“I would have shot a personal best if I hit all my putts!!”
“It was a solid round except for my putting!”
“I had three different putts with a tree right in my line!”
The putting green lives to haunt our dreams and thoughts after a round, and no matter how much we seem to practice it keeps hurting our scorecards. There are 10-15 footers that will always haunt us, but what about the special circumstances or odd putts we have to face? How do you feel when you didn’t make a long putt all round? Often we live locked into our putter and just thinking that we are the problem the entire time.
Now while this is largely true (just trying to keep it honest) sometimes your putter might actually be the problem! Sometimes switching what you’re putting with could be the difference between a make and a miss. In today’s video we’re going to focus on a different strategy when it comes to putting overall, especially in those odd/unique putt situations. What’s the strategy? You’ll have to watch to find out!!

Also- I've found that taking data on my putting stroke has been extremely helpful to my game. I used to use a very firm stagger putt and try to brute force it into the chains-while I had okay percentages, my comeback putts were longer and I struggled with spit outs. I realized during putting practice right after a tournament that it wasn't just about the percentage of makes and misses, it was about average strokes per putt. This is not a new concept. I believe Scott Stokely (initially) chose the Berg as his putting putter because while it might not make as many putts for him, he would 3-putt less because of the Berg's lack of glide. I came up with a method to find the best putt. It was conceived independently, even if it wasn't original.
I took 100 putts using my previous technique, then 100 putts at a straddle. Not only would I count the percentage that I made, I would count how many total strokes it took for me to get all my putters in the basket. For example if I made 75/100 of my putts I would take the remaining 25 and try to get them into the basket. So if I made all of the comeback putts, my total strokes would be 125, meaning 1.25 strokes per putt. I also adapted it to finding what distances I should run putts from. A layup is basically a guarantee that it will take exactly two strokes to get in the basket. I would go farther and farther back, recording strokes per putt. The distance that my strokes per putt went over 2 was the distance that it was no longer logical to run the putt, and I had a better chance just laying up. So if I made 20% of putts from 60 feet, and my strokes per putt was 1.93, it would still be a putt I should run. but if from 65 feet, I made 15% of my putts and my strokes per putt was 2.07, It would not be a smart putt to run. This method could be adapted to choosing a better putter, stance, or putting angle. Or, as Robbie said in the video, to decide what putter to use from specific distances.
Thanks to anyone who read my essay lol

I use a JB Roach for almost all putts
Envy inside 40', proxy outside. The proxy stays straight longer so I don't have to change my putt. Head/tail wind also affects my decision. That would've been a good tip also.
Despite the economic market crash,I'm so happy. I have been earning $45,850 returns from my $8,000 investment every 14 days.
Putt with p blend alpacas. Keep a tomb in the bag for long approaches that i wanna give a bid, a sonic for crazy elevation change and anhy putts, and a slightly lighter r-blend alpaca for long c2 bids, or layups i need to not roll away. 👍
I like the Viking Rune for an approach putter and a latitude 64 keystone for close putts.
Retro and opto pure are my go to for circle one putts and upshots with little in the way of the basket, otherwise esp zone and neutron pilot for circle 2 or upshots with trees in the way as well as being good scoober discs! practice with 4 other discs though to see if/when i want to switch, another great video!!
Going to be getting the Sky God 4 (P2) soon but not sure what weight I should get… I mainly want it for a driver/approach. Haha. Any tips on what weight I should swoop? I’m only a year in so I’m not sure if I should go with a putter weight or driver weight?
Thanks for the quack fest at the beginning Rob. They always make me smile.
How many people quack in their head when they miss a putt? Haha!!
ZEPHYR!!!
Streamline special edition pilots are my putting putters. And the Long distance putters are Bergs.
Uphill put is for me "get ready to drop in for par or boogey" mostly becasue my put just falls off from air straight down and most of time under the basket. Putting whit year old proto P2´s that has so many puts that i dont even wana try count. Dunno how common it is to really dislike feeling of new putter .
I used to putt with the polecat exclusively but had to give up on it because I couldn’t find it in glow or other plastics. Now I put with the Deputy.
I like using a Zone for my put around obstacles, the couple I have I can float and then they just stall and fall to the left. I normally aim about a basket right and at the top of the basket. Great content, love watching your videos.
