Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.

I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

  1. If you just look around when you are playing you will find Pro-v1s all over the place. My son and I were scrounging around in the long grass on the cliffs between the fairway and ocean at Pebble beach and found many. No cost and really fun.

  2. I guess the only reason people buy these is because they have Titlest writing on them. You can buy a brand new box of AD333 for cheaper than these.

  3. what you have to also look at in the game of golf is, if someone has a bad day with that golf ball, they will instantly blame the equipment instead of looking at their own game. it's a fact that human's hate to take ownership of errors. so, the reviews will be based on shxt golfers i reckon LMAO

  4. Perhaps a better test would be to test the refinished Pro V1s against another ball with the same price point. I.e. For a golfer who doesn't want to spend $50 on a dozen pro V1s, should I get the refinished pro v1s or something different?

  5. Get better golf balls off bloke who seems to be on every course selling a dozen for a tenner 👍⛳️👍

  6. can't look past Kirklands for cheaper and better all round. But for even more quality at this price point I'd always recommend the RZN tour golf ball, quality is unreal and just great in general

  7. The soft plastic in the cover have plasticizers added to the blend. These plasticizers probably evoporated after time in the elements (especially those older ones) making them (feel) harder.
Edit. I think the paint probably isn't that big of a deal but the bad job they did might have messed with the aerodynamics.

  8. I used to hit these balls often. I can attest that their problem is that you may have a range of ages in each box of balls. Older balls are going to have degraded/affected performance, and the consistency across the entire box is going to vary wildly.

If you’re a novice who just wants to play with ProV1s on a budget: can’t go wrong with $20/dz refurbs.

If you’re a more experienced player who wants the exact same feel and performance for every ball out of a box, spend the money on new.

  9. Having only hit 'pre-forested' Pro V1's, I need Rick to explain the difference between old and new.

  10. It would be interesting to cut them open after testing them and see what the differences were between the ones that felt similar and the ones that felt worse.

  11. A year ago today I fell in love with golf. I owe alot to your videos for being able to improve my game Rick! Thanks!

  12. so i have to ask, does titelist pay you and matt to give these balls a bad review, they obviously don't want people to buy old prov1 they want you to buy new, so i ask again, how much are they paying you to give such a bad review. at least you acknowledged that they all are prov1, matt didn't even know that

  13. My experience with refinished prov1s have been bad as well. They probably traveled 25-30 yards shorter off the tee

  14. Rick I would love to see a launch monitor comparison of the individual golf balls before and after the durability test. Obviously we know the damage is going to hamper performance but to what degree? Is that ball still usable in any capacity or does it go in the shag bag?

  15. Fascinating review Rick. Never expected those results. The honest review is brilliant. I wonder how American golf react to this 🤔Great work.

  16. Well if these were water balls at all then you’ve lost me. 12 hours in the water is enough to ruin a ball.

  17. Don’t Titelist have an action against someone the product it’s giving the impression their ball is poor , well it’s going to be if you put a dodgy paint job on it. Just buy PRv 1 lake balls without the dodgy paint ?

  18. my takeaway is; these are not reconditioned golf balls, these are repainted golf balls. it''s still an old used ball, just painted over; and so it will perform like an old used golf ball.

personally, I use Calloway Superhot Bold, in red. it feels good to me, I can afford to lose a few, but I'm a lot less likely to, because with the tint in my glasses, they glow like embers, so if I can get in sight of it, I can see it easily.

  19. How do you know for sure they are ProV1 just by cutting them open? Many golf balls probably have same colors inside, they aren't a trademark of the ProV1. There's no definitive way to say they are true ProV1. Unless you remove the top layer of paint to see what they painted over. Why you should never buy refurbished golf balls. Maybe just for hitting into your practice net at home.

  20. Not an expert, but if you are serious about golf you would not skimp on the ball? – I was a kid and used to get all my balls from the random found bin and from the various brooks along the way. It was like I found a gem when I saw one.

  21. OK…..now I wonder how “old but unused” golf balls might perform in comparison. If these “used and refurbished” balls dated between 2007 and 2019 (3 – 15 years old) performed badly what would an unused 15 year old Pro V1 do? What if it was stored in a garage that was hot in summer and cold in winter vs in a controlled temperature storage area? There are so many variables that might affect performance. Of course, to us hackers, the life of a golf ball is only a few hours, if not a few minutes, before it is lost in the woods or at the bottom of a lake so perhaps it doesn’t matter all that much……EXCEPT for it would be so much more painful to lose a 280 yard shot than a 260 yard shot…..LOL.

All that said, there is nothing like Teeing up a brand new ball. It’s like putting on new underwear….it just feels so good. In my case, I kiss a brand new ball knowing that it won’t be mine for long and so I kiss it goodbye right out of the box.

  22. I used to play with Top-Flite, Pinnacle….and my own personal favourite…..Kasco, remember them?. Kasco was a rock hard golf ball that went for miles if proper connection was made, if not, you felt the vibration all the way up the club rendering the hands numb for a minute or two. Probably why my handicap was so high. lol 🙂

  23. Rick you are chipping well ! 🙂
Do Titleist no longer stamp the balls refinished / refurbished – if they dont they should !

  24. I almost strictly use, used golf balls. Not refurbished, but used in Mint condition. The price is right, and I can promise you, my miss hits have nothing to do with the ball and everything to do with me.

I used Callaway chrome soft because I love how soft it feels around the greens.

  25. I've gotten some of those and some are not even ROUND they were uneven at some points. I have NO CLUE how that happened lololol

  26. You need to do a double blind test.. without knowing what you are hitting – and the person handling the ball for you not knowing either – and a third person having marked them and handling the tally – THEN you'd have a proper test ! You are going to be biased if you know what it is you are testing (it's not voluntary – not your fault – it's how the brain works).

  27. I got some of these from Walmart and they all felt like normal prov1s and the durability wasn’t great but it was better than these and they paint work was as good as a normal prov1

  28. I bought a dozen refurbished ProV1X balls from a popular online retailer, and they were absolutely terrible! I'll stick to Vice Pros for now.

  29. I'm playing the Kirkland Signature v2s right now. For the money, they're performing just fine for my skill level. I played Pro-V1s at the start of the season and they didn't feel different enough to me to warrant the extra cost when I lose a couple a round.

  30. Mygolfspy did studies on refurbished balls and cart path/scuffed balls. Basically, don't buy them.
