Hey! If you want to come to the live podcast in London get tickets here: https://sjm.lnk.to/TPSRick
How don't you both have Cam Smith in your predictions after his latest form?
Cam Smith will win the Masters, becoming the second Australian to do so
The past masters champions are not taking somebodies spot in the field , there is only around 90 players total as compared to 154 in a regular tour stop and there are only so many limited ways to qualify for the Masters with one being former champs ,I think this is one of the special aspects that make the Masters what it is. I also believe having the past champions playing is not only a reward for winning but also for the patrons on the grounds ( not so much for TV ) to see some of the legends of the game up close.
I’ve experienced the ageism myself, I’m 47 and there’s a lot of 20-30 year olds that are on a lot more money than me, yet that incident mine was £200 dearer….🤬
Sorry Gents, British Open IS NOT COMPARABLE to The Masters…. US Open is more prestigious in US than British Open.
Tiger thanked Nike for the shoes hes wearing this week helping with stability at the Players news conference today.
And screw that, i played, and won, a tourney last summer where we tee'd off at 9 and the dinner was at 4, we didnt even know the winner till the next day. if you cant do a shotgun start that rule is shit about being present at end! And that 40 or younger is BS and actually illegal in the USA just like ladies nights are, but they still do it, im tussling with causing a stink at my local club as its $900 for 40yrs or younger and $2000 for 41 and over. I can pay everytime i play and it would be cheaper then 2k.
Tiger isn't super human. He just works hard as fuck and is super determined.
So because tiger said he could win that makes it immediately true?He also said he was gonna honor his wife till death sets them apart..Bryson said Augusta was a par 67 look at how that went
To assume that someone who was out of the game for over a year in recovery has a chance is disrespectful as fuck to the other guys, just shows how much you guys watch golf, not picking cam Smith, scheffler, morikawa as favourites. About LEGENDS of the game not playing when they are one of the fifty something people ever to win a green jacket, when they get paid and are taking no one's spot let's see if that's even a talking point in a couple years when it's tiger's turn. I honestly don't even know why I watch this shit, it's like listening to my mother talk about car engines. At least do your homework,I might start a cooking podcast, screw it
Rick you should’ve picked Brian Harman!!!!
LOL, the mini golf story about the gold ball appearing out of the hole. Guy sounded like Jasper Carrott adding the humour to the story. 👍🏼👏👏👏
Stop going on about tiger woods like a couple of school girls. He won’t give a monkey’s about anything your saying, he’s got the personality of a stone tiger only cares about tiger, The Open in the number one major, you have to qualify for The Open, the masters in invitational so should not be a major . 2013 masters tiger should have been disqualified for not counting a 2shot. Penalty, he signed for a lower score than he had, but because it was tiger woods the us pga let him off, if he had the integrity of most honest golfers he should have withdrawn from the tournament.
Surprised Cameron Smith not one of the top 3 picks.
Winners:
In the last 12 years, 9 of the winners had at least one top 10 finish in their 3 tournaments before the Masters
If you go back to 2001 only: Weir, Zac Johnson, Immelman, Cabrera, Schwartzel & Garcia are winners without a top 10 finish in any of their last 3 competitions. (Garcia finished 12th in his last competition before the Masters)
Only 5 players since 1997 have missed a cut in their last three events played and gone on to win.
Cabrera, Immelman, Weir, Olzabal, O'Meara. Cabrera missed his last two cuts and went on to win.
In the last 10 years the winner has been inside the top 25 the week before the competition
In the last 16 years the only winners outside the top 25 have been: Johnson (56), Immelman (29), Cabrera (69), Schwartzel (29)
You could reduce that down further and say the only winners outside the top 30 in the past 16 years were Johnson and Cabrera.
Based on that I'd give excellent chances to: Scheffler, Smith, Thomas, Johnson.
Good outside chances: Berger, Horshel, Casey.
