Let’s be honest with one another: we’ve all had the thought of donating the whole bag to the nearest trash can once in our game. Working through a tough stretch where your disc golf game feels out of wack can be one of the hardest things to overcome. Whether it’s been a few bad rounds in a row, or several months of tough sledding we all face some rough patches in our journey.
I wanted to take a few moments today to go over some tips and tricks I’ve used to work through hard times in disc golf. These are some of my go to tactics when I feel like I can’t stop playing bad golf. My hope is they can help you out of the rough patch you’re in right now! What are the tips?? You’ll have to watch to find out!!

Wow! I needed this! Thanks for posting. Wanted to quit disc golf yesterday on hole 7.
Robbie, instant classic! First, Overthrow and the Birdie Fam, pure gold advice (great meeting Josh and Mike in Charleston). Second, great content effects, you always mix it up and I love that about your content (Nice layup, dude!) I really need to get out and play some putter only rounds, challenge accepted and continue to work my putting.
Could I get Mike Strauss contact info please?
Air bud would cruuuuush. Not actually an insult.
I only play for fun; never stress about score. Sure, birdies are awesome, but if I’m not having fun I just stop, chill and check out some nature or watch other players throwing for a while, and then step back up to the hole with proper perspective 😁.
Too much stress in life to ruin a fun activity like disc golf with stress.
Best Birdie ever!
The no dodo on the tee pad comment almost made me spit water on the computer. Need a warning next time!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I truly appreciate how much emphasis you place on the mental aspect of the game as it can make or break your round. At the end of the day, it should be fun but it's easier to have fun when you're performing up to your personal standards 😅. Great video!
I thought of something I do that seems to help me when I’m going through a hard time while playing disc golf. I think back to a time when I was far worse at disc golf, and I think about how much better I’m doing now even though I’m not playing my best. 2 years ago I couldn’t dream of getting a par on this hole let alone have any chance of giving myself a birdie. That helps me. I don’t know who else it might help, but I wanted to throw that out there.
That’s not the real Josh. He would’ve said “welcome… BACK”
I think another good option is play a best shot round with a buddy just for fun. Takes the pressure off scoring and makes it just fun and you can try some different things. But that’s just like my opinion man.
Very good advice Robbie, love all the videos. Keep it up with the great videos. I told my buddy who was getting frustrated while playing, to try going back to the basics and not to try anything fancy or risky.
One thing i have found that works for me personally is pick 1 positive thing about the throw/putt and hold onto to that, then instead of getting upset about the thing that didnt go correctly i just tell myself to fix it. While keeping in mind the thing i did correctly as not to over fixate on the part that was incorrect
the quick shade at the Zone was *chefs Kiss*. I bag a zone and idc, that was just funny

My first putter only round really changed my game for the better. It took me 1+ years playing disc golf before I tried this. I then mixed in mids and later 7 speeds. Got me to 300+ feet at that point.
Tip 1 hit home. When the course is empty I will play full bag vs. 1 Envy. The Envy usually wins…
Robbie must have watched my round today and said, hey there's a video to make lol
Fine timing on the video, as I've been in one of those seasons for about a month now. This one's been probably the most persistent one, too. Buddies are playing Grade A right now; I'm feeling like nothing's coming together. I took about 10 days off, then started doing some field work with just a stack of putters and my phone camera and tripod. Normally one or the other will sort it.
Now? I'm cleaning house. Literally. I'm looking at my office (which doubles as my disc golf room), seeing discs scattered all over the place; stuff I was trying out, stuff I bought to have some backups after losing 4 discs in a week, etc. and feeling embarrassed for myself that my space has been in this state for, well, at least a month. My office looks like a homeless hoarder disc golfer moved in, and if my office is in that sort of state, my head's probably right there with it.
So, I'm literally cleaning. I'm gonna get my space right, and hopefully doing that will help me get my head right. I'm going through the 300ish discs I have, inventorying the entire lot in a spreadsheet, boxing up stuff I'm not likely to touch in the near future, putting all the copies of this or that mold together in the same place on the shelf, and thinking through what even should stay or maybe rehome.
And aside from that? Buddy invited me out tonight. Maybe I'll take you up on your putter-only round idea.
You quack me up 🦆 😂
Practice practice practice. Study the correct form and practice it
I LOVE "Attorney RobbieC!"
