Old people don’t want a cashless society and race courses insist on card only transactions there’s the problem
What is it about these jockeys giving a horse a terrible ride by getting them boxed in, then blaming the other jockeys? Dettori did this THREE times on Strad, and Hornby on Westover- who could well have won the Derby but for this.
Racing websites have become too hi tech. The RP and Sporting Life used to have fab web pages, where you'd hover over hyperlinks to see pedigrees and other info at a glance; now you have to click on it, go to another page, which isn't easy whilst the race is in progress. Now it's as if those older folk using PCs are irrelevant and only Smartfone users count. Lots of older people don't have or use Smartfones, still use cash. They don't see the point of changing what they have always done and what has worked for them.
Re Dettori's ride on Stradivarius. I think he was aware the horse is too old to be racing, too high profile just to drop dead after a hard ride at Ascot. It would've been terrible for racing. Strad needs to go to stud.
Frankie had a few poor rides, Gosden is a top trainer and needs to be ruthless, this happens in sport all the time. Frankie will still be in demand with other yards, but at his age, he needs to start winding down anyway. The 'sabbatical' phrase allows Gosden to give him the odd ride sentimentally in the future. Hollie Doyle will be Gosden's no.1 choice from here and she deserves it.
Frankie will retire at the and the end of this year.
Frankie could be a TV 🌟
Great insight and honest thoughts.
On the stories it would be a real shame if Frankie was to disappear from our racecourse he’s such a big star in the racing world and he will have to at some point hang up his boots but let’s hope it’s not on a low after everything he has done for the sport.
Oisin Murphy to be stable jockey for John & Thady Gosden next season???
For the last few months or so there appears to something different with and about Frankie, the smile has gone along with the high energy , something in his personal life maybe who knows , what comes out of it he as done a lot for racing.
Lets get one thing straight, racing is bent pure and simple, but if you treat it as a day out and just go by names you like then yes it is a great days entertainment and you will enjoy the experience. If you take it too seriously that's when you visit the Dark side of racing.I had a friend that committed suicide from gambling on the horses, lost everything on a sport that treats punters with such utter contempt but rely's on the money it generates from the punter too keep the sport afloat ,so take no notice of what these racing journalists are saying about trying to attract people on a regular basis, bet for fun just now and again and you should be safe.
Gosden has every right to sack Dettori but he should have done it with a bit more respect
If Frankie is capable of making mistakes so is every other jockey. It would be a mistake to take him off Strad at this point, the horse has done it all, everything he wins now is a bonus so keep with the jockey I say, Frankie always comes good. Some other jockey could get the ride and easily have no luck in running or make a mistake and then it was all for nothing anyway. Its a disgrace the way the older generation are being neglected at the race course, all this nonsense about no cash being accepted, they shouldnt have to bring a bank card or some cant even see the small buttons to type their pin numbers etc. The race courses do everything they can for the younger generation so they should be helping the older folks out as well. The Irish Derby was poor by the way.
As someone who has followed Frankie from his very first ride in the UK, for my own selfish reasons, I would like to see him retired before he gets hurt out there.
Gosden always comes across as a total supercilious Arrogant T××t.
As a man in my mid 50s and a lifelong racing fan, I can say I have only been to the UK races (at Ayr) once in the past 6 months. Reason 1 -lack of seating, reason 2 cost of entry. As a regular for the last 2 years at Golden gate fields in San Francisco none of the above were an issue, thousands of seats and entry under $5.
Frankie has lost the plot – not strong enough in the finish and tactically found wanting too many times. He has been outridden too many times now.
It's one thing for Gosden losing a bit of faith but when the owners start also giving Gosden grief then there really was only going to be one outcome here.
At the very least Dettori has cost Gosden and his owners one classic this season and he has fast run out of excuses.
Great points regarding concessions. Racing doesn’t value the older demographic
The horse was done fs there running them into the ground fs aw for the 💵💵
1 Colin Keane best jockey in Ireland 🇮🇪 maybe one of the best in Europe 2 ..Why all the hype over Frankie..is he a Celebrity He only Rides all the best horses 🐎 Time for the guy to retire …Move on guys
Chris Cook says what he thinks, as is not afraid to articulate his views on life . Very refreshing. He understands that most of us don't have disposable income, and probably won't in the future when/ if we get older.!
When are we going to discuss the Racing Post charging people £4.20 for a paper copy.
I used to say how proud I was for buying it every single day for 20 years plus, nowadays it has to be as a 'rare' treat.
Shopkeepers are aghast when they scan the barcode.
I appreciate how everything is going up in price and that nobody is 'making' me purchase it, but . . . .
Their are too many meetings, too few runners in most races,so reduce the number of meetings each day,and copy the race meetings like the racing in Ireland and have less meetings and more runners.
This 'bounce back' makes me laugh as Frankie is a natural on a horse, but even a natural can't make a slower horse beat a faster one, no matter who owns or trains it. Does he make mistakes, of course he does, as does Buick, Doyle and even Ryan. Chris Cook makes a point of noting Frankie's age, intimating a decline in ability which I thought was in poor taste, especially when we consider that Frankie will go down in history as one of the best jockeys in the world, but then again I suppose any hack can throw a little mud, for who will remember a Chris Cook or a Lee Mottershead, but Frankie will always be one of the best.
Tony McCoy Ruby Walsh Michael Kinane to name 3 top jockeys all went out at the top of their game. Frankie should do the same not wait till he's at the back of the field with everyone saying he used to be gd.
Frankie is lucky Alex Ferguson aint John cuz hed have a boot thrown at his head for his disrespect
Great show, this is a good cencept to have racing discussions without the tipping of horses.Great idea.
La da la posh prick
Dettori and Gosden have had a long relationship thats run it's course. There is fault on both sides and been handled unprofessionally. Frankie is still a top jockey after over thirty years at the top but understandably his hunger for the game and at times his decision making are not what they were. The Gosden's will continue to train big winners .Its a shame their frustration with their jockey boiled over the way it did and became a blame game. Neither party has come out of this with their head held high.
