I use a TP Mills TP5 that was given to me along with an entire bag of clubs when I first got started on my golf journey. I absolutely love how it feels and while I don’t always hit it square, I definitely think that it feels better than most mallet putters that I’ve tried out.
JMO but putters are lik efirearms… it is a very personal choice and basically depends on which one gives YOU the bes t performance… personally, Icould care less what anyone else uses… blades are too light for me..
You forgot the Long Putter and the Face On Putter.
I love my face-balanced blade. I could use a little more forgiveness, but I like my better distance control. I also prefer my alignment aids on the ball mainly with just a simple line on the putter itself. Maybe next time, I’ll check out a slightly bigger blade.
The answer is the answer to the question of the best putter of all time. I bought an answer 4 at a yard sale for five bucks, best putter I've ever owned
Think of Putters like you think of women. There will be certain styles, feels and looks that fit you better, there will be others that you think are ugly but once you hit it you fall in love, the bottom line is the right putter/woman is out there waiting for you, you just have to find it/her 😂
I think you should send me one of those mallet evenroll putters since that would bread my teachers budget bank 😂
LOL Matt, you know that "old anser putter" you readily mocked? Well, that's what I use (not brass though) and even on my humble 14 handicap, I am averaging around 32 putts per round over the last 3 or so years I have been keeping the stats. It's one of only two clubs in my bag that I will not replace.
Another thing to consider:
-Mallets are better for people with a back and forth stroke.
-Blades are better if your putting stroke has an arc in it.
putting is an area that let's me down. I've tried different grip (both how I hold the club and the actual club grip thickness) I don't feel that I get the 6 footers and can miss short putts for fun. Long putts distance control isn't bad buy then I'm faced with that 3 footer….I have 2 style of blade putter and can't visually take to the mallets. I think I'll have to test one.
another great video, super informative.
ive found I really prefer the bladed putter simply for the looks of it but i know as a 20 handicapper my putting can use with a lot of improvement. Ive been looking at the fang style or a double wide to keep it in that sleek design that looks better to my eye but still offers more forgiveness. in the time that ive been saving up to get a new putter ive been investing alot of time on the practice greens and have found ive been saving myself a few strokes each round. now im in limbo of do i stick with my current stick and save my money or do i make the purchase and hope it drops a few more stokes
As a relative newcomer to the game, I tried both mallets and blades and found I liked and disliked aspects of each. I found distance control harder with a mallet, but liked the consistency of weight one could apply to striking the ball. I liked the delicacy of the blade and the fact that I could be more precise with it, but if I was a bit off, it was less forgiving of errors. I compromised and bought one of the heavier, wider blade putters, which I'm getting on quite well with so far.
You didn't have any center shafted putters in there, I still think for me a face balanced center shafted putter is best. My current gamer is a Ping mid mallet center shaft, but it isn't as good for slow greens, I also have a center shafted Odyssey 11 mallet that I am trying out for slower greens, but have only used it on the putting green so far.
*Alignment
I putt very upright, with the heel off the ground. Still haven't decided whether a mallet or blade is best for me.
As a good weekend warrior and society golfer off 10 ive just moved to an arm lock putter. Played no gimmies in a money 36 holes and just would never give up all that comes with it. Would sacrifice it all for spmethimg that does the job. Your mad if you dont
T22 Newport 2 all day every day and twice on Sunday
I generally use a blade style [PING Cadence B65] and do like it. That said I never threw away my old OYDSSEY Dual Force2 #5 mallet. I have reverted back to that when the PING goes cold on me.
Those very large mallets may have science backing them up but they do my head in just looking at them
Cheers.
Got a putter fitting in the next couple of days Matt. This video is going to help me with perspective. Very informative. Thanks.
To me, it always looks like arm lock putters do the same thing as anchoring putters did, stabilize unsteady putting styles. Anchoring putters were banned and I believe arm lock putters should be banned as well.
If you have to worry about hitting the toe or heel of your putter, golf might not be for you…lol
Great timing Matt. Thanks
turned this off after it is clearly an even roll promo
Matt what is that mallet putter you were using? I know it’s an Evenroll
I’ve tried a lot of shapes, went to blade last year, I find it easier to line up because of the straight lines of the head, like the way I can feel where I’ve hit it as with mallets all feel similar strikes, a bit like with driver knowing where I’ve struck it seems to help
After going to a blade my game improved. It was rough in the beginning but I stuck with it and I'm not going back
God bless!!! 🙏❤️
Evenroll putters are consistent all over the face, there’s a YouTube video of them testing them with a robotic arm . But other blades yes are less forgiving
I've had my original Odyssey 2 Ball since early days. Tried many different ones in shops. Even tried out my mates other ones. Stuck with the old faithful. Trying to wear the face out lol.
A putter head that seems to "start back by itself" always feels good to me, and fat grips destroy the feel in my hands. So, past experiments with rocket-ship putters aside, I always come back to my O-Works blade.
