of my age Tom i can do it anywhere inside in the warmth of the house thanks buddy
I'm sharing this with my softball buddies. I'm also telling them, Young Kershaw has a great golf tip.
Love the theory and the swing thoughts, but there’s no “actual” face on a baseball bat. Don’t necessarily need to square up the face of a bat.
BEWARE OF THE SCAM COMMENTS SAYING YOU HAVE WON A PRIZE ☘️🇮🇪🏴👍
Hi Tom. When I watched that baseball player I noticed his right arm at the top was almost horizontal. I think in golf they call that a flying elbow. I assume that helps him get power? Something I also noticed watching you swing was that your club head stays outside your swing plane in the follow through. I think my club head comes inside, could that be why I hook? Thanks.
I've been taking too much loft off the driver it's driving me crazy good strikes that don't sniff the top and the trees guess a 14° driver is the future
Do you have extra fat golf grips?
The trail elbow returning to the side of the body is a large part of the shallowing. IMO One can really see it in the baseball swing.
The trail leg bending down also…..which is part of the lead hip clear.
This is hard to take. I've been taught my whole life that you DO NOT use a baseball swing. I first saw this on a video made by a Japanese man with English subtitles last week. I haven't been to the range yet because it has turned cold. Maybe I'll try it in the backyard.
just home from a fourball with my buddies shaved 7 strokes off my score today you're the man 👨 Tom thanks maxi
Nice color of the bat
Love your explanations and demonstrations. I’ve been doing many things wrong for so long that it doesn’t always hold up on the course although at times there is improvement. I have one question that has nagged me for many years maybe you could address— what is the need for a back swing in golf ? You compare the golf swing to a baseball swing- there’s no back swing in baseball and the ball is moving all over at up to 100 mph. In golf we are trying to hit a stationary ball. My question is why can’t the golfer just start at the top of the back swing in the proper position and swing forward just as the baseball hitter does? This would seem to eliminate the part of the golf swing where many of my troubles begin- the back swing. Also since there is a stopping point in the back swing this seems to indicate there’s no need for it in the first place. Your thoughts would be appreciated-THANKS
@sagutogolf Using the baseball analogy, what direction would the golf ball be coming at you from and what direction are you trying to hit it? In baseball, the ball is coming from 90-degrees from the direction you're facing and you're basically turning 90-degrees to hit the ball back in the direction from which it came. In golf, since you are bent over, from where would the ball be coming from and where would you be trying to hit it? Would the ball be rolling on the ground from down the line? Or would it be traveling up through the ground towards you?
