Have you ever thought that there has to be a magic move for more distance with not only driver but all clubs? After all, you see kids and petite players hitting it by you so they must be doing something you’re not. Well, I’m here to say there is a magic move and all pros and all better players are doing it.
I have been teaching since 1991, and I can honestly say, out of everyone I have taught 80-90% of all students do not do this one move when I first watched them hit golf balls. So this is a pretty big problem for average players.
Now are you going to get instant distance? Some people will but this move takes coordination. To become coordinated with something means repeating it. The tip clearly shows how to do it so it is up to you to do daily practice swings until you are good at it. If so, you will literally hit the ball longer than ever.
I would be practicing it daily with driver but you can be doing it with all clubs because once you get this magic move it will help you hit all clubs longer. The longer you hit the ball the easier it’s going to be. So take this seriously. This is a vital move that you must have in your swing.

Best tip I’ve ever seen explaining hitting from the ground up!
Great tip. Will give it a go.
Paul, excellent tip. I hit my driver about 230 and videoed myself and my hips faced the ball exactly as you said thery would. Will now start working on separation. Thanks.
Wonderful video! This is the only thing I work on when I'm on the range. Unfortunately for me, I have over 60 years of swinging with the arms so it is always a struggle to change. Generally I find that at the start of a range session I can kind of do it properly. But the more balls I hit, the tighter I grip the club and the harder I swing. It's a real battle but it sure is fun when I do it right! Thanks for all your work.
Hi Paul – thanks for another fantastic tip! I have been doing 100 body swings per day in my yard – I am finally getting the coordination you spoke of – in fact, I am so excited because during this morning's practice swings, I actually finally started taking divots with my 7 iron. I have literally never taken a divot in my life. It's amazing how excited I got seeing a small piece of my yard fly in the air! I truly believe what made the difference for me this morning was really working on what this tip is about – thinking of my trigger at the top of the backswing which for me is "touch legs." I slowed down my swing to about 50% and that is when the magic kicked in. I will keep focusing on this and really look forward to my practice session tomorrow morning. Thanks for the great tips, Paul!
I get this tip. My main thought move with driver and woods/long irons is to keep my trail shoulder quiet to stop me coming over the top. I hit it pretty straight but only about 200-220 yards. I seem to finish well with body facing the target but have no sensation of turning my hips so they are a bit open at the point of impact.
Paul, Shot a 73 yesterday. Only using my driver on par 5’s and irons only off the tee using this drill. Thank you so much for what you do and all the helpful information you have provided. I know you’re heard my struggles and I must say, when my playing partner gave me my scorecard, I had a serious moment of reflection!
I know it’s still a work in progress to stay there.
Thank you Sir!!!
Great video Paul thank you
I also use Paul’s “Golf ball 2-ft in front of the lead heel” drill as well. THESE WORKS WONDERS FOR YOUR SWING MOTION!
What a great drill, Paul! Than you! 🙌🏾
#227👍 I haven't played much Pual.
When I do.. I am getting better at leaving my arms out of my swing.
My legs and hips are Trying.
I've lost confidence and I'm gaining it back.
Thank You Mr. Wilson
What a guy
Huge Move.
I actually thought I was taking off to early.
I was trying to meeting the ball with my hips arms and Clue face at the same time.
Killing the Ground before the ball and my wrist.
Thanks Again Mr. Wilson.
"They separate the upper from the lower, that's why they call it separation," hahahahah😂funny
Hi Paul I have been doing this now for about a month and the ball goes straighter and with my driver about 30 yards further. I don’t swing as fast now but the weight transfer with my hips rotated slightly and finishing with my belt buckle at target is effortless. Thanks Tony from the Uk.
Would it help using an orange whip?
In all the years I've followed your teaching (probably nearing 20 now), I've never seen you so animated and committed to a drill. I've always tried to do this, but will rededicate myself to focusing on this drill every day. Thank you for all the years of teaching and help with our golf swings!
Thanks to your magic moves people think I am swinging easy and effortlessly. Haha
For anyone who is skeptical on Paul’s methods or don’t think they can switch, I can attest as a player who used a baseball grip and swing as hard as I could for years, but still only hit 220 yard drives, that the body swing method works. I have only started doing the methods I see on YouTube for the past 4 weeks and it has drastically changed my impact. Yes, you may find that your score may suffer as you adjust, but I’m hitting the ball with more consistency and confidence than ever. I went from a player who was only hitting one fairway in 9 holes at an average of 220 yards to now hitting around 265 and 5 fairways out of 7. Plus, I feel like I’m only swinging at 80% compared to my old swing. Even my par 3 scores have dropped. Im more excited about golf than I have ever been, and I feel like I’m better equipped to play a round. Paul, you are awesome and wish I found your methods a decade ago. I’m going to look into your teaching series on your website and see if you have keys on the short game like hitting chip shots, flops and putting. Keep up the great teaching!!!
Great tip. Personally if I keep my head back behind the ball at impact it enables the hips go through first. It takes some effort but seems to work
thanks, I need this lesson. I carry my 7I about 165-170, but can't carry my driver over about 220!!! Wish I could visit Vegas for a series of lessons! Thanks again.
Thanks again. I’ve been working on pausing at the top of my swing. I also was thinking should I fire my hips first? And then bam you come out with a video answering my question. I can’t wait to get this all synced up in my swing.
