Congrats on recognizing the problem. You’re dead right that this experience will help you next time.
Onwards and Upwards.
Totally understand what you mean about unusual conditions that create a relatively disappointing round. We watch your “picture perfect” golf videos and we don’t see the stress (usually because the courses you play are so beautiful and you play them so well). I’m sure you will find ways to cope when you’re in a stressful situation. Now that you have a fresh memory of this tourn, you will have another scenario to practice to push through it. Love your content. Thanks so much!
Your sweet but as a fan you use “like” like too much 😂😂
Heb this was one of your best video’s IMO.
Stay strong and work on your mental strength. Experience is the key. The more tournaments you play the better mental management you will learn. You have the skill and the love for the game. Keep going
Funnily enough, the first slow play penalty at the Masters was given to an amateur… Even though many pro's had played slower over the years (Norman vs Faldo comes to mind)
When I play with good players, they will often play badly. I may have some unknown psychotic effect lah
nice swing..
Keep fighting Jen! Super proud of your effort and openness in sharing your journey.
Ah slow people are the worst. I get anxiety from thinking about the group behind waiting.
If you gave me 30 shots, we might tie
This was a big event for you. The result is not really that surprising. You will put pressure on yourself to have a good week but you need to give yourself time to feel at home on tour and then the results will start to come. You will always have the support of your followers regardless of the ups and downs.👍
Gen, when you older you won't remember the Ups and Downs of the journey, but you will remember all the precious moments you were able to share with your awesome dad! Charish these times with him on your bag by your side. What an amazing dad you have.
Take inspiration from Minjee
Mike Lardon talks about wide and narrow focus in his book. From my experience, it's really hard to be locked into the zone and be super "narrow" focused for 4+ hours. It's exhausting. You have to be able to let your mind wander when you're walking between shots or generally waiting. Then you need to be able to narrow your focus and get into the zone when you're starting your pre-shot routine. Easier said than done, but a great practice.
Go Gen! All the best in '22🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆!!
Stay strong 💪
Im with you on slow play…I dont even play comp as dont have the patience for someone to do 3 laps of the green for putt and then miss 17 out of 18 times..
No job is perfect but you are maturing and getting to travel the world with your dad….
Hey Gen, for real. What this video shows is that you are lacking the mental skills that it takes to make a living of prize money. They are skills so they can be learned just like the physical skills. It shows that you don't have reliable processes in place, for the ever changing variables of playing golf. Everything that you mention in this video as affecting your performance it is your responsibility do develop a process in order to prevent these things from inhibiting your performance. PROCESS, PROCESS, PROCESS! Some examples of processes you could have. 1) playing partners: do not care what they do, so long as they don't threaten physical safety or so something that affects concentration from the moment that you start your pre shot routine, up to when you hit the ball. If they talk to you during the round give a short polite and respectful response, and nothing more, other than that don't pay attention, it has nothing to do with your performance. 2) rules officials and rulings, if a thought comes into your mind, that any form of action or lack of action on your part may result in a penalty stroke, request to speak to a rules official immediately, clarify any concerns in full, and clarify what your options are, or changes you need to make to avoid a penalty stroke, if not satisfied with the rules officials response, ask to speak to a more senior rules official, if I you are thinking about a rules situation, do not start a future pre shot routine until the rules matter you are thinking about is resolved to your satisfaction. Always be 100% confident about where you stand with the rules always. 3) there is no fast or slow play, there is only a process that is completed from the time you arrive at the ball, to the time you walk away from where you hit your shot, to the next shot. What happens when walking between shots does not matter at all. 4) Be prepared to accept all outcomes. Before you play or hit any shot, whilst you should identify your desired outcome, and how you intent to get it, be prepared to accept all possible outcomes. That includes shooting 80, missing cuts, being disqualified etc. these are the inherent risks of playing the game and you accept them, and focus on the desired outcomes, if these undesirable things happen, do not allow that to affect how you see yourself, your value as a person, or the meaning of the process and the journey that you are on. if you are going to let your self esteem be affected by outcome, you need to quit golf now, because cannot succeed. 5) after any desired or undesired outcome, reflect, on anything information received in that outcome, that may be useful to future situations, reflect on if it was a mental error, physical error. 6) don't think about what the meaning of any outcomes means in relation to the past or future of your life – it has no meaning, and nothing to do with your value as a person. what does have meaning is your ability to have a process for dealing with the challenges, and ensuring that the process is executed as well as possible. You got to develop a full and detailed process for everything that happens in the lead up to a tournament and during the tournament. Also, you need to ensure, that the people that you allow to influence you during this are fully focused and understanding of the same process, and you need to remove all activities from your life that distract from the optimal process. for real
To win, you’ve got to adapt to playing well under many different and challenging conditions. That includes playing with annoying people. 💪🏻
Speaking for myself, I appreciate your honesty about tour life and specifically your golf game. Golf is HARD lol. I was watching the LPGA Open this weekend and the girl who finished 2nd won over $1M. According to one of the tv commentators, she admitted that the first time she made a decent amount of money from a purse it relieved all kinds of stress about traveling, entering tournaments and bills in general. I can't imagine all that being piled on top of the necessity of playing mistake free golf to earn a living. I believe your time is coming. You're a proven winner and you work so hard, it's just a matter of time. Go be great. The Gen Army is cheering you on!
Don't be too hard on yourself. Your time will come when you least expect it. As you said, if you become too focussed on the score you can place to much pressure on yourself. Getting into the zone – and reaping the rewards of that will see it happen more frequently. This is a perspective of the tour that we the viewers do not see and it is not all about Tiger woods waving to fans on the 18th.. there are many out there doing what they love to do but who do not have the advantages of the more successful golfers. I think you are an amazing golfer.. your going to have your day in the sun young lady.. just enjoy yourself.
You changed your icon! It looks cool. Any chance you could post a BIGGER picture of it? For some of your older friends?
All the best! 🙏🙏🙏
Gen it takes an extra badass to share the ups and the downs……keep on kicking ass!
I am looking forward to see you live at the German Masters
