With the help of Mac Boucher playing the role of right handed golfer, we review the new 2022 Sub 70 659 CB forged irons for looks, feel, performance, and value.

For this test we are also using the Bridgestone Tour B XS golf ball to help Mac based on his lower spin performance from his right handed swing delivery.

The specs for the clubs tested were the Sub 70 659 CBs with Nippon Modus 105 Stiff Flex and Lamkin Crossline 360.

  1. Hi Ian, I am going to Fort Laulerdale for vacation, are there any club fitters you trust there? If so who? I am badly in need of new clubs.

  2. How would you recommend getting fit for a DTC club set? The online tool I feel is only so good.

  3. I owned a set of 639 CB's and loved everything about them except for the durability. The steel that they use is super soft. So soft, that I got a few pings on the faces just by catching stray grains of sand in between the ball and face. Sub 70 customer service is absolutely amazing, though. Can't compliment them enough.

  4. When I see the testing for DTC products that you have done with the irons for Haywood and Sub 70, I really don't know why someone would pay the extra 800-1000 for an OEM especially considering the market these player cavity irons are made for. How much more are you really going to gain playing a t100? Most of these companies offer a variety of shaft options and even at that I know you can even just purchase the heads if you wanted to and buy your own shafts and build them to how you like. My next set of irons will not be an OEM, they will come from DTC. The customer service at these companies are usually very good as well. You could use the extra money towards fitting another area of your bag, a golf trip, membership etc..

  5. Is that a literal copy of a srixon 785 or 765? It looks like something I’ve seen before just can’t put my finger on it.

  6. I was really close to going with sub70 irons. What held me back was me being a first-time new club buyer and I didn't have a good sense of what my swing needed and really wanted the fitting experience. I decided to get fit by my local shop. I don't regret it but the guys I dealt with at sub70 were kind, straight up, and definitely helped me out to the maximum they could within the constraints of DTC business model!

  7. Can we take a second out to take note of the Legend the Mac Is? His Righty swing is so smooth and natural.

The clubs look amazing IMO. They look fantastic and with the standard lofts it appears to be an amazing deal.
