On the way home from Adelaide to Newcastle, Lloyd, Big Slappi and the Chog stopped in to play Manangatang golf club on the Pinaroo Sand belt. 400km from Adelaide, 430km from Melbourne and over 1000km from Sydney, Manangatang is an 18 Hole sand scrape golf course contained largely within a racetrack, and some holes extending into the bush beyond.
Greeted with 4 degree celsius temps and a fog limiting visibility to as low as 50m in some points during the match, Steve and Lloyd opted to play a straight up matchplay game, with Lloyd opting to sub out the modern woods for a half set of persimmons and some irons.
If you’re ever driving through Manangatang on the Mallee Hwy and want to kill some time, I would strongly recommend. Especially if you haven’t played sand scrape greens before it is certainly an experience you wouldn’t want to miss.