You promised , and delivered this game changing tip. It took alot of work for me to get this “feel” and trust that the club would follow as my hips lead through the ball. I used to be a +90 golfer , 15 handicap. I am now hitting low 80s , with 7 handicap. Thanks Paul
Thanks for this great video/drill. How would you describe the desired shoulder position vs. hips at impact? Are they more squared up/following the hip turn?
Thanks for your enthusiasm and straightforward advice. Following your program has stopped the wear and tear on my 68 year old body during practice, or a round of golf. I highly recommend it to everyone.
I am as always impressed by the simplicity of your explanations and I can tell they work should have read this more than a decade ago but better late than never thnx
If you are an arm swinger, when you get this technique right, it feels like you’re hitting the ball “after” you swing at first.
Great tips Paul, I've managed to break thru the arms barrier with my irons but really struggle with my driver? Is there a reason for this?
Will this injure your back?
great info and drill Mr. Wilson.
Thank you again Paul. Let us know if you ever make it make to the Toronto area again….. I would love to shake your hand and buy you a Tim’s.

I was having problems with the idea of your body first. Right up until this video, I think I finally have the feeling figured out. Now practice practice practice… thanks for all the tips.
When i get it right with the hips it’s pure…i still need a lot of reps as i get lazy finishing and then i hit it right of target as i don’t finish the turn all the way. But I’m working on it nightly, won’t be long now.
ahhh… starting to hit those high solid shots again! great tip that bears repeating…
Thanks for the video. Been practicing this move – and it does work. Having said that, I am still getting a lot of pushes and push fades – clubface not closing in time with arms lagging behind. Any suggestions?
as an athletic 33yo who started playing 7 months ago: $500+ on lessons, $200+ on golf books, $too much on clubs….your book Swing Machine Golf and your youtube videos have helped me the most. You really emphasize the pure non-muscle dominant athleticism that is required of golf that other instructors over-cue or miss the boat completely
Thanks for sharing another great drill Paul. Much appreciated 👍
Spot on. This should be the first lesson in any golf instruction.
Another great tip Paul. You're the man. One question tho. Should I do the lattarel move coming down first or is it built in with the hips coming down all so is the chick Harvard move still the same in this swing.
@paul wilson golf loving these videos ! I used to be a 3 handicap but have not played for 25 years and have started going back to the range to practice and I am ballooning every club from wedge to driver ! Any advice ?
Sir John the best
Went to range and tried. The only problem now is adjusting yardage. I was hitting Driver 250 to 255. Irons each 20 to 35 yards longer. Paul you explained how to do this perfect. Good job Paul.
thanx a million Paul, I have been doing this 4 some time now. when i shift my weight 2 my right foot my head my head stays still n I make my down swing n it has taken my game 2 a new level. Thanx again Paul
This WORKS!! Plain and simple! Covid sidelined me for 6 weeks. So, I watched almost ALL of Paul's videos. Some more than once. I played yesterday for the first time in 6 weeks. I had to adjust, because instead of hooking, the ball went dead straight! I made par on my first hole! Granted, it took adjusting, and I made some tempo mistakes. But I know when I go back tomorrow, I just need to FEEL it the same way, and keep practicing. It's actually a MUCH slower swing with the upper body. I shot a 43 for 9 holes yesterday, and I really haven't played much over the last few years. But I've been playing almost 35 years, and I KNOW my game will continue to improve now!! Thanks Paul. You've given me my golfing life back!!
Hey Paul – I recently found you on YT and after recently changing my swing to a single plane swing I was excited to add your teachings to my new swing. But I just wanted to give you some feedback, after implementing your drills – PROPERLY – for the first time – I noticed that my core feels like I just got done doing a core workout at the gym! I'm assuming that means I'm using my body – correct? although I didn't really hit any balls, I will say that the 3-4 balls I hit with a borrowed iron, sounded different than any other time i've hit an iron!!
Paul – after a few days os watching a ton of your Body Swing videos, YouTube videos, and reading The Body Swing, and taking practice swings at home, I went to the range today. Wow!!! I know you must have heard this thousands of times before, but I can't believe how long and straight I hit it today and it felt like nothing! (I kept thinking belt buckle to the back and stretch and belt buckle to the target and stretch) I was standing there in amazement in awe of my shots going 30+ yards longer than usual. I carried a 6 iron 200 yards! Now of course not every swing was perfect – every so often the reflex to use my arms would kick in and I would hit a thin shot. I tried to go down to 50% on my next shot and that seemed to work. I know with more and more practice the reflex to use my arms will dissipate more and more. Just need to work on that and tempo (really need to kill that desire to want to whack it that won't fully go away). I'm so happy, and can't wait to play this weekend. The Body Swing is money well spent! Please let me know if I can leave an official review somewhere.
paulllll what hell….. just finished a range session doing a whole basket just practicing this once I started getting a feel the results were insane.. even started drawing a crowd and people just watching in awe… I was in awe hopefully I can't translate this to the golf course
My instructor said the same thing about my swing, and gave me the EXACT same advice as you are giving here. He actually yanked my body by the buckle to get me to turn my hips. I focus on this at the range, but I need to DRILL the hell out of it! When I keep it together, I hit the ball about as far with a partial swing as I do trying to rip it. Your advice is top-notch, as always; thank you!
