I could definitely do what you’ve done here. At my main course, I’m typically hitting driver and then 8-iron or less in. I think the only time it could truly make a difference is on reallllllly long par 4’s or 5’s
Question: do you not get nervous hitting with all of those animals around? Lol

i would not recommend this format at all. Modern drivers, woods, &hybrids are money.
I have a really bad hip and can’t put a tee in the ground so started playing only with irons about two years ago. To offset the lack of a driver I started using the senior tees. Best move ever. Use my old clubs (7 iron is 36 degrees) and have dropped 8 strokes since the change. Using wedge thru 2 iron (18.5 degree).

Play at some holes, only irons.
At my homecourse 2xpar5, 2xpar3 an 1xpar4. The driver is my only wood in the bag🤷🏻♂️.. Hcp 8,6
It might be good to play a round on occasion to keep the irons sharp. I was kinda surprised that you didn’t have a 2 iron in there, sure there was room in the bag with no woods or hybrids. Plus after your recent review of the Taylor Made driving irons I almost expected a 2 to be in there. But whatever, it was still a good video and the sheep 🐑 provided some brief entertainment. What would be the ruling if you hit one and your ball deflects way off course?
I can do without hybrids but I've got to have a driver and at least one wood.

I put my driver away (20+yr club)for two seasons and at the last part of last season I started hitting it again to try and get more distance. I def lowered my score by not using the driver during that time. This year I bought a new TS2 and the technology in today's clubs is unreal. I'm def sticking to my new driver/hybrid. Probably the easiest club to hit now! 🍻
I played this week and most of the time I used irons or 7 wood off the tee, did ok. The driver wasn’t working that great so I didn’t want to get frustrated and ruin a nice round

I play a titleist u-505 1 iron and hit out the rough and it’s great off the tee thinking about buying u-505 3iron
Great format of the video; the narrated round really made the experiment clear. That said, I have played a number of rounds with no driver or 3W because, particularly off the tee, I can't control my slice with them. Finding a fairway with a hybrid beats deep rough or OB with driver any day. My handicap has come down quite a bit since, but I suspect that eventually, to get much lower, I'll need the distance to be able to really score on long holes- fairways do beat OB, but if I'm always hitting at least 3 into par 5s (or long par 4s), I have to really putt brilliantly to take advantage.
The only wood in my bag is the driver with lob wedge to 4 iron. Gained about 4 strokes with this bag as I am not miss hitting any fairway woods.
Another good one to try is only playing with odd or even numbered irons…. My best round was played with a half set.

Ironically I just did this exact experiment two weeks ago. It worked out great, except my putting let me down. I believe had I made 3 or 4 more putts I would have shot below my average. Going to try again soon.

Great idea this mate. I have gone out a few times on our course with just 5 iron to Pw and my wedges and putter. Weakest bit of my game is the 6,7 and 8 iron mainly due to the fact on our course a lot of the holes are a driver and a hybrid for me and 4 of the par 3s are hybrids as they are very long. Just a good way of practising your irons with out the temptation of pulling out the driver
I went the other way I have SIM2 Max D driver and the SIM2 Max 16.5HL 3w, 21* 7 wood, 25* hybrid and then go jpx919 hot metal 28*, MP59 6-pw, miura 52,56,60, ping Sydney. Trying to make things easy at the top of the bag with the higher lofted and shortened 3w, a 7w, 25* hybrid, and a forgiving “5 iron” from 175 and out I’m looking for a lot of forgiveness and trying to give myself a look or at worse keep it to 2 putts. From 170 in I’m looking for precision and attacking the pin
I often play with just a 7 or 5 iron wedge , 54 and a putter only when the course is dead later in the evenings
I have a complete mental block with irons. I just can't hit them, not even the Cobra T rail hybrid irons I bought hoping they would help. I'm fine with driver, woods and hybrids, and have hybrids down to 7.
2 of my best 3 scores have come from rounds with irons only.
5 iron and up.
driver kills my rounds, sometimes i have the 3 wood on a frozen rope and other days it's disastrous 🤷♂️

So it's funny, I went out and played my local course irons only last night and I was +5 through 9 holes. Which is about right for me playing off 12 handicap at the minute. My best ever rounds are definitely due to my driver being ON and only having flicked wedges on to greens.
Playing iron only is something i have been thinking of doing for a little while now, great VLOG!