Younger players don’t earn as much so unless you want to stay for old men you have to give membership options
As the Masters is run by the Augusta National Golf Club, it is they who decide who can play. How long past champions can play is therefore up to them. They're not taking anyone's "spots". Great podcast BTW – keep up the good work!
HI rick and guy I KNOW WHY YOU'VE NOT SOLD OUT IN OF PODCAST TICKETS? its this simple! LONDON! why would you hold it there???? your are based in the perfect place the middle of england? where the most of the uk can get to you with in a hour or so? you you've decided to hold it in (MIDDLE) LONDON at the bottom end of england? the most EXPENSIVE PLACE TO GO and most likely way to far for the average joe? i live crewe and could go manchester? is a hour drive away at most? you have LIVERPOOL,SHIFFIELD, LEEDS,CHESTER, YORK, BLACKPOOL and dozoens all close with in a hour drive. so they can make a afternoon of it? drive there with in a hour and go back home same night? NOW FOR ANY OF THESE PEOPLE TO GO LONDON? for me its its a 160 miles! thats half a day drive? maybe longer depending on london traffic? and there surcharge for driving into london, never mind fuel costs then packing costs there a back? if you can find where to park also? most people won't want to drive back same day after a big drive? so will have stay over? there at least another £200 and then you've got to spend at least half the day driving back? its a price of a small get away not only that its using a day or 2 up? thats why me and my friends are not going? can't afford it Rick? next time hold it near manchester where it will be cheap for everyone to get to and it will only take up a evening? this is not a dig at you guys love you to bits and i'm nearly in the club house just a observation and the reason i know why me and my friends can't go and won't to go? 🙁
Should of instantly thought of Bob MacIntyre when looking for a lefty.
Did you Boys have too much sunlight this week?
Looking good.
leave Sandy alone. He EARNT the right to play for as long as he wants. its tradition to honour previous winners with the right to play. If he wants to, then let him. You've just made me put an each bet on him this year. Hope he proves you wrong. what about Vijay, what about Larry Mize.
Enjoyable podcast, a lot of topic variety. Loved the banter on the mini golf story 🤣👏
Bob MacIntyre for the left hander pick. Scotland's next Major winner since you were talking about Sandy Lyle
Rick …your making money from using Tigers name…I'm not even going to watch you pair of clappers. He can take as much time as he likes bud…ps give your Deputy in the hoody a shaver…you said it yourself…waste of space…
Why the hate for Sandy Lyle?? Why do Rick and Guy not have an issue with, Fred couples, Langer, Larry Mize? They’re all roughly the same age as each other but Lyle is who they take issue with. Is it something to do with his nationality maybe? I’d hope not.
I understand that the returning players (old winners) receive money for showing up even if they do not play in the actual tournament. I think this is one motivation to play in the par 3 tournament. I am pretty sure this is correct but someone can correct me if I am wrong.
Sandy’s win inspired me to take up the game. He’s earned the right to play for as long as he likes.
Rick, when do you think there will be a women's Masters?
Don't have a problem with Sandy Lyle playing. I think he will know when it is time to hang it up. He did earn the right to play after all.
For me the Masters is the official start of the golf season
I’m working on getting into the clubhouse. I started listening later on so I working on catching up. I’ve been listening to 2-3 episodes every time I’m playing golf.
As 28 y/o member at a club which offers memberships at lower prices for members under 30, I greatly appreciate that discount. You mentioned a couple of the big reasons for why clubs might do this, but one of the big ones is that old members tend to play golf with their established friends within the club. Young adults want to play golf with their existing social circle. This means that young adults who get hooked are looking to hand their cheap box sets off to friends and get them hooked on golf as well.
The course near me has 4 different levels of membership, Junior (up to 18), College (with valid ID), Regular, And Senior (60+). In comparison to the regular yearly price, so say age 22-59, the junior price is $1575 cheaper, college is $850 cheaper, and Senior is $200 cheaper. I can understand the kerfuffle with younger people paying substantially less but that just seems the price to grow the sport to any degree. Get the kids hooked while they're young in the hopes that they'll come back and pay for a membership when they're older.