Also, legitimately laughed out loud at the opening!
great video! Played a 1 disc mid range only round last week. Was a nice change of pace didn't have to debate choices and ended up doing pretty good.
I need more energy after work for field work. I always improve everytime I do it. Both times. #eagleric
This video is wonderful advice and very needed. One thing to remember is that you are in the middle of a rough casual round it is ok to just walk away. I had a round that started with bad mental and only got worse from there. I walked away, took the rest of the week off and felt so much better when returning to the course.
Half way through the video and just wanted to say the channel is awesome! I suggested this channel to my friend earlier today because he said he's been feeling like he's getting worse and I also had to take a two and a half week break because of a procedure I had done. I've been back at it but I find this all of my discs are getting A LOT of turn and just keep going right forever even when I feel like I release it on a hyzer. Can't wait to play some putter only rounds and find out what the heck is going on lol
Very timely. I’m picking the sport up after years of not playing. I’ve been trying to find lessons for a couple of weeks to help me out, but it’s not very obvious how to do this.
Take a break is the best advice ever.
Your emotional intelligence is clearly on display in this video, and I actually feel a little better after watching. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go down to my local course, miss a bunch of gaps, and trash talk myself until I cry. hashtag frolf lyfe
One thing that occurred to me while watching this is as long as I play disc golf I will play disc golf badly. I don't mean that how it sounds, my definition of badly changes as I improve…. I'm always going to have off days.
If my goal is to get my good days better and my bad days not as bad there is still a lot of room to enjoy the game. If I'm not having fun… take a break. Took a break from tournaments cuz I was tired of seeing 895+ rated guys smoking the local ma-3 field and was starting to find it less fun. It's been nice to just go practice on my own and play casual rounds again with friends.
A great tip is to go play a course you’ve never played! Maybe travel to a different town to play a round at their local course.
Today I wanted to leave a course and never return to it, but by continuing to play and fixing my issues I shot the most birdies I’ve ever gotten in a day on the back 9 alone
I have a question. I feel a lot of the course i play the T pads are short for my walk up and i don't feel like i am taking huge steps, but i feel like i reach the end of the T pad quickly and don't get my full throwing form in. How can i shorten my steps and get my full throwing from in?
The biggest thing I've had to learn to do—and I'm not always successful with it—is to focus more on throwing the way I want and less on throwing the shot I want. I find the more I focus on hitting my perfect line, the more my form slips, making hitting the line even harder. When I'm having a bad casual round, I stop keeping stroke score and start keeping track of shots I threw how I wanted to, with decent form, angle, snap, and spin. I can't control how the wind blows or where the trees are as the disc flies, but I can control it until it leaves my hand. Working on giving the best chance possible leads to more good shots for me than trying to hit the inch-perfect line I hit once last year.
TRIGGERED! Pickleball is cool. No, not as cool as disc golf but still cool. Lol
Great as always like therapy😊 do a clip on how to get consistency in your game maybe.
I feel seen 😂
Great video as always, and chalked full of truthiness. I ended my season early this year and changed my bag. It has been very refreshing, and now I am all Lone Star! In a good place playing rec rounds and not worrying about points or ratings for a few months! Thanks brother!
When I'm tired of my discs I just play a few "notorious" courses and I usually come away with at least -1.
Thank u so much on your last video I left the comment about how I've been frustrated in my last round was worse than my first round in a tournament being a year to be truthful I have not remembered the last time I went out and played I putter u you have inspired me and give me hope thanks Robbie
Third pickleball reference I have heard today. What is this madness.
Speaking of UDISC, why isn’t special “putter only rounds” and the like an option to select? Or safari rounds? I know not your app just a thought I wanted to post.
Definitely something every disc golfer goes through. But in the end we always come back to this awesome spot we all love and enjoy.
Crave for this win!
I see that Infomercial guy is rocking Youth Pastor “Preaching on Sunday” Formal. 😅 love the channel. Keep it up!
diggin the intro music vibe
Outstanding!
I love Calvin too
This is exactly why I watch your videos. Thanks for all the positive energy Robbie! P.S. I'm loving my Robbie C Flight Towel
People get complacent with their disc in their bag? dang, I wish, I seem to have this addiction to buy a new disc hoping it makes me a better player, I am still confused on this topic…….
