The posture you adopt in your golf setup is determined by your knee flex, your hips and spine angles. Follow these golf tips to make sure you position your body in a proper posture position that will allow you to get the most out of your golf swing and golf shots.
A big difference between PGA golfers and amateur or beginner golfers can be seen through the way they address the ball and their posture. While professional golfers take great care in adopting a proper golf posture, beginners rarely think about posture at all, resulting in a rounded back (slouching back) and knee flex that is way too severe. Confirm that you are positioned properly through these checkpoints.
As far as your knees are concerned, you will want your knees to be engaged in slight knee flex. Locked knees at address, or knees that are way too bent result in no power being delivered to the golf ball. It also makes it difficult to hit the ball reliably well.
You will also want to push your hips back slightly, which will help tilt your spine angle forward and down. Ideally, you will want that back to be straight but we realize not all golfers can adopt the perfect straight back posture seen in professional golfers. The idea here is to be in an active, athletic position that will promote and allow a good golf swing and good golf shots.
If you feel like your back is too rounded and notice that your head moves forward and away from the shoulders, follow this posture drill. Stand up and place your club against your belly button and chest. See if you can bring your nose forward (or back) in a way that it touches the club. Now tilt your upper body forward, making sure that your belly button, chest and nose all remain in contact with the club. This drill sets you in a good spine angle position, with your head aligned with the rest of your upper body.
