While working through the downswing, our hips and pelvis will sometimes shift into the direction of the golf ball rather than maneuvering around our lower body. This causes our chest to veer further from the ground and straightens our arms out.
As our hips come in and head raises up, players will usually notice their back foot lift off of the turf rather than leveraging the ground and rotating around the lower body. Such early extension movements drastically reduce a player’s ability to control the golf club while also diminishing the overall distance of the shot.
While causing early extension, our hands and arms will also become stuck behind the body during downswings. Getting stuck most often refers to early extension. Extending early causes players to either hook the ball to the left or push block their shots to the right. Either of these missed shots are a direct result of early extension being present in the swing.
