Why is this done with a mid to short iron? This can’t be done with a long iron?
Implementing this to my practice sessions. Thank You Eric!
The Precision Impact training aid does the opposite of what good training aids do. It would be better if it would force the right hand into flexion, so the muscles would be trained to keep the wrist in extension.
Love this! Beautiful explanation!
Really like the look of this drill. Would it work with driver? with the ball futher forward in my stance?
My local pro had me doing this and it really is a brilliant drill for us who struggle with sequencing. And as you say it fixes a lot of other stuff as a bonus.
Would you recommend this drill with woods/metals?
Can’t wait to try this! Same thought with driver??
Great drill but how do I stop myself from rushing or snatching on the transition from back to forward swing please
Looks like the Chase Duncan FLIPS drill.
When the club is at parallel on the backswing, before you transition to the lead foot (and the club goes up an additional foot as a response), how much pressure are you feeling on the inside of your back foot heel?
Thanks Eric! Loved this video! Quick question, can this also be done with a longer iron or even woods and driver? Curious why or why not. TIA 🙏
Should call it the Jon Rahm drill. Good drill
Jon Rahm does this, real good.
I picked up at least 10 yards with every iron in the bag today using this drill on the range today, then for a short practice 9 holes in the evening. Such an amazing drill. Everything felt 50% of my normal backswing. Eric, we need the adjustments on how you take this pivot feeling or changes with this feeling to the driver. One of your best video's buddy, great stuff.
normally i try to pause at the top for a second to slow down the motion (stop overpacing the swing)
cant wait to try this motion instead next time at the range
Will this drill help with early extension?
Hi Eric , great drill I’ve used it in the past. But I have a question , ever since I’ve used this drill I’m not able to make a full back swing ?
During a practice swing I’m able to make a full turn but as soon as I step up to the ball to hit the shot I’m not making a full turn ? Any advice what can do ? Thanks again Niels
Another excellent video . Another way to describe the float load move (fabulous drill for proper sequencing) would be loading front foot into the slot position by floating the lower body- the whole sequence being known as the transition move.
What is JT’s last name? Where is he from? Why was he on your show? He didn’t get to say much… thanks
Eric this was a great drill. I have been struggling big time lately. Hit 20 balls today using this drill and once I got the hang of it I am hitting the ball so much better, with much less effort. Thabks
One of my favorite drills in that, like the Dr Kwon drills and rope swings, intsead of teaching you movements you need to think about in the swing, it trains your body to recognize the right feels and motions. I hit irons this way very effectively out on the course for a while, but wanted more distance from a fuller swing. On the range, with flat lies and perfect footing, the longer swing does give me more distance, but this shorter swing feels like less room to get off plane, so maybe I'll go back to it for uneven lies and stances.
I was absolutely flushing the ball with this drill, but couldn’t hit with a full swing after? Haha I like the drill, I’m sure there is a logical explanation.
THis is a solid lesson
A most excellent video lesson. Kudos gentlemen. Also liked the "caveats."
Best.drill.ever.
This is almost like Jon Rahm and Tony Finau swing except they just go 3x fast at the transition. I swing this almost naturally on my knock down or 3/4 swing. I should just make this my normal swing for consistency.
I have been playing golf for 1.5 years now and have steadily dropped to a 19.1 handicap. However, no matter how many videos I watched on YouTube, I was never capable of hitting a draw. Until this move. Thank you for this video. I am sure it will help me move towards the next phase in my golf development. Kind regards
I need a way to stay connected on my backswing and make a better turn.
Definitely will be doing this. Thanks
Can you do this with a driver? Or is it too “descending”?
This is excellent.
Looking forward to trying this but quick question. If you’re getting the same distance as a full swing, is there any advantage of doing a full swing on the course?
This is exactly what I have been practicing and to be honest, the contact you make and the results makes me want to do it on the course lol. To me, maybe I am wrong, this is almost essentially what makes Hogan's swing so idealistic. He of course has much more to it like shallowing and right hand punch, but essentially the float move is what I see there. Maybe I wrong, but either way this is a great drill and thank you for sharing it!
Great drill! Excellent teaching. Thanks
So I had been integrating this "hip shift forward to instigate the downswing" motion into my practice, but what you call the 'float load' move actually instigates this movement BEFORE the downswing begins. It's interesting, and it really is making me feel my age (55): I'm obviously not as flexible as I used to be, but I really feel like I CANNOT take my club as far back as before if this move is utilized. It literally makes it impossible for me to exaggerate my backswing, and I don't consider that a bad thing: it will stop a pull, and casting/early extension…a whole host of swing flaws.
This is more purely athletic move to the ball, but when done absent tension, should create increased ball speed off the club, and – more importantly – groove the club into the shallowed on plane swing we're all looking for. This looks easier to practice and implement than most other tips I've seen – and it reminds of what I see in Garrett Clark's (GM_Golf) swing.
I'll work on it. Thanks!
Another comment: I can see how the average golfer using this technique may have to guard against fatigue later in a round/during a marathon 36 hole day: fatigue could manifest as a breakdown of the straightness of the lead arm through impact, or a collapse of the knees into the ground during the downswing, resulting in a fat shot, etc. Other than that: FAR more natural and repeatable.
I’ve watched Eric’s videos for quite a while. For some reason, I cheat on him and my eye wanders to others on YT 😂…but I always come back because of videos like this. This was a great one
The "A-ha" moment of this video, for me, was not just the hip moving to the left, but for the torso to move in conjunction with. Historically, I would only get the hip to the left, and not feel the torso/lat, and generate power solely through pushing up and back with my left foot. Keeping tension on the lat should help "sync up" my kinematic chain, and really unwind my torso, before unwinding the shoulders, then arms, then hands. Excellent drill!
This is gold
Great drill.
Eric, I just simply love your tutorials. Always come out of this videos feeling more educated and with results!
Seems like float loading would be the best way to go on full shots, but will this work with 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 shots?
I'm loving this drill. You got a sub out of it too.
I do this sometimes at the range to try to take my hands out of it n so I use more body turn but all to try to get that stretched out full arms extended finish. I hit a high iron so I also do this hoping to flatten it out some. I’m steep can’t help it I’m a dirty steep hacker lol. This gets you more out and In front instead of down into the pop up moon ball. I also saw Tiger working on it so it’s got to be golden 😁
This is a drill? This may be my entire new swing! Lol
OYGG!! Chase is the man. This drill changes lives
oh hai Jon Rahm