Very simple if you have won yes WON the masters you should have lifelong exemption to play. The history for not only competitors but for the patrons seeing players from years gone by teeing it up with the best of today .. classic just pure quality from start to finish. It's things like this that make The Masters the greatest Major even better than The Open. Ask any player if you could win just one Major what would it be and the vast majority would say The Masters.
Tiger can't win, simple as that!!!
Thanks for the shoutout gents, completely caught me off guard 😂😂😂
From 1984-1999 Arnold Palmer missed 15 consecutive cuts at the masters and I’m sure NOBODY complained that he was still playing. Sandy Lyle earned his lifetime exemption, and damnit if he wants to play he can. It’s not taking away from anyone. There are no alternates for the masters.
As crazy as it sounds to say now, the only person that could ever have the gravity that Tiger does, will be his son Charlie. If Charlie keeps going at the rate he’s at he could be even better than Tiger.
Cantlay for the win!
Wished Richard bland had a chance to play
I belong to a military club in Canada. When I first played there 30 years ago they had 18 different categories of waiting lists for potential members. There are two good 18-hole courses and a membership capped at 1,500 total for all categories, including Juniors. Due to an aging membership and increased competition from new courses the waiting lists disappeared about 8 years ago. As even more old cackers fell over, one did not have to be ex-military or even a Federal employee to apply. We went to the Intermediate approach for new members. $750 CAD for ages 30-35, $600 for ages 25-30, with the caveat that Intermediates could only play for 2 years at the reduced rates before deciding to move up to full membership and some tee times were restricted to full members. The Intermediate method worked as the membership roster is, once again, full with a small waiting list. The only complaints I've heard is that the new Intermediates tend to be a younger crowd that have never belonged to a club and many have had to be 'educated' on etiquette, raking bunkers, replacing divots and repairing ball marks. Fortunately, there are enough ex-military members still around who are fully prepared and qualified to deliver the remedial training as required, often from 150 yards away! In other good news, our club opens again on April 25th after another interminable Canadian winter!
On Tiger's shoes; since the accident I think he's probably been through every shoe manufacturer and style until he's found one that gets him round the course comfortably. Given all that has happened Nike would be mad to try and force him to wear their shoes only for him to not make it round the course because they don't work for him on that given day. Also, are Nike really in a position to make marketing demands with Tiger? With top athletes like him, LeBron and CR7, they give them the apparel and the money and say thanks.
is it just me or does the saturation look too high on this video? like the reds are FAR too red
Rick can you answer next episode how y’all felt about the Dude Perfect at Augusta?
Quick question. I have a driver that is 20 years old, but is now classed as being as being illegal due to a springy face and over sized in cc. How would it compare now against the latest drivers on the market? I don't play golf anymore so I have not been able to test the latest equipment. Do you want to try it?
Great podcast and I too wear FootJoy shoes!
I believe that when Tiger first started he was with Titleist/Acushnet, hence the mix of Titleist and Cobra, so he has some history with Footjoy. There has been something about using metal spikes and additional stability to stop any slipping. Also surprised that Nike didn't create a custom Tiger shoe!
Nooooo I am sorry . . . nothing has been said about The Masters being a unique contest . . . it is a Major . . . AND the most exclusive of Clubs. The beauty is that it is different ! ! Always the same course . . . AND all past Champions have a lifetime exemption ! ! Let them be . . . they have earned it . . . let them reap what they have sown. It is NOT The Open . . . it is not better . . . BUT it is unique. We normal humans cannot get to play the course at any time. Good luck Sandy and all you other past Champions . . . please keep going. I wish I could get round with a score under 100 or indeed with any score . . . BUT Rick has given up giving lessons. Nuff said ! !
Great channel guys.
I wonder if you might comment on the 1st round Masters, 6th hole "putt", by Lee Westwood. He took no backswing and just pushed the ball into the hole. More and more pros do this and they don't seem to know or the officials know that it's an ILLEGAL stroke!
