Learn the rules of the stableford golf format that is used on the PGA Tour for the Barracuda Championship.
In this video we review how to play golf using the stableford format. We cover the rules of this golf format and discuss the tactics involved. You’ll quickly see why this format is often used for golf leagues and competitions at local golf clubs everywhere.
We cover how the objective in stableford is to score the highest number of points instead of posting the lowest number of strokes. Indeed in stableford, each hole awards you a number of points (4 for eagle, 3 for birdie, 2 for par and 1 for bogey) and you can do no worse than getting zero point for a hole at double bogey or worse. As a result, one of the key advantages of the stableford format is that it allows the golfer to still compete despite a terrible score on a hole.
Note that the modified stableford format allows for negative scoring, where a double bogey or worse will award you -3 points and a bogey -1 point. A par is then 0 point, a birdie is 2 points and an eagle 5 points.
