  1. Manuel de la torre had the same advice… Club always in the middle of stance. It's a very simple method that can work for a lot of people.

  2. Great to see you guys back together and many thanks for a simplified chipping method, being simple I find that simple works just fine for me👍👍🤣🤣

  3. Simple is best. I have always been an adherent to the weight slightly forward for chipping school of thought but always had a consistent central ball position. I did try experimenting with changing ball position but I never understood why you would want to deloft a wedge by hitting off the back foot – if you need less loft then change the club to something with the loft you need. There is one exception, in the very odd situation where the only shot is a Hollywood flop I will move the ball position forward but I really hate that shot!

Can we have bunker play from simple LJ next please!

  4. You just showed how to save everyone some $$$ buy not having to invest in a chipper.

  5. Every golfer should memorize the following: Bogeys are not the problem – Doubles & Triples are the problem. The reason the Ping ChipR is the hottest club in the world is exactly for this reason. The shorter the swing you need to take, the smaller the variance of likely outcomes. If the conditions allow you to chip with a 5/7/9, and get within 8 feet, then do. Loft is NOT your friend when chipping – use as little as you need and only reach for more when absolutely necessary.

  6. this is how i was taught to chip, and it works, good to see another qualified pro confirming it. I was also told to use a shallow takeaway to make sure the bounce is used.

  7. I've seen skilled golfers mainly use a pitching wedge. This is all I used when I was young. 4 wedge system is mental confusion. Pithing wedge with 1 sand wedge is enough to play good golf.

  8. Amazing! This technique is EXACTLY what the pros do. I was watching the tournament on Sunday, paying particular attention to when the pros had to chip. They, without exception, put the ball in the middle of their narrowed stances and every one of them swung it just like in the video. I'm sold!

  9. I really enjoyed the video. I think it would be great to continue with different things like this that would help the average golfer. Too many instructors always refer to what the PGA tour players do. Please continue this type of conto

  10. I've always played from the middle of my stance but, the width of stance was an eye opener. Thank you.

  11. I love 9-iron for so many shots around the green. If I need some loft, I use the 52º. Even on fast greens, a 52º wedge has plenty of loft for most shots. Greenside, I only use the 58º for bunkers or extreme situations, and there aren't many of those. My goal is always to use the smallest swing I can, with the least amount of force, giving me the best chance of hitting it on the face where I want. That way, if something goes wrong (and it will!) there's simply not enough energy going into the shot for the outcome to be too disastrous. A lob wedge is simply not a precision tool in the hands of most amateur golfers. It's more like a gardening tool in the hands of most amateur golfers.

Looks like Lewis has slimmed down a bunch! Lookin' good, man.

  12. No disrespect, But: Every day, every golf channel, another lesson with another pro with another setup, technique and another method is being tought. I have seen (and tried) many of varieties and methods, but this is not the one I kept. It lacks feel and touch not being able to open the face and use the bounce. It does give little backspin and It is prone to duffing because the head is too upright. It will not work well when hight is needed, or quick stopping is needed for a smaller landing area to land the ball. A chipper might be a better solution in case of result vs more foolproof and easy

  13. Hi Andy another great video👍, And some great simple tips from Lewis:-Ball in centre of stance & Widening stance for longer shot’s, I think consistently striking the ball is the most important thing with the short game👍, (a slightly descending strike hitting the ball then the turf is the key), With Lewis’s 2 tips making it simple, Plus using the Ping ChipR (rather than the 9Iron)👍, Thanks Dickey 9hcp 75year Senior Golfer

  14. Another great video Andy. Such a simple tip for all golfers, one which I will be trying out when next on the course.

  15. Lowest loft I use is a 50, which I use alot for straight forward running pitches from lots of lies. I am not at all comfortable chipping with 8 or 9 irons. Just not my jam. I rarely if at all use a 60 any more around the greens. 54 or 50 mostly or putter. I'll even putt from off the green now whereas when I was younger it was always a wedge. Good simple technique though. I always stand with legs close on chips inside say 30 yards, always have.

  16. I like to see Lewis back on your channel. It's interesting what he says at 3:08, that the wider the stance, the more you will want to rotate. That is exactly the opposite of what Bobby Jones taught, namely that a wider stance RESTRICTS rotation. Jones had a narrow stance, which be believed promoted a free rotation. Jones's explanation seems to make more intuitive sense to me.
