DUNMORE JUNIOR CIERA TOOMEY IS AMONG THE MOST HEAVILY-RECRUITED GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY.
ALTHOUGH SHE STILL HAS 2 MORE YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL — TOOMEY HAS RECEIVED 24 DIVISION 1 OFFERS — THE LATEST OF WHICH IS FROM THE MOST DECORATED PROGRAM IN WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL HISTORY.

ON TUESDAY, THE UCONN HUSKIES OFFERED DUNMORE STAR, CIERA TOOMEY, A FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO PLAY BASKETBALL. THAT’S JUST ONE OF MANY OFFERS FOR THE JUNIOR, WHO HAS BEEN PLAYING FOR TWO TEAMS THIS SUMMER.

“I can’t lie, I don’t think a lot of it has sunk in. It’s still feels kind of surreal. I mean, between yesterday, getting the offer from UCONN, it was kind of the first time I was like, wow, this is real.”

UCONN HEAD COACH, GENO AURIEMMA, IS AN ELEVEN-TIME NATIONAL CHAMPION.. SO WHAT’S THE CONVERSATION LIKE WHEN A COLLEGE BASKETBALL LEGEND OFFERS YOU A SCHOLARSHIP?

“We talked about golf, we kind of just talked about a bunch of things. He was at our tournament, our last one in Spooky Nook. So, kind of just going over what he saw there and what he likes about my game, and the future he can see me with UCONN.”

TOOMEY BELIEVES THIS SUMMER HAS BEEN KEY FOR HER DEVELOPMENT.. THE N-E-P-A ELITE TEAM SHE PLAYS ON TRAVELED TO PLACES SUCH AS TEXAS AND ATLANTIC CITY, FINISHING AMONG THE TOP TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY IN MOST TOURNAMENTS.

“My confidence has definitely gone up a little bit. Just seeing how I do against the higher levels of competiion, and just consistency, and just working on my game in the offseason.”

AND, HER MOTHER WAS A STAR PLAYER AT FRANKLIN & MARSHALL, AND SERVES AS AN ASSISTANT FOR THE DUNMORE LADY BUCKS.. THAT CERTAINLY MAKES THINGS EASIER.

“I’m blessed, my mom is a coach, so they can talk to her, which takes a lot of pressure off of me. So, I haven’t really been overwhelmed, and I feel like I can’t get overwhelmed because it’s all positive stuff. So, it’s been a lot, but I’m thankful for it.”

“I think we just try to focus on the day, and what’s going on that day. If we have a game, if we don’t. If she has coaches to talk to… She’s just a normal kid, we just try to keep things like every day, like, she still has to clean her room and she still has to do the laundry, you know.”

AS FOR WHEN TOOMEY WILL MAKE HER DECISION AS TO WHERE TO PLAY COLLEGE BASKETBALL?

“I don’t want to stress her in any way to make a decision because it’s a big one. It’s a big one. And, I want it to be hers, I don’t want it to be mine, I don’t want it to be her aunt’s, or anyone.”
