It’s important to pay close attention to etiquette on the golf course. Everyone shares these meticulously crafted environments and you need to do your part to help maintain them.
You may think that it’s the job of the course to keep the greens. So why should you take over that function? Well, if the ball marks are not repaired properly, they could actually cause the grass to die. The course staff is responsible for the overall maintenance of the course, but it’s golf etiquette for golfers to help fix ball marks as they play through.
HOW TO REPAIR A BALL MARK
All you need for this is a basic divot tool, or, if you’re in a pinch, a golf tee. Here are the steps:
• Start by sticking the divot tool into the ground behind the ball mark at about a 45-degree angle.
• Gently pull the top of the tool toward the center of the divot.
• Repeat this technique around the mark until only a hint of it remains. You should only need to lift about three or four times.
• Pat that spot with your putter until it’s nice and flat.
