  1. Thank you, Matt. Great video! I've been moving more laterally from the top of the downswing to my lead side, so I love the idea of moving more down and into the lead foot. Also, I received an Arccos system as a gift this past year, and it's helped me better understand the true yardage on shots into the green.

  2. Good timing. I'm playing this afternoon. Glad you're 5 hours ahead, haha! Fantastic video. The last tip is exactly what I needed. Going to put it into practice today.

  3. Making sure I don't come up short (through wind or slope miscalculations) is something I've really taken from your channel, having watched it over the last 6 months or so, and giving much more consideration to getting up towards the back of the green yardage. Thanks Matt.

  4. A good thought is to think…. Hit the ball FORWARD. This gets your weight, and pressure on your lead side, and will even naturally get the handle slightly ahead of the club head. The way you envision your “task at hand” has a lot to do with how your body will naturally move. Never try to hit “down” at the ball. That’s too much energy focused at the ground. And for sure never think that you’re trying to hit the ball “up”(with irons). You’ll end up with a lot of fats, and thins. Hit THROUGH the back of the ball. Your energy, and intention should always be focused FORWARD. And as far as taking the right club…. I’ll sometimes hit 2 irons stronger than my playing partners. It’s because I hate coming up short, and by taking plenty of club, I can make more of a chippy, or punchy controlled swing that almost always results in a perfect strike. I’m rarely “short”, because of this. Don’t let your ego dictate the club you choose. Learn how to control your ball(the number on the club doesn’t matter), and your scores will be much better than your buddies, at the end of the day. All that most of my buddies talk about is how far they hit their pitching wedge on that ONE SHOT. Or they will try and hit their 6 iron from 225, and end up well short 99% of the time. It blows my mind. I usually beat them by 10 or more strokes. lol. Both of my friends stepped onto a par 3 the other day(145 yards all carry over water). They both swung out of their shoes and landed in the water, well short. I stepped up and hit a knockdown 8 iron pin high. They STILL wanted to brag about hitting wedge compared to me hitting 8. I shot 74. They shot 84, and 94. Jus sayin…

  5. Ive started cocking my wrists when hitting my irons, immediately found an increase of a club in distance and spinning the ball more, hit a PW out of a bunker from 130 out yesterday and hit the back of the green. Feel like my game is coming together really well, watching Matt’s videos have been a massive help.

  6. He is my free coach. 6 months I have gone from 17 to a 9 handicap. What he says it work but you have to practice. Practice more play less. Till you get it right .

  7. Love the bit about knowing your yardage and playing longer to account for wind / a little mis-strike. I like to play distances close to the back of the green most of the time in case I don't quite catch all of it. If I come up a little short and I'm still on the green, I much prefer that to leaving it a little short and potentially having a nightmare chip shot.

  8. Excellent video Matt, the first 4 tips were great. The last one gives me issues because when I move forward I will blade the ball or not square the face in time and hit the ball right of target. Straight shot but right. When I try to aim left it just gets worse. I can't even pull the ball left. I will top the ball on the downswing, not by flipping the club up like most do. Frustrating game golf is. LOL Thank you for all of the great videos!

  9. Thanks Matt! Re the last tip, would it help if we bump the lead hip out slightly at set up to ensure we get ball and then turf? Many thanks.

  10. Matt, I don't know if it's going to be you, Finch, Sheilsy, whoever…but we need a series loaded with tips for advanced golfers. We need to cover all of the little secrets and skills touring pros and caddies use to edge out the competition. Frankly I'm quite tired of the constant review and lessons for beginners. The tips in this are pretty good and appreciated! They are approaching what I'm referring to.
Let's push it over the edge and get some deep technical tips ( secrets of the seasoned golfer)!

  11. One of the reasons I bought the shot scope watch was the data tags. The support is great in response especially regards re-mapping courses.
The shot scope data allows you to get your yardages longest, average, playing average. (PA takes out the short miss hits etc)
Of course no kit tells you how much extra roll you get in summer, if a green holds or not but that’s golf and why we love no two rounds ever the same

  12. Thanks, Matt! You do such an amazing job of explaining things. My last round of golf I tied my personal best stroke play score of 78, and it was the second time in my life I broke 80! The best part of that round, that I actually didn't realize until after, were my misses with irons and wedges were left or right of target but were almost always pin high, or well within a few yards of it. I can't even begin to tell you how rewarding that felt. I'm finally getting confident at working the ball in the air (fade and draw) when I need to which also makes me extremely happy after my years of practice. I struggled for years controlling a draw shape which usually turned into a snap hook, especially with driver and woods. The craziest thing about that round is that I didn't make a single birdie/eagle and I putted rather poorly pace wise. Had I putted better I think I could have come close to playing a level par round. Thank you so much for everything that you do for us subscribers, Matt! You're making a much bigger impact than you probably even realize!

  13. Ahhhh 🤦‍♂️
Wish I seen this before I played yesterday. Played an 8Ir on a Par 3 154 slightly up hill.
Just crept on to the green. Definitely hitting a 7 next time

  14. I definitely used to be guilty of your 3rd tip about knowing your yardages. For say a 7 or 8 iron my yardages could differ 10-15 yards depending on whether I absolutely flush it or if I mishit it a bit, so despite maybe only flushing it once out of 5 times depending on how I'm playing I would still take the flush distance when accounting for yardages.

In the last few years I learned not to do that and club up to account for that, yeah sometimes I do flush it and it may go long which can be frustrating but the times I don't and end up with the correct distance outweighs that. Of course this depends on the situation, if there is big trouble long but not short of the green I won't do that but in general the club up move is the right play for me and I'd imagine most amateurs.

  15. Thank u again Matt! That last part of your video was a great lesson,I’ve recently had problems with striking the ground first before the ball, will take that advice when I head out to the driving range shortly, keep up your great work Matt!!
