Golfers spend countless hours practicing on the range ball beating balls, only to find that when they hit the golf course the movement practiced isn’t the same. This isn’t rocket science, the movement most probably is not the same if you are practicing two dimensional drills, such as pressuring the front leg (lateral), squatting into the ground (down force), turning into the back swing and through swing, creating lag, pulling in the right elbow, x-factor. There are many more absolutely horrendous exercises out there that golfers are told to practice and i mean HORRENDOUS 🙂
You can quote me for saying you can practice all the above until the cows come home and you will find it incredibly difficult to perfect, on fact as we know No one note even the pros have done it. That is because moving in two dimension isn’t realistic. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, which put simply things happen due to other movements therefore in trying to move or pressure in these ways it is extremely difficult to recreate the same motion through feel. Known as hand and eye coordination. That said there are golfers out there who have practiced until the cows come home and have had success but also have become injured.
Jack Nicklaus has to be one of the greatest for sure. We hear about so many ideal movements that he created however I will always remember hit key thought in transition and in the downswing it to, keep his back towards the target for as long as possible. YET i see golf tutorials encouraging players to turn through their lumbar spine like their are some kind of propeller. The key here is to understand the three dimensional forces Jack employed internally to create so much external forces that the internal was simply along for the ride and in-fact if the internal got a little trigger happy and began to open early that was the cause of his very seldom miss hits.
Practicing the correct three dimensional movement with your eyes closed our simply using visualization as covered in an earlier tutorial has been employed by all the greats of every sport. Michael Jordan, Jonny Wilkinson, David Beckham, Tiger Woods, Jack himself. The list is endless, it works and you can do it at home. So start today.