I use pure's, just different stages of being beat in. Most beat in, inside of circle 2. A little less beat in, inside of 100 feet. I also bag a new pure, for my straight throwing putter.
I’v been struggling with finding a putter that fits my hand and feels good to throw, so I went trough a few. Ended up with the rainmaker. I’m really enjoying the feel and the flight. Anything roughly 80 feet and in I grab my rainmaker.
Similar to how you use the Precious Child for putting, my bread and butter throwing putter (Aviarx3) is what I'll lean on for those long crashing hyzer putts.
Your tip about the visualization of the other baskets similar to the cup in ball golf is something I realized today I was already doing and it really helps! Awesome work Robbie!
My normal putting putter is a discraft jawbreaker GT Banger. for elevated straight on putts, electron firm nomad. for obstructed putts, pig!
I miss your beard more than I miss my putts… and I miss a lot of putts.
I have been putting with a Hunter for all but headwind putts, and my premium plastic Jokeri for headwind putts. (Jokeri is also my favorite approach disc). However I only have 1 Hunter and they are hard to find, and my Son-in-law just gave me a pair of Penroses, so trying them out as putting putter.
Answer is Luna.
Electron soft nomad all day something about the plastic and feel the things come out with tons of spin and are true point and shoot putters
When I score -2 or worse at kayak point is when my putting was bad and it’s pretty annoying.
Judge for everything!
I putt with a Luna and actually use a putter line Zone as my other putter. Works great in windy situations and has a decently similar feel to the Luna
Everytime I put with something that's not a Berg, I just wish I'd thrown a Berg.
I will putt with an Electron Envy from distance. I will putt with a little bit of Anhyzer to get extra glide and the Envy will straighten out into the basket. If I do this with my normal putter, Warden, the Warden is less consistent with the Anhyzer; sometimes it will just glide right past the basket. Also I will putt with the Envy into wind for the same reason
I'm a spin putter and I use a Dart for all distances of putting. As long as I'm in circle 1 I put normally. Anything further than that I start adding a little anhyzer tilt to the disc and putt with the same motion. To putt around obstacles like bigger trees, I go with my trusty Pig. Love the content!
Windy long putts…. the Cro in R-Pro plastic is kind of great. Soft, and sits well. The Berg is the disc I couldn't live without, and use it to put from 30ft+ all the time, especially if there's any danger long. Not a ton of glide, but straight as can be and soft in the chains.
Robbie. What weight on the putters? I'm assuming that the Pros use full weight putters?
Innova Birdie circa 2002 forehand putt… but then again I am not right in the head. Great video Robbie!
Luna Lover inside the circle and a Nomad Nerd outside
Just started last year so im really new but I am using the latitude 64 pure for all my putts.. doesnt matter which distance. I cant be throwing different putts.. man i dont even know how 70% of my discs wants to fly yet 🤣
For your long putt. this is something that I’m starting to see in my game. I was putting with the P2. And I was giving it height to reach the basket. But if I don’t pull it right enough the wind pushes it very far. And has me really far left for overcompensate and pull it right. So I’m starting to do a very straight spin putt right at the basket. Because it looks like you’re putting at the basket, and not through the basket on your long putts. Now I’ve been in between nomads, and links. Pretty much only used a P2 if I’m gonna flex my put. Putting is all mental, if you watch Simon in the bag video. He said he’s switched potter is like five times in the last two months. Literally just find what feels comfortable and practice, practice, practice
I use keystones from latitude 64. Super straight and glidey. I can really rely on the keystone not to fade out too early. Plus the hand feel is great and retro plastic is cheap and feels great
I love my Mirage , pretty much flies straight into the basket, very little fade at the end.
Electron envy for close, far, and approach.
Im inspired. Gonna play a tournament using only a zone and putting putters
I putt with a Luna and use both the beat in proto along with the newbie. The main thing I have learned is that focus along with practice, couple with patience has started to show results.
I recently made the switch from deep-dish putters (Gateway Wizards) to shallow rims (Gateway Chiefs/Shamans, Discraft Zones). It has made a huge difference. Just fits my hand better.
I got my SUPER beat up Luna for putts such as these! That beauty would flip on a 200ft upshot its so beat up… beautifully straight for those longer C2 putts and beyond!
